I am in the process of going through the initial steps. I've been to a meeting, had the first consultation and have an appt. with the dietitian. I have to lose a few pounds first. Waiting to hear if my insurance covers this. If the stars are aligned it looks like late spring, early summer. My step sister is also going through the process and a good friend had it done late last year. There seem to be a lot of people getting this done at Cheshire Medical, we should all band together. (pun intended!)

Cheshire Medical Center Banders out there?
whip22 replied to whip22's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't gone to any, I travel for my job and the times don't work for me. One of my good friends as well as my step sister also have had the surgery so we exchange notes and check up on each other quite a bit. Our own little support group! I've had two fills, it was interesting when I got the second one, definitely have to pay attention to what I am eating. SLOWLY is the new way for me. -

JaffreyChick and urs9999: Congrats to both of you. I had mine June 2nd, down 75 total since January, 24 since the surgery. On my second fill. Thinking I may need another one soon, I have an appt with Hima this week for my 3 month check up so we'll see how it goes there. Everyone feeling OK? -

Good luck JaffreyChick. I have a good friend that had the surgery, as well as my step sister. I find talking to them helps a lot. We've been through it together. I had Dr. Dupuis. Can't say enough good things about him. Keep us posted on how you do! -
When you mentioned the co-worker, I thought of what happened to me today. I was banded on 6/2 and was out of work for a week. I travel for my job, so the locations I cover only see me once a week or two weeks. So today I visit one of the more remote locations that is about 2 hours from my home. I get there, and one of the ladies there came up to me and gave me a big ole bear hug and told me how much she missed me and how proud she was of me. I was so pleased to get this reaction, it was so refreshing. It ALSO reminded me of a dear friend that had the gastric bypass about 8 years ago. She hardly told anyone she had the surgery because she thought she was a failure. I told her I thought it was just the opposite, that she took charge of her destiny and made a change, which was courageous and brave. I was thinking about the surgery back then, but knew gastric bypass wasn't for me. It just took 8 years for me to find the right place and right time to do it for me. It's only been 20 days, but so far, I have NO regrets.

Was banded on Tuesday. Today I feel pretty good. I am having trouble getting the protein in and the water. I have no appetite at all, but am making myself drink the protein drinks just to keep the energy level up. A lot of burping, still gassy. Taking a lot of walks. I think my age has something to do with it. At 48, I'm not bouncing back as quickly as I would like. Still really tired. No pain meds though for two days now. Sore at the port site and it burns a little when I get up and down. Jan. 2009 Initial consult 385 lbs. April 2009 Surgeon consult - 349 lbs. May 2009 Pre-op Opti-fast - 343 lbs. Surgery June 2nd – 335 lbs.

I started my pre-op opti-fast yesterday. My step sister had her surgery yesterday and feels fine. Some soreness, but nothing she can't tolerate. I can't wait until it's my turn! Jan. 09 385 lbs May.09 341 lbs. Surgery Date JUNE 2nd!!!

Cheshire Medical Center Banders out there?

nlausier - I hope the surgery went well. I just finished my visits with the dietician. To all -I lost 33 of the 35 pounds, so she is putting me through to the next step. The psychological screening. Once that is done. I meet with the surgeon. It sounds like they are doing more surgeries now, they have a lot more in the program. I found out my insurance covers it, $250 deductable, so I am thrilled with that. At first I thought I would have to be footing it. -

My appt was with Pam. I got measured, weighed and had a quick exam. We went over the papers I had sent in, she asked some questions about my history. It was painless! I have been seeing the dietitian since January. I have to lose 35 pounds, and have 10 left to go. Once that is done, on to the next step. Meeting with the psychologist!
