Hi. I am new to this site. I was banded 10-3-08, had 1 fill on Nov. 17. Not much wt loss yet but still hopeful. I know I need another fill, but not scheduled until Feb. 4. I live in Liberty, MO ( just north of Kansas City, MO). I was banded in Juarez, MX by Dr. Rodriguez. It was a beautiful facility and very attentive and nice staff. Anyone else banded there??

My first fill w/ Dr. Malley was $250. After that it is $100 per fill visit. The Tall Grass facility in Topeka that I went to first time cost $250 first trip and $150 thereafter. The problem there was I never felt a difference..so went to Dr Malley as he was closer to me anyway. They could not find the 1cc that Topeka supposedly put in! Never went back to Topeka.

Hi there! Yes, I went first time to Topeka. Didn't like them so by the time I needed 2nd fill I got in w/ Dr. Malley. He added another Dr. to take on patients that did not get procedure done with them. I haven't lost very well though. I need to get more fills probably. I lost a friend that had procedure done same day as me and it scared me considerable. Anyway, I've lost around 25 lbs...better than gaining. Take care. BTW, I'm back into selling real estate and am w/ Reece & Nichols, so if you know anyone wanting to buy or sell....pls have them call me. Thanks. Hi. I'm sorry I don't know the attorney's name that is handling the malpractice suit on behalf of my friend as she is in Florida and I live in Missouri. I'll bet you can find a good attorney by googleing that type of attorney in your area. Then possibly checking your county government offices for current litigation. not sure of the website there for such things, but it's probable that just asking someone at the courthouse would know their website and maybe even have some suggestions as to names of attorneys that have built a reputation. Just some ideas as to how to find a good attorney. Good luck in your endeavors and again, sorry for the loss of your daughter.

Dear Cautious, OMG! Just read your post re your daughter's death. I am so sorry! How horrible for you and your family. I did not lose a family member, but a friend to medical Dr. & staff at JFK hospital in W Palm Beach, FLorida. She, Kim, had been banded in Mexico and that is where I met her 10-3-08. She was banded same day as I and her fills were too soon and/or to much. Things went downhill very quickly as within 1 wk of her fill she had to be hospitalized and they punctured a lung during operation to remove band and one thing after another from Thanksgiving Day until her death the morning of New Years Eve. Just can't believe all of the stupid things that happened. We think banding was ok, but fill Dr. in states started the downfall. Her husband has gotten an attorney and they have a malpractice suit going. Doesn't mean much as Kim is gone, but it is scary how some of the so called Drs. can just keep working. I know there is nothing I can say to help you, but pls know that I wish I could.

mizter, where is wlsc? I didn't like Malley either when looking where to have band done, but mostly because the cost for paying myself was too high. I did think at the time that they had a lot of pre stuff they wanted. I don't regret going to Juarez, MX for surgery, just wish either they were closer or fill locations were easier to find. You are lucky to have had ins and sounds like your wife will be doing the same. Good luck to her too.

Hi everyone. This is my first time on this site and have been busy reading everyone's posts. I hope to become part of this 'little coffee group'. I live in Liberty, MO. We are just north a little of Kansas City, MO. Wish we had some of the Arkansas weather that a couple of you have mentioned. Do any of you have an autoimmune disorder? Just wondering as I have been told I have CREST, a form of Scleroderma. They told me not to have the band...but did anyway. So far so good though. I've not lost a lot of wt yet, but only had 1 fill. That was on Nov. 18 1cc. I know it's been a long time but scheduled for another on Feb. 4. Earliest Dr. Malley office could get me in as I had been banded in Mexico they do not get in a hurry to accommodate someone they did not band themselves. Look fwd to getting to know you.

Lap band and autoimmune?
JDM316 replied to pixiestix's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told not to have band by my Rhum as I have limited scleroderma (CREST). My Gastroenterologist also agreed. BUT, my Cardiologist and wellness Drs. were for it and I wanted to do it ....so I did! So far so good. I felt like there were risks just because I was so overweight..and meds needed due to that were risky as well in my mind. Anyway, I think sometimes we have to consider the recommendations by Drs., but it comes down to our opinion and gut feelings. If anyone else with similar health issues has had their band for a while, I'd love to hear fm you. -
Hi Puha...my daughter and I have had the band surgery. She had hers first in July and then she went with me to have mine 10-3-08. We went to Mexico for ours as neither of us had insurance that would cover it. Good luck and it will be fine. We drove fm KC, MO to El Paso and the shuttle picked us up at hotel and took us directly to Angeles Hospital in Juarez. It was a wonderful experience and much, much cheaper than we could have had it done here. Anyway, I think the fills are extremely important and make sure you don't get one too soon or too much. Otherwise, it has gone ok for us. With a smile,:tt2: Judi 10-3-08 banded

Hi Mizter. It's good to hear fm someone so close. How many fills have you had so far? Dr. Malley's office is starting a new section for fills that include people that he did not do the banding. That's been my problem in finding a Dr. to do a fill when I had surgery in Mexico. With a smile, Judi 10-3-08 banded:smile:

I was getting acid in esohogus(?sp) to the point it had ulcerated. This was prior to banding. Banding has actually helped me on this problem ... so far. What I still do though is sleep on a 10" wedge pillow whether or not I feel like acid may be a problem. It has been a godsend for me..maybe it will help those of you with similar problem. I have been able to stop 2 Prevacid prescribed per day!!

Lap Band and Autoimmune disorders (Lupus)
JDM316 replied to EllieMaeClampet's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have an autoimmune disorder of Scleroderma (cousin to Lupus. My Rhumatologist said "no". But I did it anyway. I had acid reflux extremely bad and they were afraid the band would make it worse. I have not had a problem since having the band 10-3-08. I was on 2 Prevacid daily prior to banding. Drs. don't always know best! lol
