Have you cheated Post op???
itschoice replied to suzetteherrera's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have posted this a few times for others. This helped me a lot. Don't use the broth that comes in a can. Home made broth is so much more filling. Can broth just did not satisfy me. If you are on Clear Liquids or full liquids this helps. Make some chicken soup and let some of the vegetables dissolve. Then strain it and sip on it. Be creative. I had my 17 year old son cut up some potatoes into very very small squares and boil it in chicken broth from a can until the potatoes get very soft some should melt. Again strain and sip. My husband and son boiled some flank steak they cut in small cubes. As soon as it came to a boil they changed the Water to get the brown foam that floats on top out (Rinse it to get it all out). Then add clean water, cilantro, green onion, onion, season (i.e. garlic power, Lawrys, salt) zucchini, carrots, celery, and peeled potato in this order. Boil for 2 to 4 hours and add water as needed. Once this is almost all cooked add cabbage and boil for another 1/2 hour or so. You want the cabbage to start to melt. Then add a bag of frozen corn. You want everything to boil until everything starts to melt. Use a mesh strainer to serve yourself and for the family have them add avocado and fresh lime juice to their bowl. If you plan on using it for you cream soups take your juice and veggies out before you add the corn because the corn does not blend well. At that point you can add a bit of smashed avocado to yours as well. If it gets too thick add some can broth to yours and enjoy. Oh, the broth will change the taste. The broth from this soup is the best!!!! It is much more filling than can broth. I was so satisfied that I felt like I was cheating. I would have 2 or 3 ounces every half hour or so. It would fill me up and I was satisfied. The canned broth on the other hand, I could only stomach so much of it because of the taste. Be creative. My husband also boiled some can broth with Pasta and potatoes. I drank the broth and it was great. My son and his friend eat the pasta, potatoes, and the broth and his friend said Campbells should be as good. Good luck and happy banding!!! It will get better. -

2-1/2 days post op and need advise!!
itschoice replied to Grandma26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just keep trying. Once the swelling goes down you will. Measure ahead of time and set a goal for finishing that amount and add to it everyday. Also check your urine and make sure you are not getting dehydrated. I would set the kitchen timer for like every 15 minutes and I had to have 1 1/2 to 2 ounces every 15 minutes. I would take it from my pre measured bottle and thats how I pushed my self to do more. I never got up to the 60+ ounces they wanted though. However, my urine was clear so I knew I was not dehydrated. -
Restriction= Full or just lots of pb/sliming?
itschoice replied to hopeful41411's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes i can eat bread and sometimes i cant. I dont feel full but I often forget to eat because I am not getting hungry (when I am busy). Then sometimes i am hungry but its kind of different. I cant say that i am starving but i start to get light headed and shaky when i have forgotten to eat. The band for me has eliminated the tummy hungry signal for the most part. However it does not tell me when to stop eating very well and it does not make me eat right, or the right kinds of foods. -
Is this a "stuck" episode
itschoice replied to comtemplating's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say that it is the start of restriction. It could be due to swelling from the fill and not the fill level you are at. If it is the start of restriction if you do not chew well it could feel like that. Also it could be first bite syndrome. Some people, me included, have trouble with the first bite. It hurts and sometimes feels like it wants to come back up. For me if I get that feeling that you describe and it lasts for more than a minute i cant eat any more or i will be stuck or already am stuck. To me it sounds more like first bite syndrome. If it does not go away then you are stuck. But yes that is the feeling of being stuck. At least that is my opinion. -
Husband doesn't understand why I will be in pain!!
itschoice replied to talkalot1981's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is also a nerve in your stomach that when irritated causes pain in your left shoulder. It can be irritated by the band being put on, the gas pumped in to your body cavity, eating/drinking too much, or gas in your stomach that makes you burp. Now tell him to imagine getting a tooth filled with no Novocain. Some teeth you can get work done on with little discomfort while others just one little tap on that nerve can send you through the roof. Also ask him if he has ever had an air bubble in his back. It feels like you have a knife in your back. Sometimes your shoulder can hurt like that and it makes it difficult to move or lift your arm. Now on a positive note it does go away. I was worried that it was going to always hurt after i got the band. Now it only hurts once in a while, when I drink too much too fast (I think I made my stomach too heavy), or when I have a burp stuck and i lay down to go to sleep (I have to sit up and burp it out and it goes away). Also now it only bothers when it does hurt and it does not feel like a knife is stuck in me. -
liquids getting stuck?
itschoice replied to andy343858's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had liquids get stuck. I have to start the day with hot water when I am tight, and drink very small sips. If you are tight or swollen even water can come back up if you drink too fast. Also, if I have to burp after drinking it can feel like it was stuck too. -
A little gross but desperately need help
itschoice replied to Shay7997's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It could be mucous too but I think its this thing that ends up flapping around in there. It tickles you and you feel it moving around. It kind of feels like mucous but it keeps coming back. I would drink something and it felt better and then it came back. It kind of feels like when you bite your cheek and you end up with a little string of flesh that moves back and forth and tickles you. When this happens to me I find myself poking at it with my tongue. When your band gets tight mucous can also be a problem. It can even block your stoma in the morning. I have to drink a very hot cup of Water every morning before I drink water or anything else or I end up BPing (Since my last fill). Anyway just my 2 cents. -

