I'm not a dr., but John Daly (professional golfer) had lapband and he smokes like a train, and has lost close to 100 lbs. I too am a smoker, and my dr. told me I needed to quit. I did quit for about two weeks. I have since started back, and told my dr. He told me that I needed to quit for my health, not the lapband. Just my experience.

Should not have read surgery stories. Need reassurance
wildbill replied to gracierose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was discharged before lunch on the day of surgery, slept for about 3 hours at my daughters house, woke up refreshed. Stomach hurt some, but not too bad. Had some pretty serious indigestion, but that went away in about 2 hours. Then made a 4 hour road trip home. The next day I felt much better!!!! I had surgery on Friday, and went back to work on Monday. Was real tired, but the pain had all but went away. After one week, I felt like a million bucks. I am not quite 3 weeks out and the dr. has returned my back to all normal activities. I even mowed with my tractor last week. Don't be afraid. Make sure you have something for gas BEFORE you get it!!!! Walk as much as you can, and you will be fine. -
i felt better after beginning my vitamins. i also had trouble eating very much. just try to keep your strenght up.

I was banded on the 27th also. most of the surgery pain is now gone, but the gas does flair up every now and then. Gas X dissovable has worked good. good luck to everyone!!!

I had mine Friday, and I am an asst. principal, and I wouldn't have been comfortable back at work on Sat. I am planning on going back monday, and should be fine, but the day after you will be very sore and very uncomfortable.

I was banded Friday and had some terrible discomfort, including soreness and indigestion. That seemed to go away Friday evening and have felt much better on Saturday. I have eaten more than I thought I could Sat., like 4 oz of soup broth for lunch and supper, several popcicles, and even an sugar free pudding. I am hopeful that Sunday will be even better as far as pain. I do have one concern though, tonight an armadillo was in my yard and I hit it pretty hard with a stick, without thinking. I was worried about causing my band to slip, but there doesn't seem to be any pain. I guess I would know if i did any damage?

I've got a great support system. I have told everyone, probably will be some talk, but we are a small school and I consider everyone I work with a friend. Besides, they will really wonder how the weight comes off!! I am the asst. principal, so the week of inservice, I can take it fairly easy. Hope to stay in touch!! Timandmich, where are you having your surgery? I am having my done by dr. felts in dallas.

Hate to jump in, but I am also in education and expecting insurance acceptance tomorrow, which hopefully allow me to set my date on the 13th also. We start inservice days on the 16th too, and I am not planning on taking off. The receptionist told me her aunt had surgery and two days later was sitting on a deer stand, so hopefully I can pull this off!!!

I've got BCBS of Texas, and there aren't alot of strict requirements. I have to have 3 months of supervised dieting and a psych eval. and I guess thats about it. Hope it won't take too long to schedule after last consult.

I too am hoping to be banded in August. I go for my final consultation July 28, and hope to set a quick surgery date. I have done the 6 months of dieting and the psych eval. The time is drawing near. I am getting a little nervous, but not enough to back out!!!! I am 40 years old, 5'9" 285 lbs. I hope to get down to 190. It is helpful to read this forum and know there is support out there.
