People use the word failure in such a negative way but really, when it comes down to it, you put yourself on the line and you followed through. Do you know how much :hail: courage that takes? I think you were very brave. If you hadn't tried, think about where you would be. Failure?, not a chance. I think when you are in the research and decision part of this journey, you don't want to hear that this remarkable tool, your salvation so you have been told, has a dark side. In order to reconcile this you look for something the person might have done to cause the problem. That way you don't have to face the possiblity that you too could have a problem. Perhaps this person was trying to do this. In the meantime, it was very insensitive and good for you for telling her so. Life is about learning and I am sure she learned something today. T

5 days post band and tongue is really red
terrriho replied to suchadiva's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I once had the thrush problem. It was due to some medication I had been taking that killed off all the good bacteria in my mouth. That left the door open for those little yeast beasties to take over and turn my tongue white. My solution was to eat some yogurt with live bacteria cultures in it and not brush my teeth for a few hours. That did the trick . Yogurt also helps to restore the balance of bacteria in your gut if you have diarrhea. It won't help if you have a virus or food poisoning. That's my home remedy and of course you should always check with and follow your doctor's advice, imho. Good luck, terriho -
You guys are great! I haven't been banded yet, still working on it. But as usual, you have given my some good ideas. I told my husband at the outset that I did not want to tell anyone for the reasons a lot of you have outlined already. But also, as obese people we are judged and categorized because of our weight and this is stupid. I just want to be known for who I really am not just for what I weigh. Don't get me wrong, I know my weight is a big part of who I am and has colored many of my life's choices but that is nobody's business but mine and that is the way I want to keep it. Not sure who said it but it goes something like this, obesity is a very public vice. I am looking forward to being anonymous.

still no fill for me .. more behavior modification.
terrriho replied to ROGER-FL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think Sandybells is on to something. Everyone knows fills are a part of the treatment. If it isn't money related (and what isn't) then I would ask point blank if there is something about your particular situation (different than most) that would prevent you from getting a fill in a timely fashion. I have found that doctors won't deliver anymore bad news than they have to unless you ask the question. Just my 2cents, Terri -
Greeting Bandlanders, I am new, in the research phase, been noodling around this site for a couple of days, my story is your story, weight control struggle, successful dieting/unsuccessful maintenance, wits end, looking at an unhealthy future, I just want to fit in (and I you'all know what I mean here). From my research, I have found the success rate of the surgery goes up dramatically the more procedures a doctor has done. And here is my dilemma. :Banane13: I live in Montana and the only lap band surgeon I have found in the state has only done a total of 25 procedures and I don't know of any fill doctors here. I want to know how important/dependent you are on having your lap band doc nearby. I would like to have the surgery performed by someone who has had a ton of experience but that is a days drive from home. I know some of you go to Mexico for your surgery. I would expect some conditions need attention fairy quickly. Have you had any complications and, if so, how did you get medical advice/help? You all seem so supportive and are a wealth of experience and information I look forward "posting" with you. Many thanks, Terri
