  1. I had my surgery right before Thanksgiving and flew out for a week of travel with relatives. The seatbelts were uncomfortable, they were tight across the incisions. I wore loose clothes. I can't imagine wearing business clothes right after, maybe some loose pants. Hopefully you'll get taped and glued like I was and not stapled. That would be more comfortable. Good news though, I did find it easy to get the liquid foods just about anywhere. There are groceries and Wal-marts everywhere so you can get your Protein drinks. Good luck!

Having trouble keeping food down - anyone else?

I had my surgery on 11/17 and I did lots of research prior to my surgery about the surgery. I didn't do any research about the fills. My first fill was on 12/23 and 3 cc's. What a fool, I was so looking forward to food for the first time that week and immediately had to go back on liquids with the fill. I had a hard time keeping my food down for the first couple of weeks. Bad fill, poked 7 times by the doc in his office...that hurt. 2nd fill was 1/19 in the xray department (didn't want poked 7 times again). I got 3cc's but I couldn't keep the water down. The doc removed 1.5 cc's and I kept the water down but haven't kept any food down since. It's been three weeks. I travel with my job M-F so it's hard to go back to see him so I need to know....is having a hard time keeping food down normal and will it subside soon just as it did with my first fill? I swear I'm eating slowly and small bites. I read that drinking mint tea would settle the stomach if I drank it 1/2 hour before a meal...this doesn't work either. I can only keep down protein shakes, liquid, and mushy foods. HELP! I paid for the surgery myself, I'd hate to pay to have the band removed or refit.

Anyone use Obesity Law & Advocacy Center?

My doctor had me use the Obesity Law & Advocacy Center also but they were not helpful in my opinion. I don't know if the breakdown of paperwork was my doctor's office or the Law firm but my insurance denied me twice with their "help". I asked to see what they sent to my insurance company after the first denial and it wasn't all of the information I had given to my doctor's office. I re-submitted my other doctor's recommendations for the surgery, my personal trainer's notes, etc. but they either felt it wasn't important or they didn't put forth the effor to submit them the 2nd time either. The second time I was denied, the insurance company United Health care informed me that I had no more appeals. I ended up paying for the surgery myself. I wish you luck and hopefully your experience will be a better one.

    Intro

Good luck Maybell, you'll be happy you had your surgery. I had mine November 17th and believe me when I say the pre-op diet is the hardest. Your stomach is still regular size and so is your appetite. I took appetite suppressants to get me through as I was starving. Now that I'm banded and have one fill behind me, it is much much easier. Be tough, get to the surgery with your liver shrunken and you will be very happy you did. Best of luck to you and others reading this blog. I'm only a couple of months ahead of you, Once you're banded it will be much much easier.
