2 days post op - feeling terrible
AngelWhisper posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm beginning to really regret getting banded. I was banded on the 6th and woke up in recovery screaming for them to take it out of me. The gas pain I have and have had since the surgery is the most horrible pain I've ever felt. I've been taking gas-x and dilaudid to no avail. It hurts to take a breath in. I also feel like I have to burp sometimes but nothing comes up and instead my stomach hurts something fierce. I can barely lay down at all without intense pain and I can barely walk. My left side where the port is is also incredibly painful whenever I move and breathe. I've called the doctor twice and they just tell me to keep taking gas-x and told me if the pain didn't start to subside today to call back, but I'm not going to bother. My Dr's office will not let you speak to the doctor when you call so there's no point. I'm tempted to go back to the hospital even though I had a horrible experience there as well. I'm really hoping this is normal, I'm terrified there's something wrong. Has this happened to anyone else, and how long did it take for the pain to finally start to go away? -

I saw my Dr. today she squeezed me in. She said what I'm feeling isn't normal and that I'm dehydrated. She admitted me back to the hospital where I'm sitting right now. It's nice though, they have these touch screen tv's where you can browse the internet too. I have to do another barium swallow at some point tonight. BLEH! -

I keep having this weird sensation every few minutes. It kind of feels like I'm about to burp and then my stomach kind of expands and hurts for all of 2 seconds, then stops. That's the best way I know how to explain it and I'm not sure what it is. I still don't really feel any better but I'm happy to know I'm not the only one who had these problems. -

 That's exactly how I'm walking. My back muscles are not pleased by it either. -

I'm still feeling pretty horrific. Although, I have used the bathroom twice today and lost a lot of gas that way which made me feel better for a few minutes. My muscles are really starting to hurt now along with the gas pain. -

Did your doctor tell you can use ibuprofen? It's hard on the stomach, I was told not to use it at all. Just wondering. -

Thanks for the support. I'm really glad I found this website before I went in for surgery. My mom and aunt had the gastric bypass but it's just not the same thing at all. I'm doing fine getting in liquids, I haven't had any trouble with that at all. I guess I'm lucky in that respect. I wish I was as lucky with the gas/muscle pain. -

I'm so glad to read a post like this. I had my surgery 2 days ago and I feel awful and totally regret doing it. Hopefully I can post like this in 2 weeks. Congratulations! -
I am not embarrassed about my surgery! Are you?
AngelWhisper replied to babbs3772's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm not embarrassed that I'm having surgery. However, I wouldnt've told everyone in my family. The only people I told other than my parents were my best friend and my wonderful grandmother who just passed away last month. My mom went ahead and told everyone else after I told her not to do it. Ever since people found out I was having it they badger me about when I'm having it, how much weight do I think I'll lose, how great it's gonna be, how much better my life will be, etc etc etc. I realize they care about me and everything, but I really would like to be left alone. I know for a fact I'm going to have my family all over me about my weight even more now because I won't lose as fast as my mom and aunt did with their gastric bypasses. -
Anyone getting banded in January
AngelWhisper replied to Peanutband's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm also getting banded tomorrow and I feel exactly like you do. I'm so afraid I'm going to fail and end up right back at 300+ lbs. I'm also scared that I'm not going to be able to eat some of the foods I used to eat, and I'm such a picky eater that it's just not gonna be good if I can't eat certain things. I'm also terrified of the complications that can happen. I'm just all around nervous and terrified right now. -
I never thought about listerine before. I'll give it a shot tomorrow. I took a pain pill from a past surgery last night to stop it and it worked until about 5 minutes ago. Not drinking the optifast has made a huge difference in the severity of the pain though.

Ever since I started on optifast for the preop diet I've had intense pain in a tooth that needs a root canal. It NEVER hurt until I had to stop eating food and drinking this horrible concoction. I was wondering if this happened to anyone else and what did you do about it? I can't take motrin anymore because my surgery is too close and orajel isn't working at all. At least tomorrow I don't have to drink it anymore but this is ridiculous!

They pump gas into your abdomen to have room to do the surgery. Then you'll have gas pains for awhile after the surgery until all the gas goes away. That's why they say get Gas-x. They come in dissolving strips to make it easier for you.

lol I'm not banded yet but I'm on the preop liquid diet. The other day I was sitting in my living room and kept smelling the spree candy canes that were sitting in the kitchen. It was ridiculous!

Anyone getting banded in January
AngelWhisper replied to Peanutband's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm having trouble getting excited. I've been trying to get this surgery for over 2 years and things just keep going wrong for me. I had to have 2 other surgeries for a different problem before they would even touch me for lapband. I don't think I'll be excited until they tell me it's been put in and I can leave the hospital. I'm a total pessimist. lol -

I'm on the 6th as well! -
Hey! My name is Stephanie and I'm 21 years old from Maryland. I'm getting banded January 6th with Dr. Wynn in Delaware. The optifast diet is absolutely killing me right now. I know I absolutely have to do this though. I weigh over 300 lbs and have for quite awhile. I've always been overweight. I have a lot of joint pain and can't do things people my age normally do. I also have depression and social anxiety mainly caused by my weight. It's a horrible thing for anyone to have to go through.

Thanks a lot!
