Sunbunnie, It's true, Dr McBride will not see you until you have insurance approval. I switched insurances and called them to find out what they needed. I then faxed everything over to the new insurance myself. I wanted to make sure that everything was done quickly. Have you been to the talk that Dr McBride gives about the different surgeries that they do yet? Or have you been to the support group meeting that is the first Monday of the month at 6:00? I know that the July meeting will be about plastic surgery after wls., but Sue, the nurse who does all the paperwork for approval will be there and you can talk to her about what you might need for approval.

ITS GARDENING TIME!!! ITS GARDENING TIME!!!:clap2: I wanted to start a thread for us gardeners. I know that you are out there, so please "stop by" and give advice, hints or just share your success. I am in the process of getting my vegtable garden ready. I can't wait!!! I love to garden. I find that it is very relaxing, even pulling and hoeing the weeds. I love watching everything sprout. To see it grow, then pick it and can it. That is the best part, canning. I will even buy chicken when it is on sale just so I can can it. My DH loves it, but thinks I'm nuts. This year I want to start some aspargus and rubarb. I have never done either so I hope it works. Any advice will be helpful. I also have to restart my strawberry patch as I lost over 80% of it due to frost. I was wanting to move it but was hoping to do it next year after I got just one more harvest out of it. Well, looks like I will have to buy strawberries for jam this year. I was also wanting to try a different "brand" of strawberries, any suggestions? Staples in my garden are tomatos (beef and roma), green Beans (bush, not pole) carrots, beats (we love them pickeled), onions, green peppers, hot peppers, leaf lettuce, leaf spinach, raddish, potatoes, cucumbers (I will have to find my recipe for over ripe cuccumbers and share it), and squash. I have yet to have success with peas, so I am giving up on them. I tried growing brussel sprouts last year but waited to long to harvest so they were on the "woody" side. I might do califlower and brocolli (sp) again. I did a herb garden last year, but don't plan on doing that again. Altho my garlic is back up this year. I hope I am not the only gardening nut in this bunch or I am going to "sound" pretty stupid "talking" to myself on this thread. Thanks in advance for all the advice and helpful hints.

I am just checking in to see how everyone is doing. I still have a lot of post to catch up on. This last week was really hard. I had my sons graduation to plan for and worked myself sick trying to get everything done around the house. I also lost someone very dear to me. His name is Matt and I've known him for about 12 years. He just turned 21 in April, and got married on Feb 14 this year. He died in an IED explosion on May 6. Matt was the most kind hearted, giving person. He always had a moment to spear with anyone who needed just a moment. He loved his family and his God. I am still crying as I type this knowing that I will never be able to see him again. There were about 250 Patriot Guard Riders at his service this past Friday. It was held at our local high school because of how many people wanted to pay their respects. The elementary school students lined the road from the funeral home to the high school. It was the most amazing thing to see. All the children mixed in with all the Patriot Guard bikers, all holding flags. I don't think that there are many people in our town who were not touch in some way by this sweet gentle person. The only thing that makes this bearable is the fact that I know where Matt is now. He is in Heaven serving God the way he served his country, with everything he has.

NSV: When I am standing up and I look down, the only thing that is blocking my veiw of my feet are my boobs!!! I am on my way out of town for work for the weekend and decided that I would wear something comfortable to work for the drive. I normally wear jeans and on oversized work shirt and today I am wearing a pair of workout (not quite sweets) pants and a t-shirt that fits. Everyone here (all 4 other employees) has told me today that they can see the weight loss and I was looking good. Man that made my day.

Yep. My port is tilted also but after a lot of pushing on my stomach and help from the needle (ouch) the PA was able to get in 1.3 cc.
-
Got my fill today. First I have a 10cm band and got 1.3cc in. They used floro and I had to do a swallow first just to make sure everything was working. Now the drama. MY BAND HAS FILPPED!!!!!!! Well, tilted up. Instead of facing out, it is looking up at me. It took the PA forever to get it to tilt so she could get it (pushing on my stomach and using the needle), but it wasn't bad at all. There was an ouch moment or two but it wasn't bad. They also don't do the numming shot. Emily, the PA, said I would need to have another surgery to have my port put to right. I told her lets wait and see.

