Perth Bandsters - your stories & successes

Hi Everyone Thought I would update! I was banded by Dr Dolan in November 2008 and so far I have lost 25kg. I have a 12ml band and I think I have about 10.5cc in it. I love my band and the control it has given me back! I cant eat much, normally 1/2 cup of food, but it took me a very long time to get restriction as my doctor didnt want to fill up the band too much. Hope everyone is having success. xo -
5 month check in..should I be disappointed?
perth bridetobe posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Everyone Went to the doctors yesterday, I have lost 18kg in 20 weeks (this is including all the pre-diet work , op, etc). Should I be a little disappointed? I have a 12ml band and I have about 9.8 in it I think - I have restriction but not that much ! My surgeon is amazed I have that much in there! The weight is coming off soooo slowly. I have tried opti fast again to hurry it up and currently on isowhey. I go to the gym 4 times a week (on a good week, lets be honest here!) . I know that a kg a week is normal, but I havent had any of the big losses that I was hoping for, and hear about! I know 18kg is a lot, but I think I have lost it from my big toe, because I am still in the same jeans (baggier sure, but still size 20!!) Thats enough of my whinge. Would appreciate your *honest* replys Bride to be (nov 09!) -
Ladies from Australia I need your help ! I was wondering if you knew your round about weight when you went down in clothing sizes? For me, I started at 122kg in a size 20 Now I am 101 I am fitting back into a size 18 I am desperate to know when I could hope to get to the next sizes - 16, 14 , 12 , 10 !! I know it differs for everyone any help would be great. These are 'regular' sizes, IE Jeans West Jeans... I know in the bigger shops I am a size "14" jeans (City Chic) even though I am size 18 in Jeans West Jeans. Im starting to get very excited at the prospect of fitting into REGULAR clothes from REGULAR shops! All help will be appreciated!!

For him, and also his dad had a slip (not a great coincidence) , everything that went down came back up, even fluids. They tried removing all the liquid from the band but it didnt help. Unfortunately, my partners wasnt diagnosed as a slipped band so he remained in this state for over a week , on drips in the hospital to keep hydrated. It was really scary. He lost a lot of weight and looked terrible. The reason your band can slip the surgeon said, is eating far too much, too quickly, which causes not only the pouch to stretch but also induces vomiting. He had surgery and the band was repositioned. He has had no problems since, and has been slowly getting filled back so he has some restriction. -
Hi Everyone Was wondering if anyone knew how many grams of Fat, Protien, Carbs & Fibre us Lap Banders should be having? My calories are around 700 per day, but would be interested in any info relating to Protien, Carbs, Fibre & Fat. Its best for me to try to avoid Carbs thats all I know! Created by MyFitnessPal.com - Easy Calorie Counting

My partner had a slip, it meant he couldnt keep anything down for months (and we didnt know that much about slipped bands then). I would say your vomiting is because you are eating too much too fast. Getting hungry is definately a sign you should talk to your surgeon about another fill I think  -

Optimal Carb/Fat/Protien Ratios?
perth bridetobe replied to WDW Luver's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would love info on this as well! I currently have about 700 calories per day but am wondering how many grams of protien, fat & carbs to have. Carbs are bad for me so i really want to monitor them ! Created by MyFitnessPal.com - Free Calorie Counter -
Any sort of crisp or chip is a slider food for me. But they were my worse problem pre-band, so I just have to be strong. The more weight I lose tho, the easier it is getting! I am relatively new to this also so I just think of slider food as anything that can slide through my band and not stay in the pouch - chocolate, icecream, yogurt, soft drinks, chips etc  If its a problem to eat, and takes my full 20minutes it is good! Hey there, good luck with the liquid diet. I too was lucky not to have to do it for so long. Maybe think creatively and see if you can get those foods you are craving into liquid forms.. Craving chocolate...go and have a nice hot chocolate at a cafe (this helped me a lot , it was like I was returning to the 'real world' ) OR if you are craving real foods, get creative and make some fantastic soups and then blend and re-blend until it is the right consistency. Stick with it , it will definately be worth it and will also give you a massive kick start to your weight loss! Good luck Created by MyFitnessPal.com - Easy Calorie Counting

