12 Steps of Overeaters Anonymous
singingintherain replied to Alex Brecher's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Anyone know of any OA meetings on the phone 'bridge' which are geared to those with WL surgery? -
Well last night I started the mushies stage and for dinner had some diced turkey and 'smashed' potato (no milk). I find that it goes down very well. The swelling in my stomach from the Band being sutured onto it is starting to go down, so the opening is widening. Soon there will be hardly any restriction until I get a first fill and I have to be VERY careful not to overeat and see how much I can 'pack away in there' w/o it coming back up...dread the thought! As I type I am having a breakfast of peppered scrambled eggs with some diced turkey and it is delicious after broth and glucerna shakes and popsicles for 14 days. I think this stage is going to be the toughest because of the lack of restriction (pre-first fill) and the temptation to eat everything . I am counting my grams of protein and aiming for 60 grams a day and also staying between 1000-1200 calories.

You made it! I agree that rest is difficult in the hospital..they want to monitor you and they are constantly in and out. But you seem to be breezing right along afterward..and going to the shopping center, to boot! Great recovery! You are fortunate to have family members to help out. -

Horrid diarreah and gas for the past few hours. I thought the gas was all gone and done with...SURPRISE! Gas X for supper. Today I only managed to have 2 shakes , 1 broth and 1 popsicle and a couple sips of Fuze. Not a good day at all inwardly. Outwardly, the 'stab wounds' are healing up fine. -

Hi all! I lose papers and so I posted a thread with the schedule of the meetings here: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f42/brigham-faulkner-lb-support-calendar-2009-a-90766/ Unless there was a rumor of a cancellation or schedule change, the Faulkner meeting is Mon. Am I under the correct understanding that there are no meetings in the Summer until October? I plan to attend giving I have energy by the end of the day. Fatigue is winning! Drinking just about all my protein, but tired, tired, tired. I just ironed a shirt and thought I was going to have to go sit down and rest..that's ridiculous! Incisions and 'stab wounds' are healing and itching up a storm! Took off all the yucky bandages and washed with Hibiclens and put on some thin tegaderm covering for surgical wounds. -
Mayo Banditos / Friday Weigh In !!!!

Pre Band weight 247 Band weight 237 Present weight 230 Not spectacular for 1 week, but I'm headin' in the right direction. -
I have to crush some very bitter pills, and it seems that none of the liquids will masque the bitterness. Jello did the trick, but jello gets stuck in my pipe..no matter how slow I go. I had a jug of pure carrot juice in the fridge because I felt I needed a vegetable. Well, I tried about 1/4 cup of the carrot juice and it did the trick...the bitterness was not as predominant as in the other liquids and I was able to take the crushed meds much better! FWIW

I am glad that you could use the info! Bloated..no. Sore..... YES and I tire very easily. Did a very slow treadmil walk today and tired at 10 min. The other day I went to the market and drugstore and felt I had more energy. So...go figure. The body knows, I guess. Hey...after all, I am no spring chicken by any means!

Crushing Bitter Pills/ good suggestion
singingintherain replied to singingintherain's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't fill the glass. I mix it in a small amount at the bottom and then have a 'chaser'. LOL -
Here's the Nutritional Guidlines from the facility I attend. I also had an appt with the in-house nutritionist. Perhaps it will help The menu for the stages are about 1/4 down the page. Lap Band Postoperative Diet

I am supposed to drink clear liquids, but including 5 shakes for the protein.Usually I can only do 4. I Sip Crystal Light and Kellogg protein water, have 2 cups of broth and 2 popsicles.1/4 cup of carrot juice for the meds. No way am I getting enough water, but that will get better. If you think you are dehydrated, then go get som Sugar Free Popsicles. Pedialite has some freeze pops also which have stuff to keep kids hydrated when they are sick. They aren't as sweet as the Popsicle brand, though...they are in the Baby aisle.

I was big time gassy on Slim Fast, Carnation, and others because of the large soy content. Also I am Lactose Intol. My nutritionist suggested Glucerna which only has 200 cal, loaded with Protein and does not give me gas at all. The chocolate ones are very flavorful. You can get them in the supermarket near the Slimfast stuff. Mine is in the cosmetics, health and beauty aisle. I am not diabetic, but the nutrition value is tops for bariatric patients. Glucerna - Products I hear of so many complaining about hair loss accompanying their weight loss because of insufficient protein. So once a day I add a measure of unjury protein powder(the unflavored) to my Glucerna as a precaution. I intend to up it to 2 scoops later on. UNJURY Medical Quality whey Protein Isolate. Great Tasting Whey Protein supplements for Everyday Health! High Protein and High Quality. /reg/protein_shake_drink_recipes.shtml

I had my surgery on the 28th. I just have some very sore incisions...I wouldn't call it pain, but an uncomfortable soreness because they are at beltline and bra line and can't heal right. since surgery I have lost 7 lbs also, but am waiting until my first post-op visit before recording it on my tracker. This morning I woke up kind of woozy. Put off going to the garage to get an oil change and was glad I did because the Milk Of Mag from a week ago worked this morning as it did yesterday also. I feel much better now.

What food stage are you at? What are you eating?
singingintherain replied to Carriedaway78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am in pain..although I know it won;t last long. I decided to try jello again to see if it would disguise the bitterness of my crushed meds. The jello is a great disguise, but it 'stuck' and is just sitting there, even though I took it slow. I think I will stay away from jello from now on. What do you use to disguise the bitterness of your crushed meds, ...those who take them.?? -
Mine are..not all, though. It is from the dried blood in mine. My steristrips started falling off last night. I went to the store and got some waterproof bandages..cushy ones for the belt and bra line. I am putting bacitracin on them after showering and washing them with hibiclens. At the end of the day, they hurt and are sore.

That is fantastic..and you should be proud! I bet you are feeling real good in self esteem right now...and rightly so! I woke up today to find 3 steri strips completely off. I am on my way to the CVS to get some kind of covering because they get irritated by bra band and waist bands . AND......I noticed that I have a sixth hole...I have 2 on either side of my belly button and 3 up higher..one of which on the upper right is longer (and more sinister looking)than the others. I wonder why I have 6 ?. Perhaps one is a needle puncture, I dunno,(I don't think so though because it had a steri strip) but the word STUDENT always pops into my mind . -

Go for it! 1 of those oyster crackers will seem as sumptuous as a whole loaf of homemade bread at this stage of the game. Yay!
