mattie7632 replied to beckyrlnd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

HONEST-Post Op Diet Success
mattie7632 replied to JAMILLAH E's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, you really explained that perfectly. Feeling full in your chest, but not your stomach. Well at least not full like we are used to. My stomach feels "satisfied" while my chest feels full, for a few hours and then I'm pretty hungry again. I guess that's how it is for skinny people though! -
I think I am going to make a post and take a poll to see who is "accident prone" LOL!!!
-
Amber - my surgeon said that a side effect of being tubby is "accident prone" LMBO, which I am. So, I guess the moral of the story is.....we are going to get less clutzy!!! You think it's possible? I'm having my doubts personally.......

Wow, that's genius. If I still needed to quit, I would so be getting one of those!

Banded 12/28, finally feeling better
mattie7632 replied to willbehgb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 12/27. I still have some gas feelings in my chest. I have been starving all along, but I started taking protein shakes earlier this week to curb the appetite, even though I was supposed to still be on clear liquids. I pretty much feel back to normal, but I get a heaviness in my chest at times, I guess it is gas or just too much protein shake sitting there. All in all, I feel fine. -
Wow, who'd have thought? An electronic cigarette!! Where in the world do you get such a thing? I've never heard of this or seen it anywhere.....but then I'm living in the dark ages.....
-
Sounds like you're doing great! I am one week post-op, down 16 lbs (7 post op) and not too hungry. Just eating soups and protein shakes mostly. I am super tired these days. I assume it is anesthesia and lack of calories. See the doctor tomorrow for one week follow up

Pre op diet...I keep cheating
mattie7632 replied to JessicaA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like that idea of the Protein powder in the broth. I may try that, having a hard time getting all my Protein drinks in. Yuck. -
What have you lost...
mattie7632 replied to LapBandBobbi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Almost a sperm whales brain! (15.5 lbs) in less than 2 weeks! -
I think you took my post COMPLETELY wrong, I was simply saying, you know what you need to do and you'll do it when you're ready. Why would I judge you, we're all in the same situation here.
-
I used to smoke. I lost my job in early 2007 and knew that I would just sit at my computer, searching jobs on Careerbuilder, drinking coffee and SMOKING all day. So I made the decision right then to quit. Haven't had one since. The decision was made in my HEAD so it wasn't hard, not at all. I've never looked back. The point here is, if your HEAD is not ready, you are not ready. Whether it be to quit smoking, get banded, whatever. I know you didn't put your post there to get lectured by others, you already know what is right and wrong. All you have to do is decide if you are ready. When you are, you will do what you need to do and it'll all work out.

I won't lie, I definitely felt I was having second thoughts, said to my husband a time or two "what am I doing?".....but now that I'm 6 days post op, I feel practically normal except I'm 16 pounds lighter, and I realize that it was all fine. We will still be able to eat the foods we love, just not as much.

BMI - Insurance Question
mattie7632 replied to sophinator's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
oh I'd like to say I'm surprised about the 32 days, but I'm not! Just wait, if/when national healthcare happens, this sort of thing will only get worse. It's already started just the average joe doesn't realize -
3 Days until Surgery & Im an Emotional Wreck!
mattie7632 replied to Miss A's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was definitely pretty crabby getting closer to surgery, I figured it was a combination of watching everyone eat while I was hungry, and general nervousness for the procedure. It's probably normal. Just wait, a week after surgery you'll feel a whole lot better. -
Pre op diet...I keep cheating
mattie7632 replied to JessicaA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One thing I will continue even though I don't have to stay on Clear liquids anymore...is Jello. I take a cup of sugar free jello, put a little light whip cream on top and it really helps with hunger, plus it's only 25 calories WITH the whipped cream on top--Try that when you feel like you must must cheat and see if it helps. -
Boy do I hate cocky nurses like that, who just think they know everything....

I cheated on my Pre-Op Liquid Diet...
mattie7632 replied to Lil Ol Me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't allowed any food or Protein at all! Just Clear liquids ie, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, sugar free drinks and broth. So when I snatched a bite of "protein" that was cheating! -
BMI - Insurance Question
mattie7632 replied to sophinator's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hopefully your Dr. documented that you'd been sick and your weight is down as a result. Let us know the outcome! -
YES!!!! I was so starving it made me feel sick, on top of that my throat was so sore from the anesthesia that I couldn't take it, and the nurses would not give me anything but ice chips for 24 hours. That night I snuck down to the cafeteria and got some hot chocolate which helped. Although I was fine I certainly am not recommending this though. My surgery was Monday Dec 27, that horrible pain is gone now as I can take Protein drinks.....
-
The hospital I went to specializes in bariatric surgeries so they made very sure I did not get sick, put a patch behind my ear, put meds in the IV. When researching your doctor, you might look for doctors who are part of the "Centers for Excellence" and also ask about the facility's post-op care in regards to that.
-
My surgeon also told me it had to do with shrinking the liver. Your pre-op diet may depend on how much weight you need to lose and how "fatty" your doctor suspects your liver is. You will read on this forum that there are varying types of pre-op diets

I cheated on my Pre-Op Liquid Diet...
mattie7632 replied to Lil Ol Me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh yeah! That happened to me too! I was almost gagging at some smells! I cheated a weeee little bit, but try to keep it to Protein if you must since you're trying to shrink the liver. Good luck, you'll survive and be happy! -
Need a good lie for nosy people
mattie7632 replied to mattie7632's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Everyone! Great Responses! Maybe I'll just tell the chiropractor/client that my pain in the arse clients are stressing me to the point that I'm now losing weight....LOL! -
I have a few overly nosy people in my life, one of them being my chiropractor! I've been avoiding him because I know I have to come up with an excuse why I cannot lay on my stomach or be twisted like normal right now, or why I will be 30 pounds lighter in a couple weeks! This has really been causing me stress. My husdand and I thought maybe I could tell him I had a hernia repair, and am on a restricted diet right now (hence the weight loss). Does this sound believable? Or has anyone else out there had to come up with some creative reasons for medical leave and weight loss?