Hi Everyone Well I havent wanted to go on here since I went and got my last fill last week but I am being brave today. I went to the doctors last week as planned, and i had PUT ON 4kg. I was devastated. Honestly, I couldnt believe it . I was so mad and upset I could hardly speak to the doctor, the one I had been telling for so many months that i did not have enough restriction. He said that at least 2kg could be fluids but I looked him in the eye and said, sure 2kg could be but I have a lap band I shouldnt be putting on (at least) 2kg in 2 weeks!! He put in another 0.5 which was good as he had only been putting in 0.2. So now I have 10 mls in a 12 ml band. Good News Now... I am restricted! FINALLY! I have been waiting nearly 6 months for this to happen and I am so happy (but oh so worried it wont last. Its been a week so hopefully this is it I am here and my band has finally started working!). It has been so hard to read all the posts about minimal eating, restriction, great weight loss and know that something is just not right ! My next step is to work out how far to take this (since none of the fills have really helped) This is what I am eating in a day (today!) Breakfast: 1/4c yogurt and half a banana (this really didn’t fill me up tho so ½ hour later I had a snack – I am not concerned as I have been reading that yogurt is pretty pointless as it slides through the band). Snack: 1 x Vita Brix with tomato and avocado Lunch: 1 x Vita Brix with tomato and avocado, ½ banana, ½ apple Dinner: (Going out to a Thai Buffet but I will only have a small amount) Is this good??? How do you know when you have enough in the band? Should I try for 0.2mls more? Do you need to overfill to know your limit? Thanks from a much less disappointed lap bander! -
Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Pls help ! Need a mentor ! Western Australia
perth bridetobe posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi I am 26 (nearly 27!) years old living in country western australia. In desperate need of someone to help me on my journey! I started at 122kg in November 08 and today I weigh about 105kg . I have always been overweight, somewhat due to polycystic ovaries, some due to plain laziness. My goal is to get down to 60 something. 69.9 would do! Im not happy with my weight loss so far. I am getting married in November 09 so I have that added pressure, happy joy. Would love to be adopted. -
Just wondering if anyone out there has a 12ml band? I was banded by Kevin Dolan in Nov 08, and am yet to find my sweet spot. I think I have about 9.8mls in there which Dolan is surprised about - that I can even eat or keep anything down at all. But I can.....like that hot cross bun I just ate! Anyone with a 12ml band I would love a comparison!

Sweet spot - 12ml Band ?
perth bridetobe replied to perth bridetobe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Tas! Fantastic that you have a band like mine! Dolan is great, but I am in the country so I dont see him much. I am getting my doctor today to do a complete unfill and then fill it back up I think some has leaked out or maybe we got our calculations wrong. Hopefully I get more added today. 17kg since end of January is fantastic! -

Hi everyone! Had another fill 2 weeks ago... and I think Ive put on 1-2 kg. ARGH! This was over easter but still, I can still eat too much. But in the last couple of days I have been really restricted (1 sausage and a tiny bit of mash for dinner last night - this is so fantastic for me!) Anyway another fill with the doctor today. I think only .5 - .3. I hope he does it, he is definately a wary doctor but if I am not loosing weight (and putting it on) I need more restriction! xox -
Hey guys - I think hiccups are a sign of overeating , your bodies way of letting you know you have had too much / too far (not sure of this ) but I got them yesterday and found the BEST cure on line. (I had them 3 times yesterday and each time fixed them with this): The 30 Seconds Cure[1] Start by inhaling through your mouth until your lungs feel full (when it feels like you cannot inhale any more). For overall best results, try to do this as quickly as you can. DO NOT LET ANY AIR OUT. Swallow. You are not really swallowing anything but it seems thatwithout this act, it doesn’t work. DO NOT LET ANY AIR OUT. Now inhale some more. You don’t need to inhale a lot, but do get some more air in. It will start to get difficult to do this as you go, but keep trying. You obviously can’t suck in as much air as you did initially, but just a little will do (think of it as taking a “sip” of air). DO NOT LET ANY AIR OUT. Swallow again. This too will start to get difficult as you go. DO NOT LET ANY AIR OUT. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you cannot swallow again. While it seems you can almost always suck in just a little more air, it is the swallowing that gets to be impossible. When you feel like you cannot swallow again, swallow again anyway. It will be hard to do, your face will probably turn red, and you may make squeaking sounds. But you CAN swallow one last time. By this time, your lungs should also be quite full and it should be difficult to get much more air in as well. While you should try not to let any air out, if you have really repeated steps 3 and 4 as many times as you can, you probably will end up letting a little out before you can take that last swallow. If you find that air keeps escaping out of your nose even early in the process, try squeezing it shut with your fingers. Exhale. Hope it works for you too.
