Hey Lisa, I was banded one day after you on the 23rd. I am concerned that you say you are only having grits, pudding and Water. Are you doing any kind of Protein suppliments? I am having the same things as you but also lots of Soup. I also have some protein shots because im supposed to be getting in 80-100g a day. Congrats on the 20 lb loss!!!! :tongue2: Ive lost 13 since surgery and 9 on my pre-op diet so Im up there on the weight loss too. Isnt it wonderfull!!

So I guess it will just be showers for me for a bit. I dont see my Dr. until the 23rd of this month (for my first fill) so let me know when you get the ok for a bath. :tongue2: Ive lost 13 since surgery so it seems like we are pretty close. All last week I could only have about 3 oz at a time. This week ive been doing like 6 so I know my swelling must be going down. I feel like Ive done great so far but now that im eating more I expect to not keep losing like I am. Thats cool that some of you are able to eat applesauce. Thats not on my diet until this Friday along with mushies. When do you all start mushies?

    I've been cheating.

I really like it when people bring inactive threads like this back to being active. Its a great thread with some great responses. I am newly banded and its so hard to stick with the allowed foods but I am trying as hard as I can. These posts give me the motivation to be able to follow my diet exactly as my Dr. says.

Paying for the band (student loans?)

That is a good price. The place I got mine done at was a little cheaper than yours but not much.

Paying for the band (student loans?)

I have some student loans and I am able to use mine for whatever I want. I believe its the same with all student loans. Have you checked into prices for the lapband? I was a self pay and it is pretty pricey. You might would need a few student loans to pay for it. As for a good company to get it from........you should check with the financial aid department at your school. They usually have some good suggestions.

    Anyone getting banded in January

Congrats on your band Jeanangell!! I wish you a quick and speedy recovery. Does anyone know when I can take a bath? I was banded 7 days ago and have already taken off my opsite from my incisions so they now have nothing on them.

    Any side sleepers???

Im the same, cant sleep on anything but my back. I hate it because im a stomach sleeper and find myself rolling over many times a night and waking up in pain. Hopefully its not to much longer until we can all sleep the way we want.

Im very surprised your Dr. gave you pills. My doctor said I would never be able to take pills again. Everything would have to be crushed. Dont worry, the liquid everything is disgusting. The antibiotic and the loratab both made me feel sick. I am very curious how everyones scars look and where they are on your stomach. A few of mine are really smooth and flat, two are raised but look to be healing nicely and one has a little red spreadout below it. If any of you have a picture I would be interested to see. For some reason that makes me feel dirty.........let me see your scars. lol:blushing:

I am still having some tightness in my chest today. I dont feel like im eating a ton but I think I might still be overdoing it. Today I had a Protein shake (which took me about 2 hours to finish), a pudding, about 4 oz of grits, 3 oz of broth with blended chicken, 2 popsicles, 4 oz milk, and some Water. Im addition to the pain in my chest I am also getting pain in my lower right stomach area. Sometimes it feels like liquid swooshing around but sometimes its just a dull pain. Anyone else experiencing that? How do your incisions feel? I keep getting this stinging pulling feeling in mine. I wonder if it is just the healing thats happening. Are you guys going back to work yet? What are you doing during the day?

I was actually just wondering the same thing. I ate some really watered down oatmeal (which is on my post-op diet sheet) and I got this tightness in my chest. I couldnt eat it all but the little I did made me fel like that. Then just a bit ago I had some broth and got the same tightness feeling. It was probably about 3 oz each time. Any one else getting the tightness? If we all are maybe it is a sign of fullness. who knows.

3 ounces sounds about right. I am doing a ton of popsicles so I think that is helping to keep me hydrated. Just a bit ago was the first time I had something that was a bit thicker than water and I do feel full.....well at least thats what I think I feel. I have a major tightness in my chest after eating. If you havent already maybe you should get some popsicles.

I feel the same about the loratab....it makes me sleepy but im not sure its working much for the pain. Sorry to hear about the gas you guys are having. I am only having it a very little bit. My Doctor said that he tries to get all the gas out before closing his patients up so thats probably got alot to do with it. I wonder why all doctors dont do that. I cant wait until tonight when I can have a shake. Broth and water is getting really boring. :w00t:

    Driving after surgery?

Thanks everyone for the advice. You were right, there was no way I could have drove yesterday. I could barely keep my eyes open. My mom ended up coming down to be with me so its all good. Thanks again!!
  18. I was wondering if any of you drove right after surgery? I mean like getting out of the hospital and driving right then. Is this ok? I have a very supportive family most of the time but for some reason I cant get anyone who can come with me for my surgery which is 2 hours away from me. I was thinking that I might stay the night in the town and then drive the 2 hours the next day to get home. Is this an ok idea or just a bad idea?

    Surgery with a cold?

Luckily im not sneezing. I am coughing some though and it hurts:thumbdown:. My doctor actually said it was good to cough so im not worried about it to much.
  20. Well, tomorrow is my big day and just a couple of hours ago I got a sore throat and stuffy nose. I will tell my Dr. in the morning about it but I just wanted to see if anyone else had their surgery when they had a cold. Is it possible they would cancel the surgery? I also wonder if my symptoms could be from weather changes. I live a couple hours away from the town im doing the surgery in and its been in the 20's and 30's at my home and it was in the 70's when I got here.

Pre op shopping list for post op!

Thanks so much for posting this list. My surgery is in 2 days  and there are quite a few items on this list that I forgot. I cant believe I forgot a pillow. I will have a 2 hour car ride the day after surgery so that is something I definitely want.

    Driving after surgery?

Thank you all so much for your replies. Surprisingly everyone agreed that it is a bad idea for me to drive myself. I will make sure I find someone to drive me and if I cant then I will be getting a very expensive bus ride there and back.

    Januray 23rd Banders!!!

My surgery is at 1:00pm on Friday. I dont know what time I need to be at the hospital but I will find out on Thursday at my Pre-op appt. Ive been eating lots of chicken and salad also but am getting sick of it. I have been having the EAS Myoplex Protein Shakes and I kinda like them. Im also having some of the Atkins ones so I dont get sick of just one kind. I have not heard good things about the optima so maybe you should give another kind a try. I have also heard great things about this kind called ZOIC. I know you can get them on Amazon.com but havent seen them anywhere else. I will email you because we should defenitely keep in touch.:huh2:
