Praying for you to have a speedy recovery Tammy. Want to thank you again for keeping the March thread updated and also for all of your encouragement.

Did all my pre-op testing yesterday. If I would have known about the A.B.G., I might have backed out. I hate, hate, hate needles. I started at 8am with an upper GI and ended the day at 3:20 talking to the anisteologist (sp?). I have to be at the hospital at 6am on March 20 and surgery is for 7:30am. Was told that I would be staying the night, but am fine with that. I did find out that I have a heart murmmer but since they were not concerned with it, I decided that I wouldn't be either. I am doing the "should I do this" thing right now. I know that it is the best thing for me and I know that I will do it. Just very afraid of the "gas" pains. Still don't have the kitchen completed. But should be done by this weekend. The nurse put me on liquids until surgery, UGH!!!!!! Good luck to everyone.

Still working on the kitchen (up till 5:30am this morning putting in tile) and just wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing. Can not believe that I only have 10 days left. March 20 is just around the corner. Congrats to everyone who has been banded and best wishes to those of us who will be. Hope everyone has a speedy recovery.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I just hope I can adjust to sleeping without one day.

If anyone has been about to come off their c-pap, I was just wondering how much of your excess weight did you lose before you didn't need it? And did you have to adjust to the quiet when you no longer needed it? I have had mine for about 5 years and still find that I "fight" it at night, but I can not fall asleep without it.

The best advice is to please call you doctor ASAP. You want to get this undercontrol because vomiting is not somethin to mess around with after banding. Maybe you doctor can get you something to help settle your stomach.

Want to know the best way to lose weight? Remodle your kitchen in less than two weeks. This has been the hardest remodleing job ever. Everytime we remove something, you find something else that needs to be fixed before you can move forward. Case in point, when we removed the old nasty kitchen carpet, we found that part of the subfloor was rotten and had to be replaced. Or when we removed the soffett and all the wires where to short to be pulled up out of the way of the new drywall. We also found out that the dip-s**t that did this house used 2 x 8 for the joists and now because we are putting in tile, we have to scab on 2 x 6's so the floor will not bounce. Funny, we have lived in this crappy house for over 10 years and that same bounce never bothered us before. We knew it was there and should have fixed it a long time ago. Well, we have hopefully learned not to put things off until the last minute. We are almost done as the new cabinets will be here on Friday. We were up until 2 am putting down the hardiboard (each 3 x 5 sheet takes 50 screws) and will hopefully get it done today so we can tile tomorrow. I had to come to work just so I could get caught up with everyone here. I am so flipping tired. I don't recommend doing any remodleing right before surgery, I have been so stressed that it will not get done in time. But then again, when I am recovering, my sweet husband can finish it without me. I think that is a big plus. Another big plus, I don't have a kitchen right now, so I can't eat whenever I want and find that I am makine good choices when we run out to grab a bite. When I went for my consult on Feb 5, I was 235, this morning, I am 214.5, YES!!! So maybe remodleing is a good pre-op diet!! Sorry that got so long. Now on to more important issues. I have been wanting to ask, does anyone have a recipe for homemade beef broth? I make a pretty good chicken broth, but have never tried beef. I forgot who posted it but thank you for the Veg Beef Soup recipe, I can't wait to try it as it sounds delish. Mag-So glad you got a new date so soon and do not have to wait until next month. Dose everyone get put on antibiotics after surgery? If so, I have a problem with them. I seem to always get a yeast infection, sorry so personal here but I want to make sure I have some monistat (sp) if needed. To everyone who was banded already, congrats and thank you for you post regarding your surgery. That has been the most helpful thing right now as I have been afraid of the pain issue. To everyone who has yet to be banded (myself included) Good luck and my prayers for a speedy recovery. I know there was something else I wanted to add. I took the last hour reading all the past post here on the March thread just getting caught up, but I am so tired I can't think anymore. Thanks all.

Mine is consider an outpatient surgery as I will only be in the hospital a max of 23 hours.

FYI, I was told no straws or sippy cups because they help you swallow air. I was also told to put liquids in a cup, try not to drink from a bottle, same reason. I am looking at the calendar right now, March 20 seems so far way and at the same time, it's comming up fast. Its like when I look at my husband and realize that we have been married for almost 13 years and it seems like we just met and at other times like we have been married for 50 years. Can anyone relate, or am I just nuts? I really want to thank everyone who has posted after surgery. That has really helped keep me calm. The only thing I am worried about for the most part is the gas pain. Been there, done that type of thing. For those being banded next, all my best and hope you have a speedy recovery.

Packing for the Hospital
Mrs Husker replied to MysticstarD's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Marjon9 & Furellie, how funny. I don't plan on wearing a bra home. I'm a 42 DD and if someone has a problem with the fact that I am "free balling", I hope to be to hopped up on meds to give a crap. -
At least you had clean underwear. Thanks for the laugh, I really needed it.

