My doctor is on the other side of town and really isn't offering me any help when I go in... I'm struggling and he just tells me to do things that I am already trying to do. It would help to find a doctor who has a nutritionist on staff. my doctor also only will give me .5 ccs at a time, which isn't really all that cost effective and doesn't make a huge difference for me Anyone know of a good doc?

I am trying to find a new fill doctor. My surgeon wants $150 and will only do .5cc at a time regardless of how restricted you are. I called around and told another doc that I think I have around 3 cc in my band, she said that a lot of times that is it, that that is a full band even though it holds 9.75 ccs.... what? That just doesn't make sense to me. I live in Houston, one of the biggest cities in the country and I can't find a darn doctor to do my fills!!
-
This is so me too!! Except I only lost 30 the first time around - I haven't thought much about my lap band in the last 16 months or so, looking forward to getting back on track

Scratch that, found an old post I have 6 ccs - is that horrible? Because I can eat whatever I want - now I'm worried that I've totally messed this up...
-
I haven't been to the doctor for a fill in over a year. Our insurance changed and then I had a baby (was able to eat a ton due to not being restricted much at all) so I never had an unfill. I am having to pay for fills out of pocket now and my doctor will only do .5ccs at at time, when I'm paying $150 each time I want to get my money's worth and don't want to go back all the time. Is this common? Or is my doc on the more conservative side? Thanks!

Need A Good Lap Band Fill Dr In Houston Tx Area
HotMama24 replied to cisco29's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just called - he doesn't do fills for patients who didn't have surgery with him. -
Seriously?? My problem is that I'm not sure if I can get a fill with someone else that didn't do my surgery, you know?
-
Fantastic direction to send me in. I honestly didn't really know where to start. I am sure there are some recipes and ideas I can look up here I will take all the help I can get. I am ready to do this

So, I am going to try not to bore you all to death and give you the short version of my story... March 2009, surgery lost about 25 lbs right away then it slowed down, mostly my fault Sept 2009 - DH was diagnosed with cancer and we proceeded with months of chemo before he was finally in remission. I was totally not taking care of myself during this time, I was run ragged. Jan 2010 - insurance changed - Dr doesn't take BCBS March 2010 - I got pregnant with our third child with the miracle of fertility treatments December had baby So now I am about 189, I started at 206 the day of surgery. I haven't been to my doctor in like 14 months and I have an appt on Friday for a fill - not sure what my insurance is going to cover, hopefully some since the fill is $150 and my doc only doesn't 1/2 cc at a time. I am so far off track it isn't even funny. I don't watch what I eat at all, I can eat a ton and I'm tired of being this size. I get stuck often from eating too fast and too big of bites. This is where i am at at the moment - I need help and support getting back on track. I honestly don't even remember any of the rules on how to eat properly!! So looking forward to working with some people to help me in my journey (and maybe I can help you too!! lol) Thanks for making it to the end!

I had my surgery in March 2009. I lost about 25 lbs right in the begining and nothing really after that. I had a few fills, but still wasn't loosing. in March 2010 I got pregnant with my third child and had my beautiful son in December. I never had an unfill since I was still able to eat whatever I wanted. So now, I am almost back to what I was when I got pregnant (I had gained a little bit of the 25 back). I'm working out at the gym 2-3 times a week and I am at a stand still weight wise, and I KNOW its because of my eating. I am living like I haven't had this surgery and its not doing me any good. When I eat, often (maybe once a day) I get stuck when I first start, I have to wait a while for it to pass, or I made a mad dash to the bathroom, and then I finish eating later. Its getting old. I would think its because I'm too tight, but it can't be because I can eat way more than I should. I just don't know where to go from here. I want to get things under control before I see my doctor if I can because our new insurance isn't accepted by them. Please... any advice? I have no idea where to even begin to start this journey again.

Thanks guys, I bet you are both right, I am constantly trying to hurry and shove food down my throat to chase after everyone! I guess I'm having a really hard time making the change. I have been out of the game so long that I don't even know how many calories I'm suppose to be eating! Sad huh? LOL When I am pregnant I just eat whatever and I am still in that mindset. No bueno!

