1 month post op and loving it!!!!
neworleanslady replied to neworleanslady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think I was really hungry those first couple weeks. Once I was able to start full liquids I stayed full longer. And then on solids a few bites and I was full. I get less calories now eating solids and being full all day then when I had liquids and was hungry. I am almost at 40 pounds and it hasn't been 2 months yet. My Dr told me to be sure I get 50 to 70grams of protein in everyday and I will lose weight. so far he has been right. I can't wait to get to 100#'s!!! -

Congratulations on your amazing weightloss. Did you notice your appetite increased overtime? Everyone is telling me the first six months is the best and then your appetite returns somewhat, at least. Did you ever have a problem with vomiting and if so did it go away with time? I had my sleeve done 2/18/09 and I am so happy with the weigthloss so far. Wow, 100 pounds is incredible! Keep up the good work! -

I am 5 weeks post op and have lost 30#'s. The first 3 weeks were hard for me but since then I have been breezing through. It is so easy to lose weight right now but will there be a big change coming in six months? I love getting rid of clothes every week b/c I assume this weight is gone forever! What changes at 6 months? Is it the amount of food you can eat or your hunger increases or both? -

Yes, I was hungry at first. Liquids just don't keep you full b/c the stomach dumps them so fast. Once I started on full liquids it was better, and then on solids it is great. Seriously, two or three bites and I am done. That has never happened to me before. So just prepare yourself for a hard couple of weeks and then much much better! I would eat potato soup nearly every day and that helped a lot. Then smoothies (high protein) and that helped. You can do it. I thought I wouldn't make it through but here I am and I am so glad I did it. Not much longer for you, good luck. -
I made to the 1 month mark! I lost 23#'s!!! The first 3 weeks were hard and I was hungry often but since I have added solids, (even though they are soft solids) I get full after a few bites. But be careful, if I don't chew it very well I will vomit. Sorry but that is the truth of the matter. I can't believe that I am not hungry, it is a wonderful feeling. I strongly urge anyone uncertain of the sleeve to check it out. It is a great tool. Thanks for the support that I have received from everyone here.

I am 11 weeks post op from Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Sounds like when I am off the liquids and eating proteins I will stay full longer. I don't ever have juices or sugar drinks - ever. So that is not the issue but I think liquids just get dumped so fast that they can't keep me full. On the Optifast diet I could substitute a protein bar for a drink and it was so much better. Anyone who has had this surgery please tell me at what week were you able to move to solids. According to my program it won't be until 8weeks. I want to be safe and not risk my staple line but does it really take 8 weeks to heal and move to solids? -

Good to hear, because my scale is stuck. And I am hungry often. I hope once I move to solids I will stay full longer. I think I get more calories and carbs b/c of the type of foods that I can have(soups, broths, smoothies). I am three weeks postop and still on full liquids so I guess only time will tell. Getting frustrated though. -

Turbinado sugar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Turbinado sugar, also known as turbinated sugar, is made from sugar cane extract. It is produced by crushing freshly cut sugar cane; the juice obtained is evaporated by heat, then crystallized. The crystals are spun in a centrifuge, or turbine (thus the name), to remove excess moisture, resulting in the characteristic large, light brown crystals. Now I see why she said leave off the turbinado. Who needs the extra calories? I already hungry enough without drinking the calories away. -

It is not head hunger. Because when I do have something a little thicker like pudding or yogurt I am full. But just having the clear liquids leave me shaky and with a headache.(No, I am not diabetic) I am not going to risk my health by moving ahead too soon but I can't be the only person to be feeling this. What are other people eating/drinking that is acceptable 10 days out? Am I that much of a wimp to complain about this? I am looking forward to starting the high protein smoothies, that will be a treat. But I overheard the nurse practioner telling someone to add an extra scoop of protein powder but be sure to leave out the turbinado. Why leave out the turbinado? -
I am one week post op and starving to death, okay not really but I sure feel like it. I can't take anymore broths and getting very tired of SF pudding. What else is there?

It is great to hear how wonderful you are doing. I have been having trouble logging on lately to this site in the last couple of days. Don't know what that is about. So what are you eating? Broths just are doing it for me. I don't know why but I am hungry shortly after eating. And I don't need to eat a meal over 30 minutes. I usually just have thinned potato soup and eat it normally without any problem. I hope that is not a bad sign. When will you progress to more solid foods? I hope once I start solids I will be more full and stay full longer but I think I have a few more weeks to go. Keep up the good work and congrats on your weight loss! Yeh!!! -

Hi Nevergoback, Haven't heard from you in a while. How are things going? How is your weightloss? Are you tolerating any solid foods? Are you hungry or satisfied most of the time? Just your overall well being? -
I was sleeved on 2/18 and know for sure it is more than just head hunger b/c I have been on liquids for a week now. And I still can't eat anything more than thin soup or SF pudding. Tonight I had some potato soup and filled up quickly so that was great. I can't wait to start heartier foods in small quantities. Liquids just don't stick around long enough and clear broth gets old so fast. Good luck and keep me posted on your progress.