:angry :angry I am beyond livid right now and it has nothing to do with surgery. :angry :angry I live in Nebraska and if you have been watching the news, you see that we just got over a foot of snow yesterday. I work for the state at an aquarium and we all took yesterday off as our office is in the country and the plows never get to us before 3 or 4 in the afternoon. Now my boss came in and plowed 1 strip through the front (customer) and back (employee) parking lots last night. So when I got in today about 7:45am we had very limited parking. My boss came down about 8:30 to finish plowing and backed a truck into my car and broke my driver side headlight. I thought no big deal, I just get it replaced and get reimbursed. Wrong!!! It could take up to 4 weeks to get approval but I was told that if I wanted to, I could take it in and have it fixed and take the chance that it wouldn’t be reimbursed. It’s $170.51 just for the flipping headlight ,not counting the labor to install it. What a crock of $@&*. My surgery day is March 20. We are remodeling our kitchen. My house is a flipping mess. My new cabinets will be here on March 9. My pre-op testing is March 12. We have to put in a new sub-floor in the kitchen for the new tile. We are removing the soffet (sp) because we got larger upper cabinets. I didn’t have any clean socks today for work and am wearing my dd. It’s not like I don’t have a lot on my mind and on my plate right now. I realize that they are responsible and should pay for it, but, should I take the chance of getting it fixed and not being reimbursed, or take the chance of getting a ticket for driving with a busted headlight that they will not reimburse? I need a drink, and I don’t mean of a protein shake. Thanks for being there.

I have an appt to get it fixed Monday at 2:00. I will leave work at 1:30 and take the rest of the day and NOT count it as vacation just becaused they really pissed me off. I love my job and I love being out here in the middle of nowhere. For the most part, even though we are part of the state, we are left alone.

Will be banded on 3/8 and getting nervous
Mrs Husker replied to ChrissyB's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Chrissyb, I'm set for March 20. So looking forward to having it over. I have yet to have any second thoughts, but I still have 19 days left, so we will see. Best of luck on your journey. Join us on the March 2007 thread for people being banded in March. -
I tried the Designer Whey (8oz of Water with one scoop and ice) I didn't think it was too bad. It was no Slim Fast but I got it down. I am going to try Soy Protein 95 in the morning. To everyone getting banded tomorrow, my thoughs and prayers are with you. May you (and everyone to be banded this month) have a speedy and quick recovery.

Just wanted to pop on and say "Congrats to the "March First-ers" (good on hlayne). My boss called me this morning and said not to come in becasue of the snow. I can't even see across the street it is blowing soooo much. I think was have about 1 foot already and it is comming down about an inch an hour. To top it all off, i was planning on strating my shakes today and am out of milk. Well, I hope they taste fine with water, we will see. We are also re-doing our kitchen and will be without a working one for at least a week. So I went out and pickuped so Smart Ones, Lean Cousines (sp) and Healthy Choice TV dinners for myself and Hungery Man, canned pasta and other microwave food for the rest of the family.

Oops - posted in the wrong place before...
Mrs Husker replied to jagosta's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Jane. It is nice to have another person who has had the band for a while and know that it is still working. I will be getting mine on March 20 and can't wait. I am sure that you will be bomb-barded (sp) with question about long term banding. We also have a group from Canada here, look under local support. Once again welcome. -
I pray it is nothing concering the band but the best advice is to call your doctor.
-
Congrats on the date Blondylocks. I was also going to be banded on the 21 but they had to change it to March 20. Wishing everyone a speedy recovery next month and sending prayers that will we all pull through with flying colors.

Heartsmile, I believe that the support of you husband is the most important support one can ask for. This is the person who Chose to promised to be there for the good and the bad. I don't know what I would have done without my husbands love and support.
-
Congrats Momlambert!! You will be getting done the day before me. I will be thinking about you and sending you positive vibes!!

Tammy, When people who do not know that I had surgery ask how I am losing weight, I plan on telling the trurth, DIET & EXERCISE
-
Annalee and Machele, I decided to only tell people that I knew would support me. The others (including my younger sister, a very good friend and people at work) I plan on telling them that I had a small hernia (sp) repaired. The way I found out who would be told and who wouldn't was to bring up WLS and see what their reations was. My good friend is very much opposed to WLS, she see it as a cop out. Needless to say she is 5' 10" and 150 lbs and has never had a problem with weight. No one can walk in my shoes so no one has the right to tell me what is good for me and what isn't. This was my choice and I chose not to tell anyone who might be negative about it. And I don't consider it a cop out, I consider it a major step in the right direction. This is my life and I want to LIVE it!!
-
Synicalchick, Well today is your day, will be thinking about you today. Lets us know how it goes. If you feel up to it, maybe another hour by hour thing, that was great. Best wishes on a speedy recovery. Got to get my dd up and going and ready for school. She is NOT a morning person.

Gagging on breathing tube post-op?
Mrs Husker replied to hopeful07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had several surgeries where I have woken up. The first was when I was 19 and was having my wisdom teeth pulled. The next one was about 13 years ago and I was having my index finger reattached (long story). When I was going under it felt like I had a ton of weight on my chest and I couldn’t breath. I thought that I was going to die. I woke up in the middle of that operation and I had a conversation with the anesthesiologist about what was going on and after a few minutes he said good night and that was the last thing I remember. Both of those times I didn’t feel any pain because they had used a local also. Now, my c-section was another story. I wasn’t under when it started. But after I heard my daughter first cry, I must have just let myself go. I woke up again while they were putting in the final staples. I started to gag on the tube in my throat and the anesthesiologist asked the doctor if my gagging was a problem for him, the doctors said no because he was almost done. They both went white when I “replayed” their conversations to them. At my last colonoscopy (Nov 06) I woke up part way through. I was told that they couldn’t give me anything else to put me back under because my blood pressure was too low. Trust me, being awake with a scope up your bottom half way to your throat is painful. Am I worried about this surgery? HECK YES!!! But after all that I have been through, I am willing to take the chance of waking up during surgery just so I don’t fall into a “permanent” sleep (aka death) because of my weight.