I feel like I started this journey off really well, I lost about 20 lbs the first 2 weeks and I lost a tiny bit since then, but have since gained it back. I went for fill in July, then we went on a vacation and when we got back my husband was diagnosed with cancer. He is in remissing now after months of chemo and still we are doing testing and such but I feel like I am almost using that as an excuse. I also run my own sucessful business and I feel like I let that consume all my time along with being a wife and mom. But I need something to get me back on track! I hate going to my doctor, he doesn't give me enough time to talk to him about my problems and the nurse is really judgemental. I'm sure I need alot more of a fill, I can't eat much in the morning, and am tight when I first start to eat, but after I eat my first few bites, I can eat whatever and however much i want without feeling full.... I was down to 176 now I am back to 184  I don't want to keep going up, I am only 22 lbs from where I started and I could imagine how easily that could go back on. I need something a bit more structured I guess... as far as what to do during the day. Any help please? I need a friend who can listen and share some advice. Thanks!

Yeah, its the drive just as much as the money too..its NOT in a easy place and I have to pay tolls each way to get there...grrrrr....
-
I've lost 28, sadly over the last 2 months I have only lost 3 of that. I need a fill but my free 90 days of fills are over and I just don't have the money right now to shell out for it. I know it would help since I can eat alot, but I just can't right now
-
We should have all had our surgery by now! How is everyone healing, feeling, loosing?? What stage of the diet are you on? I thought it would be cool to have a thread where we can all keep our weights to track our progress. I would be more than happy to keep it updated.

a non-supportive spouse...

I'm so glad that you were able to get that huge burden off of your chest. Good luck with everything!! -
a non-supportive spouse...
HotMama24 replied to katwmn63's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That will be hard, I would imagine. My husband was 110% supportive of whatever I was doing to get myself healthy. Two days after surgery, I got the flu...yes recoverying, on liquids and had the worst bout of the flu I have ever had. I was in the worst pain of my life (and I've had two c-sections) this was nothing compared to that. If my husband hadn't been there by my side supporting me and doing whatever he could for me, I would have been a mess (more so than I already was). I would try to talk to him about the risks and benefits of the surgery and have him come in and talk wtih the surgeon to get out any worries he has. Keeping him in the dark is NOT the answer. You will need him. Good luck! -
In the deciding phase of having surgery- has anyone regretted having the surgery?
HotMama24 replied to attitudefree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There were times before surgery that I was beating myself up saying that I could do this on my own, that this was a drastic step for those more overweight than me... but my track record was there, staring me in the face showing me that I couldn't do this on my own. It is hard trying to get to that sweet spot and still trying to make good choices, but it is so worth it! Good luck! -
Sore throat 3 days post op, any ideas?
HotMama24 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know why my throat is so sore... I don't know if it is from being intubated or what. I am 3 days post-op and the pain comes and goes, sometimes its mild but sometimes its really bad. It feels like someone is blowing a balloon in my throat. Did this happen to anyone else? Any suggestions on how to avoid it would be much appreciated! -

I am so sorry you are dealing with this too! This was HORRIBLE, it did go away though. Good luck! -
HAHA! Too funny, I feel the same way. Plus I am frustrated because my doctor is sick and my first fill was suppose to be Friday, then Tuesday and they cancelled BOTH appointments and now I'm scheduled Friday. I need a fillllllll....

I am all alone :w00t: LOL I have my pre-op appt on the 18th, then my surgery on the 20th. I don't have to do a pre-op diet, but I think that I might do it for about 2 days before just to get used to it. I hope I recover as well as it sounds like you all are doing. I have had 2 c-sections, so I can't imagine that this is worse than that!

I'm gald that you are feeling better! I am too, unfortunatly I haven't lost any weight in the last two days, but I shouldn't be weighing everyday anyway! Oh well...off to sip sip sip :smile2:

I am on purees for two weeks now and I am lost! It sounds like purees aren't mushies but they aren't liquids either! It says everything I eat has to be put in the blender or the food processor until it is applesauce-like consistency! I need recipes!! HELP!!!!

Thanks so much! Its just so hard, right now eating egg salad and it looks nasty. LOL Thanks for your help and support!
