  1. Congratulations ! It will be here before you know it and you will be losing, losing, losing! I had my surgery in NY, with Dr. Ren on 1/12/09, I feel great and am loving entering into this spring weather 40+ lbs lighter, and know that I will keep it up until I meet my goal. Good luck, keep us posted!

    Nsv!

Today I had a huge NSV! I went to Talbots to get some spring clothing...for the last 12 years I've had to go to the 'Women's Section' and was wearing up to a size 20. Today I realized that the women's section was not working for me, and I went to the regular section. I tried on a size 14 dress, and to my utter surprise, it was loose! I really thought I was trying it on just to see how much longer it would be before I might fit in it! After that, I went to Ann Taylor and tried on several pairs of size 14 pants! I didn't buy anything yet, but will be shopping again tomorrow!

    I'm banded!!

Congratulations and good luck! You are so lucky to have your wife going through exactly what you are going through! Keep us posted!
  4. You are doing great! I lost weight on my 2 week preop and then the first week after surgery. Things slowed down until my third fill, which was 3 months after surgery - I think I've hit my sweet spot now, as ( need to change my ticker actually) it is coming off every day! I am also now going to the gym 5 days a week, which is great for me!
  5. :smile:Today is my favorite day since being banded 1/12/09!:smile: I made it to 'onederland'!!! It has been 10 years since I have been in 'onederland', and it feels good to be back. I am vowing that I will never leave! Yahooo! What a day!
  6. WorkingMom

    starting from scratch!?

Wow sounds like you have had quite an ordeal - - but wow, 70 lbs! You won't let yourself gain it back! Keep on track and come on line if you feel out of control You CAN do it!

    I am proud of myself...

Congratulations! I love your post! Good for you to be active on your week off, and wow, yest was a great day for the zoo! Keep up the great work!
  8. What a crazy thing! Several months ago I wouldn't have noticed, nor cared, but this week, this week, she took my scale home to her house so she could weigh her luggage before flying to Brazil. Hello? My dh told her it was fine. Normally, I probably wouldn't have cared, but I have been sick this week and haven't been going to the gym, so it is two fold, I could have weighed myself at the gym, and also, I really want to be careful as I am not burning as many calories on the treadmill, etc.! The other thing is that we are going away tomorrow night and I sent our luggage via UPS to the hotel so I don't have to deal with it and the children - - normally I would have weighed it before UPS picked it up, but no...no can do without a scale. The last point is, I would like to weigh myself before going on a vacation - - doh! no need to respond, just needed to get that rant out.
  9. Hi, I think you are doing great, but do remember when I felt that most of my weight was lost pre op. I talked to my surgeon about this, and once she found out I was working out, and really doing a tough work out she told me to not focus on the pounds, but to put on a pair the same pants once a week. She said that someone 200 plus ( that was me) is gaining a lot of muscle, because it takes a lot of muscle to work out a 200 pounder.. I had surgery in Jan and have only lost 36 lbs. I was somewhat disappointed for a time, but now I am looking at the longer term goal and I see my body transforming before my eyes. Keep eatting healthy, keep working out, and definately once you hit the sweet spot you will lose more! I am impressed at your weight loss to date!
  10. I went to a top center in NYC and from my consult with the surgeon ( after my 6 month medically supervised diet) I was given a surgery date 6 weeks out. It probably would have been less had it not been around the Xmas/NY holidays. Six months does seem far - - are you comfortable with any other surgeons/centers in your area?
  11. WorkingMom

    Two pounds short this time

Wow, do what you have to do, but isn't it crazy???

    Surgery date of 5/18/09

Welcome! You must be so excited! I went to NYU, to Dr. Fielding's wife, Dr. Ren. My surgery was in January 09, and I am so happy that I did this! You will be too! Keep us posted if you have questions before surgery! It will be here before you know it!

