Dizzy is not good. Are you using protein shakes or powders mixed in your food?

Caffeine Addiction - But No Coffee?
NewNewMe replied to travel_lightly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had similar caffeine habit before. I cut down to one cup during pre-op diet. I didn't have any day before surgery on clear liquid diet. After the surgery you don't miss it. I am over a month out and tried to drink some yesterday. I only managed 1/2 cup and didn't really enjoy it. Didn't bother trying again today. -
Post-op please help! Packing for hospital

Loose clothes to go home in. A bathrobe, cell charger, and lip balm. Toiletries. I brought a kindle but never used it. Slept most of the time there. -
I did! I had to choke down a ton of pills twice a day for two weeks before surgery.

Congratulations! I had my revision on 4/30/15. Had a band since 11/5/05. I am so glad to be rid of that horrible thing! I see people here looking to get one and I want to scream "don't do it". I get why they want to. You think it is less invasive and reversible. But when my doc told me after surgery how bad my stomach looked from that band and how close I was to my stomach closing off. I was really shocked. I am so glad it is done! So far I love my sleeve!

Thanks all for your replies. I am also glad to hear I am not alone with the fatigue and the stall. My scale finally moved again today after an entire week. I hope it keeps going now.

No, it is really weird. Eating is more of a chore. I am not wanting more even when it tastes good. You feel satisfied and not hungry. I don't know if or how much that will change. Right now food is not calling my name. I can definitely leave it but need to make sure I get my protein in.
-
I am only a couple weeks out but planning ahead. I cannot stomach protein shakes since my surgery. I was wondering what the best protein bar was so I can stock up for when I'm on normal foods.

Nervous about revision. Please advise
NewNewMe replied to gomezk2's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I did my revision two weeks ago today. Had my band since Nov 2005. Doc got in and said it was a mess the worst he had ever seen. He did a great job and fixed a hernia too. I am so glad I did it all at once. I feel great now that the band is out! -
Newbie - How do I choose?
NewNewMe replied to Shakti's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I got a band in 2005. I lost 85lbs and then started getting horrible reflux. They finally took most of the fluid out and I yoyo dieted for 8 years. I finally decided to have it taken out and get the sleeve. The doctor said my stomach was getting pushed up through my band and was close to closing off. I had no idea. I am so glad I decided to do this and didn't end up with emergency surgery. I am now two weeks post op and I can tell you already the sleeve is leagues better than the band. I wish I did this instead of the band back then. I feel so much better with that thing gone! -
I had a band to sleeve revision on 4/30. I started my semi-soft foods today. It is nice to eat something. I can eat 1/4 cup and I'm full. Not that I get hungry anyway. It is just nice to taste something. In a week I can start on soft foods which includes eggs, ground meats, flaky fish, etc. I only had to do 2 days of clear liquids and then did full liquids until today. Odd how different each surgical group is with both pre and post diets. My surgeon told me at my two week check that I absolutely must eat six times a day. I read others are told only 3.

Thanks! That is my plan. My doc told me I absolutely must eat six times a day. I know I will need purse go to items to manage that on crazy days. He said a half of protein bar works. So I want to have some on hand, but want to make sure they are the better ones and not candy bars in disguise.

Thanks all!

2 days to go and SCARED
NewNewMe replied to Vikingsfan8178's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! I had my surgery a week before you. You will be amazed at how good you feel one week out. The hiccups may be from too much going on too quickly. Try taking smaller sips and slowing down a little. -
April 30 surgery update from hospital room.
NewNewMe replied to NewNewMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
One week and one day out. No more pain. Never had nausea. I can't stand protein shakes now. I am using genepro to get my protein in. Mixing it diet juice or creamy soups. I'm not hungry at all. I slept on my side again last night which was heavenly. -

I'm so glad it is done and I'm finally in the other side. Lots of pain. Doc told Steve my band was a mess. Worst one he ever saw! My stomach was getting pull up through it and was close to closing off my stomach. He said I would have been in hospital having it removed soon anyway. So scary! I am so glad I did it this way instead. He said he usually pulls the cutoff part of stomach in one piece. Mine was in pieces. I took first walk at midnight. It went well. Going for upper GI this morning. Then should be able to start fluids. No nausea so far but they have me on meds and patch. -
Fluids and Food ... Questions!
NewNewMe replied to jmshields's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am having a lot of trouble getting fluids in. When I did the upper GI at the hospital the barium got stuck. I had to keep dry swallowing to get it to down. Then he showed me how swollen my stomach was. Right now I am not hungry at all. I'm sure I will be when the swelling goes down. -
April 30 surgery update from hospital room.
NewNewMe replied to NewNewMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm home after two nights in the hospital. Feel like I was severely beaten in my abdomen with a two by four. I get a lot of pain in my shoulders I assume is gas. I am not a bit hungry. Finding it hard to get fluids in. It take 15 min to drink 1-2 oz. I am still sleeping a lot. So very hard to get everything in. -
Thanks for the update! I am glad everything went so well. I already want to eat my mattress just from pre-op diet . Tomorrow is my day I hope I have a similar experience .
-
I start the pre op diet tomorrow. I am really scared. I was not apprehensive at all when I got the band. Why is this so scary? Anyone else having surgery soon?
-
Me too! I am so sick of shakes already!
-
I have not been sleeping. I hope I can get some sleep before Thursday. I am nervous but also anxious to get it done and come out on the other side. Good luck, I'll be thinking about you on Thursday.
-
Glad to hear that. What did you over do?I decided I felt good enough to cook dinner for the kids, so I did. And then I cleaned up after dinner. I was pretty sore after being on my feet and up and down all day. Today is much better. I've been resting while they're all at school. It is hard to rest with little ones around. I'm sure you will a whole lot more energy in the months to come!

Good luck Ann! Let's us know how you do.