Today I am in size 18 jeans (was 22) so very happy about that. Also as of this morning, I'm 196. So I lost 3 lbs and don't know how I did it. I do believe that I am feeling some restriction and am not eating as much as before. Before I was like 1 1/2 cups a food, now about 1 cup per meal. My exercise hasn't increased and I did have 2 days last week where I didn't eat right. I have an appt for a fill for tomorrow and don't know if I should do it. After I eat I stay full for up to 3 hours if not longer and since I lost the 3 lbs this week, I don't know what to do. Thank goodness I have my support group tonight and I hope the the nurse will be there to ask. Could the "restriction" I feel be that my TOM is coming? Before banding, the two weeks before I didn't feel hungery and wouldn't eat as much. What would you do?

That would have scared the crap out of me and I would have been beating on my drs door withing minutes. I hope all is well with you now. Keep us posted on what you dr has to say on Wed. Good Luck.

Make sure you are getting in your protein. When I was on the liquids the protein shakes kept me full longer then broth. Also, can you have sf jello? That was a life saver for me. -
I am diabetic and I have 4. The newest one I just got in Feb and one spot on it did take longer to heal but I am not sure if it was because of being diabetic or if it was the area he seemed to go over and over and over. The one (my avatar) on my upper back healed just fine. But I would check with your doctor before you just go do it. BTW, I am already planning my 5th and 6th one. I plan on waiting until I get closer to goal because I and getting one of them below my upper back one and I have some "rolls" there. This was recommended to me by my tatoo guy. The sixth one will be done in white ink only.

What is the one thing that you have that you wish you NEVER bought or don't want poeple to know that you bought it? I'll admit it, I got the Flow-be. I've used it and it works, but people snicker when I tell them that i have one.

My neighbor used sented cat litter around his veg garden and it keeps the rabbits out. My husband uses a pelet gun.

Here is that link: http://lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=14814 Best of luck and welcom to BandLand.

Yes to the portein. If you can't find any at your local stores, try unjury.com. Try to get at least 65grams (what I was told by my dr) of protein per day. As for the liquid gas reducer, I loved the gas-x strips and they were a life saver. The liquid stage is hard but you stomach needs to heal. Stick with it and follow your doctors orders. You can do it and get through it. You might want to check out the thread about what to have post-op. If I can find it, I will post the link here.

Ok, so what is colonics? Is it the same as an enema? Wouldn't a colon cleaner do the same thing?

I am one lucky woman!!! Two guys I know from work gave me 2 pounds of morrell mushrooms that they found today. Does anyone have any recipes for them that does not include flour and hot oil? I've looked on the web and so far haven't found anything. Would love to try something new and band friendly.

Books, books and more books. I love to read. Also can't give up my Food Saver (wore out the first one), my pressure cooker (love canning) and my George Forman.

Thanks for the kind words, but I had my surgery March 20. I did start walking within hours of surgery tho and have been walking ever since.
-
Did a 40 min walk and had my heart rate up to 132. I stopped and check it three times. I hope this will get things moving again on the scale. I get my first fill May 8 and can't wait. So 1 session down and 19 to go. Plus I got in my 64 oz of water today.
-
Thank you again Tammy.

I know that it wasn't exercise but it was worth a shot. I plan on doing Richard tonight (Love Sweating to the Oldies) if my legs hold out otherwise I will be on the recumbent (sp) bike. So, how do I find out what my target heart rate should be?

Today (and tomorrow) at work we are doing a program called Water Works. We have 800-900 5th graders come to our park and do different activities all have to do with water. All these kids come throught the aquarium (where I work) and I get to walk around the tanks from 9am to 1:30pm non-stop. Now 22 laps around the aquarium makes 1 mile, I did about 52 laps today. I had to keep stoping to answer questions about the fish and our 70 lb snapping turtle. I also lost count of how many times I had to yell "Stop running" or "Don't tap/pound on the glass". So my question is, Can this count as my 45 min exercise for the day?