I know I already posted one, but I have another one that happened last night. I am packing for a trip to florida and pulled out my summer clothing -- it was all too big! In the past, it was usually all too small and it would put me in a tail spin, now, no problem, I'll just buy new! Woo hoo!
  14. Very funny about the haters being the first to notice! Someone that works for me, she had applied for my job before I got it, was the first to notice! She said in a very snarky tone - you are shrinking - - I looked at her, and she said, I mean that as a compliment! Oh well, not doing it for her, but of course it makes certain people uncomfortable to see one lose weight - Others don't say anything, and it is just as bad!
  15. The first 2-3 days were difficult for me, but...I kept with it, and next thing you know it got easier. I did have a glass of champagne on New Years Eve, but other than that I didn't cheat - I started my preop on 12/29. Once you realize you are so close to surgery and that you can jeopardize the surgery and or make your recovery that much harder, it is easier to stick with it. As for liquids post surgery - well, that was the real easy part for me, as I had no interest in eatting for at least 10 days. No interest at all. Hoping you get through it - you can do this! You can!
  16. I did 2 weeks of Protein shakes. I used Optifast and slimfast. I could have 5 a day. It was very hard the first 2-3 days, but got easier. My surgeon told me my liver was 'tiny tiney' on the day of surgery! Good Luck!
  17. Good for you for admitting this. Now, call your Dr. and tell him/her what you have done. He may decide to push it out another week. Understand the reason for the preop diet is to shrink your liver, which sits over the stomach. If the liver is too fatty or large, it makes the surgery more difficult and the recovery tougher. You can do this. You CAN! Call the Doc now!
  18. I go to the gym at 4:50 am everyday so that I am there for the 5:00 am door opening. I have been very focused and have been upping my workout intensity and duration the last 10 days. Today I was ready to really push, and ugh, I discovered I left my ipod home. I don't have the time to go back home, as if I did, I'd risk the chance of running into my 6 year old twins, and then I'd be pouring Cereal, etc. (DH is with them at that time, but if I showed up, it would change everything) I also have a 7:48 am. train to catch, so even 10 minutes throws me off. It is so weird how I just felt defeated and not able to have a 'great' workout. I choose not to run, but instead did the eliptical and weights, but aw...I am still feeling bummed now! Tomorrow is a new day, and my 3rd fill. Can't wait!
  19. It is odd, I am usually someone who wants all details, etc., however, I am not overly interested in how many cc's are in my band. I never thought to ask, just as I never thought to ask what type of band was being put in. I trust my surgeon, I am losing weight, and whether or not I have a lap band or or a realize band or if I have 4 cc vs 8 cc's there isn't much difference in how I should expect to use the tool, right?? I did learn that I have a realize band the last time I had a fill. Is there anyone else out there who usually is right on all the details, but just doesn't feel the need to know everything about the band, or am I the odd duck?
  20. Vegas Mom, I had similar fears. I had problems with my anethsia during my gallbladder surgery and slight recovery problems when I had my c-section for delivery of my now 6 year old twins. I made sure I talked to the anesthiologist(can't seem to spell today) who would be in the OR with me before my surgery. He really made me feel comfortable, and I felt better knowing that he knew my issues. I did find myself preparing some of my personal business in the event I didn't come home from surgery! This was not all bad, as things are in order - our will is updated, my papers in order, etc. It also made me appreciate everyone at home when I did come home the next day! My recovery was easy - I was walking the night of surgery and really recovered with NO issues. I feel great now, my surgery was 1/12/09. I have lost 32 lbs and am now running up to 6 miles a day! My children and husband have a healthier, happy mommy, although my weight didn't really get in my way of playdates, etc. I am feeling a lot better at all events, and know that it is only going to get better! Good luck with your decision! I am SO glad I took the risk!
  21. Hi, I was thinking about you today ( I visited your blog last week and really enjoyed it - it wasn't that long ago that I lived in NYC and went to many of the places you mention). I also think you are not taking in enough calories. I am seeing that it really is important to take in the right amount or things stall. I think that early on, one can really decrease their calories with positive effects, but once you have muscle and are leaner, it is so important to fuel your body. Also, when I've noticed my scale stall I shake things up - eat differently and do different activities - change from running to biking, etc. I think our bodies get in a routine and fight to stay at the weight we are at. I have a long way to go, so I will most certainly encounter this again. We have the same Dr. - have you talked to her about it? You can do this for May 5th ! I know it!

Running out of time on the gym treadmill ( 30 minute timelimit) before I run out of steam! Woohoo! It feels great to NOT want to get off that treadmill!

    Hows everyone doing?

So glad to find this thread! Many of us are really at similar points and weights! I am thrilled with how things are going - there were a few weeks there that I was getting discouraged, but after my second fill and once I really got going to the gym things started happening! I am now running 3 miles on the treadmill everymorning at an 11 minute mile pace and am feeling GREAT! My clothing is the real test and wow, I am throwing things away weekly! I go for another fill this Friday and think it will be the charm! I am hoping to hit 'onederland' by 4/20. I have 8 pounds to go!
  24. WorkingMom

    I resisted!

Excellent! It is so hard to not pick on the kids food/leftovers! Way to go ! Keep it up!
  25. It has been slower than I had thought, but wow, I am down 30 lbs since my 1/12/09 surgery. I feel great! I am running 3-5 miles 5 days a week and am fitting into clothing that I haven't worn in years! I am 11 lbs from "Onderland" and obviously have that as my next goal. I love my band and how it is helping me get healthy and energized again!
