  1. Happy 58th Birthday Judy Ann!

Kelly Girl~ I live near Texarkana, Texas. What part of north-east Texas are you from? I was banded in Texarkana by a team of fantastic doctors. They are a husband/wife team, and I will have my fills included in my first year follow-ups. My doctor has told me of patients that have had their surgery in Mexico, but are coming to them for their fills. (of course no names were mentioned) I will get my first fill June 29th. I am having to make a trip out of town, and he thought it best to wait until I get back so I could be close "just in case". I was banded on May 3rd. Judy Ann

Seminole~ I know what you are talking about with the bad taste going on. I had it and no matter what I did, (brushing 10 times a day!) it just had to run its course. I asked a girl who had been banded about 6 weeks ahead of me, and she said it was from the anethesia. She told me it would leave after about a week, and it finally did. I sucked on sugar-free mints some, and my mouth even felt like it had a film in it. Drinking water seemed to help for a few minutes, so I always got my water in!! It was wonderful when it finally left. I am on my 12th day of being banded. It gets better every day. I havae tried to do some of the real food, and some I have had trouble with, and some of it surprisingly does not effect me. But when it does, WOW! I know I have got to wait on that one again. The blender has become one of my best friends. I blended hamburger, green chilies, cream of mushroom soup, a dap of 1% milk, and some fat-free cheddar cheese, and had the same basic cassarole as my family, except I didn't get to have the corn tortillas. It was odd with the texture, but still tasted great. Glad you are doing so well. I walk as much as possible. Sometimes it isn't but about 15 minutes, and sometimes I get in 30 - 45 minutes, a couple times a day. I also do some easy leg lifts while laying on my side supported by my elbow and hand. I haven't yet done anything simular to crunches though!! Judy Ann

Hi Jessiebear~ I am from south of Texarkana and was banded May 3, just 9 days ago. I have lost 22 pounds since I signed up, 9 since I was banded. I had 2 weeks of slimfast dieting, pre-op. What kind of diet were you on? You have done great! Nice to have you aboard! Judy Ann

Jamoorse~ Have you had any trouble with the bun part of the hamburger being "sticky" and not wanting to pass on down? A friend of mine that had the band 7 weeks ago was telling me she eats hamburgers, chineese, mexican, or anything she wants, just smaller portions and just chews it well. I am still on simple tomato soup, diluted. I did boil a potato and made some potato soup. I read where some of the banders had a tomato-cheese soup they were doing. That sounded so good!!!

    It's real now

Hey J~ My doctors had told me to wear them. I took them off for a funeral I had to attend yesterday, wore them again today, and I threw them in the trash just a while ago! I just assumed everybody had to wear them since it was stressed to me! They have about driven me crazy. I am hot natured to begin with and wearing those under my jeans was about my limit today because it got up around 90!! Cook~ I love to cook too, though I am not a chef by any means. I made the mistake of picking some blackberries the day after my surgery to cook a cobbler for my husband, and I got a little sore because of that, but I really think it did me good in the long run. I didn't suffer any at all with gas as some have, and the only sore spot I have now is around my port site. I sure haven't heard of the cottage cheese and yogart. I would have really enjoyed that one!! ha! Today is my One Week Anniversary! Judy Ann

Cookinjilli~ I, like you, am looking at 100 pounds to lose. I don't know, when I reach that point, I may decide to lose a few more. I am 5'4 1/2" with a med frame. This is the neatest website. I just stumbled upon it the other day, right about the time I was banded on May 3. We will be about 3 weeks apart. Good luck! So far, I have had an easy time with it. I just do not like wearing these surgical hose for 2 weeks!!!! Judy Ann

    Approved!!!!!!!

Congratulations! I know your excitement. I met with the coordinator on Apr 19, and luckily got all my testing done, and had my surgery on May 3. Since I first met with the staff, I have lost 20 pounds. I was very fortunate to have an insurance company that completely supports this surgery, and they always respond quickly. That is how from the day of my first meeting and exam to the day of my surgery it was only 2 weeks! I hardly had time to get nervous. I had made my mind up though and had prayed about it and felt comfortable with it. I am not too far from you, I live near Texarkana. I wish you well! Judy Ann

Hey Sem~ I was banded on May 3, and am doing great. I was told to walk, walk, walk! It helps with the gas problem, so I did. I picked blackberries the day after my surgery, and naturally got a little sore from the bending and reaching, but other than that, things are great. I met with the coordinator on April 19 and my weight that day was 250. I went to my first suppoort meeting last night where they weighed us in, and I had lost 20 pounds. I was so excited! I am still in the liquid stage, but am doing fine. I don't want to take any chances on slippage or anything, so I am following the plan to the letter! I have really been surprised how easy it is though. Good luck to every other Mayer out there!! Judy Ann

Hi! I am 6 days post-op, and things are going great. Since I first met and signed up with my coordinator, on April 19, I have lost 20 pounds, 5.4 of which are since by surgery. My big day was May 3, and I am so anxious for the day to be able to shop in a regular clothing store!! Judy Ann

I was banded on May 3, just 6 days ago. Things are going great, and I went to my first support meeting last night. It was very informative. Since first signing up on April 19, I have lost 20 pounds. I just happened to stumble onto this web, and have been reading lots of postings. Everybody seems so eager to share their experiences and all seem to be so optimistic that you just can't help getting excited! Judy Ann
  14. Kenny, I know your excitement and can relate to it well! I went to my first seminar in March, and after careful consideration, made an appointment. I saw Dr Keilin and Dr Hekier and my insurance coverage was fantastic. These two doctors are a husband/wife team that do super jobs here in Texarkana, TX. I went in yesterday morning, May 3, and got banded. I had lost 13.4 pounds through the pre-op phase, and I am finding out what it is all about nowl I am a little sore today, but I think it is because I probably pushed myself. I picked some blackberries that involved some bending and stooping this morning (I live out in the country and I walked along the road and picked them) and have been somewhat sore since. I was told to be active and do as much walking as I could to help relieve the gas that is used during the surgery. Other than that, things are going great. I am so anxious for my first weigh-in in a couple of weeks. I hope things will go well for you. I will be checking to see if you give an update later. Hang in there! Judy Ann

Yes, the team Dr Keilin and her husband, Dr Hekier, have a support meeting on the second Monday of the month. They also have a seminar they hold for information for those considering having the lapband. The siminars are held on the second Tuesday of the month. I had my surgery done yesterday at Wadley Regional Medical Center. I had lost 13.6 pounds during the 2 week pre-op. I am sore today, but it is not enough yet for me to have to take any pain medications. I expect to be back at my job on Monday. Judy Ann