You know what it looked like??? You ever bit the inside of your cheek really bad and you look in the mirror and its like white and sometimes the piece you almost bit off is hanging there like a string? That is what it looked like when I pulled it out. And dont worry about it coming out at work. It was just kind of like having a hair on my tongue but it was easier to grab. Weeks would be worse case. It did last for awhile though. -

You know I had the same thing. I tried to ignore it and it did bother me. It would come up on to the back of my tongue. I could even see some white thing back there. It was like a string and it would move around to different sides of my throat. I don't think it was mucous though because one day it finally came up and I pulled it out with my fingers. I felt it as I pulled it out slide up my throat. It was stringy. I think when they put the tube down your throat it irritated some of the tissue and dislodged it. Like skinning you knee. What I pulled out was not mucous. It did not dissolve in my fingers. I was in the shower and I ran it under the Water and was able to roll it up into a ball. If I had not been in the shower I would have looked in the mirror. I think the reason I could not cough it up or get liquid to make it go down is because it was still connected to me and had to fall off by itself. I can't remember how long it took but I think it was a few weeks. It will go away and really I had forgotten about it until I read your post. Good luck!! -
banded 6/08 & complications (minor) already .... scared
itschoice replied to Kristine73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does your doc know about the fever? You should call. Did they give you any instructions if you developed a fever? I don't want to worry you and I never post alarm posts but the fever makes me worry you might have an infection. Please check it out. And I hope you feel better after your ordeal. I went through a similar situation with the swelling but they had to unbuckle my band. -
Wow!!! You look fabulous!!! Thank you for sharing the photos.

Happy Days Are Here Again
itschoice replied to Midnite_Lady's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Good Job!!! Keep up the good work!!! As it stands I can't even imagine what loosing 60 pounds will do but 30 has let do more!!! I went camping for the first time in 20 years and I have more energy. It is wonderful!!! -
I had some sticking out too. One I actually pulled out myself because it was after my first surgery and more than 5 weeks had gone by. It was all dissolved and just sitting there in its little hole. The other two were left over from my 3rd surgery and were very long. They were very firmly in place so at my first fill the doc pulled them out. It is best to leave them alone and they should dissolve. If they don't have your doc pull them out at your next appointment. It is normal to have stitches sticking out after surgery. It happens.

I agree with Oregondaisy. It is a daily problem for me now and I am trying to figure out how to keep myself regular. I have read here that Miralax helps but for me it just seems to have me go the bare minimum everyday. Last week I switched it one day with a stool softener and I went well but since then I was taking a stool softener everyday and I took 2 one day and nothing. So back to the Miralax I go and I am going to take the suggestion I read here of the V8 juice since the liquid fiber goes right through me and swells in my intestines making the poo to big to come out.

Let us know what happens. I would be so worried. Are you okay? You have to just take it easy and wait and see what happens. I am so glad that eviebell has some first hand information because I don't know what I would do.

You know, the band behaves different for some people in the morning than in the afternoon. For me just after a fill I have to have something hot very very slowly with very very small sips or it wants to come back up. Then I drink Water next, 1/4 to 1/2 a bottle in case I have an issue and then my shake. The first few days after a fill I have to do this and it can take 3 hours to finish all 3 things. I am also full from it until about noon. You really need to talk to your doc because I would worry too. You also cannot eat rushed or it could come back up. I wish you luck in this journey and I hope that you find the wls that is best for you.

Question about sweet spot in 10 cc band
itschoice replied to HollyRnOh's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am at 3 cc's. in a 10 cc band. I can eat anything and am hungry. I was over filled at 4.5 cc's so I think 3.5 to 4 cc's should do it for me. I was completely not hungry at 4.5 cc's but I could not get water down. I have an appointment on Tuesday 6/2 so I hope we find the spot then. -
I was told 2 oz at a time every 15 minutes or so. I hope that helps.
