Yes, I told them. They have been very supportive the whole way. They even watch out for me, if I look like I'm going to eat something they are always asking me if I can eat that because of my band. They are helping me stay on track, and sometimes that is hard with them watching. But they see the difference the weight loss has made on me. I'm just glad that i did it and would do it again. I only told my family and close friends. I do tell people that I was banded when they make a comment that I've lost a lot of weight (40 lbs.). Most people, when they find out, ask me alot of questions or want the procedure themselves so I give them my surgeon's information I have only had one negative reaction from a so called friend but I didn't let it bother me. I would tell if you want to and don't feel shy about it, you are doing it for your health and to heck with eveyone else.

Hello TX Bandsters, I was banded on February 2, 2009 and have lost about 35 lbs. I live in Elgin, TX and I don't want to drive in the traffic for a support group so I was thinking about starting one in the Elgin area. Would anyone be interested in a support group in Elgin. I am trying to get with Jerry at the Southwest Bariatric group to see if he can help set it up. I'm thinking anyone from Taylor, Gidding, Bastrop, Paige, and Giddings, etc. If anyone is interested, please let me know. My e-mail address is edwina63@hotmail.com. Thanks, Robin:thumbup:

Anyone banded Feb 3, 2009
edwina63 replied to cmaneice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I was also banded on Feb 3rd in Round Rock, TX. The first one of the day. I also am sick of Liquids and I sure don't get my protein in. I don't even remember getting a set amount of protein i need to drink post surgery. I do drink Ensure and Boost. I like them pretty well. Most of my pains are gone, only a little at the port area, mostly when I bend at the waist. Sneezing and coughing really hurts. I haven't used the pain killers, didn't really work anyway. My follow up appointment is Feb. 18. -
Anyone else Dr. Marquez in Austin????
edwina63 replied to plakeway's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello Everyone, I made it. The surgery went pretty well. I had a little reaction to the IV. I hate needles and after she put the IV in I started sweating, nauseas, and started throwing up, nothing but liquids. My DH was holding the barf bag while I was throwing up. It seemed to last forever. I have never had an experience like that before. They put me on oxygen and I finally got it under control. I wasn't scared or nervous, maybe it was something they put in the IV. Anyway, the surgery went fine. She did take a biopsy of my liver, she said it was yellowish. Anyway, i was home by 2:00. The past several days have been hard but I'm making it. Nothing tastes the same. I don't know why but I'm having trouble even thinking of foods, let alone liquids. I have been living on broths, shakes, and Water (with CL). I've never been much of a drinker through out the day so I have to work on that to get my amount of liquids in. I have a little pain at the port site but I can handle it. It is slowing going away. How long did you guys stay on the liquids, 1 or 2 weeks? Some of the paperwork says 1 week and some say 2. Anyway, I have my follow up appointment with Dr. Marquez on the 18th. Any suggestions you can give would be most appreciated. I hope I haven't talked your ears off. My first week has been positive, I have already lost 20 lbs, but all liquids tends to do that. Robin:thumbup: -

edwina63 replied to exumtam's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
:thumbup:Hello Tam, I have been mostly check labels on food. Making sure that they are low in carb. and high in Protein. I bought some of the Atkins shakes, they are pretty good. Make sure you put them in ice. I try to eat like I already have the band on, smaller plate, smaller bites, etc. It seems to be working. My only problem is getting off my butt and going for a walk. I have always had problems with exercising. Good Luck, Edwina -

Thanks Stacy, I have only a week left and I don't think it has sunk in yet. I will be getting nervious probably next Sat. and Sun. My husband and his mother will be with me that day, my son in grown and in the Air Force living in Japan. The only trouble I will probably have is the dogs. I'm sure my husband will take care of that. -

Hello all, My banding date is Feb. 3rd in Round Rock, TX. I too am on a low carb/high Protein diet. I cannot wait. My life is going to change so much after this is done. The only thing I can't get in my head is the exercise. I know I have to do it but it is hard. I guess I have to dust off the old treadmill. Thanks, :scared2: -

Hello LoneStarLoser, Yes, I thought he was great. I also loved the little food. Didn't like the fat in the viles though. Gross. No, I never worked for Dell. I worked for a staffing agency. I've been there a total of 4 years. I didn't have medical with my job. It is with Tricare so my surgery is still on. I saw it coming. With all the lay offs with the company they staffed for, it was kind of hard not to notice. I'll decided on looking for another job until I talk with Dr. Marquez on Wednesday. I don't really want to start a new one until after my surgery unless it is a couple of months out which I hope it is not. Hopefully it will be the first week of February. I'll definately keep you guys posted. edwina63 (Robin) -

Hello Everyone, just wanted to give an update if anyone is interested. I had all of my testing done on the 8th with now problems. My next appointment is on Wednesday the 14 to talk with Dr. Marquez. She wants me to bring my husband I'm guessing to go over the procedure. When I talked with Jerry I liked him very much. Hopefully my surgery won't be too longer after this next appointment. On a sadder note, I was laid off my job today to if any one knows of an opening in the administrative field please let me know. I hope everyone is doing OK. Thanks, Robin:mellow: -
Hi Everyone From Austin, TX

Hello Everyone, I haven't been banded yet but I am getting my blood work and other appointment on Jan. 8. Hopefully I will have my surgery soon. I live in Elgin, Tx which is 20 miles East of Austin. My surgeon is Dr. Marquez and I will get my surgery in Round Rock. It is good to talk with people in my local area that has been through this or will be going through it. I have around 100 lbs to lose and I can't wait to start losing it. The support on the forum is awsome. Robin:w00t: -

edwina63 replied to plakeway's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have my appointments on Jan. 8th. all of my pre-tests are that day, the blood tests, they phyc. eval., nutritian, exercise, all of it. I don't think I'll have a problem with it. My insurance won't cover the nutritian or the phyc. eval but I can cover that. Do you know if the fills are covered by insurance and if it is part of the surgery? I hope I'm as successful as you guys are. I told my Mom who in turn told one of my sisters about the surgery and now she is asking me questions about it. She was looking into it but her insurance won't cover it so she stopped. She probably weighs over 300lbs and has all the problems the come along with being that big. I'm only 250 and don't have half the health problem she does. She is going to the doctor on Jan. 8th to a new doctor so I hope she can help her. Anyway, enough for now. Thanks, Robin:thumbs_up: -
Tricare Process.. What Happens Now
edwina63 replied to delta27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, my experience with Tricare was very easy so far. I talked with my personal doctor and told her I was interested in the Lap Band. They got me in touch with the Southwest Bariatric Clinic in Austin. I went to a seminar where I filled out the paperwork and then I was called about an appointment with my surgeon. I talked to her and she submitted her letter to Tricare. I waited for about three weeks and then got a call saying that Tricare approved the surgery. I am scheduled to have all the testing done in one day, January 8th, which is my birthday. I haven't started dieting yet but will be cutting down on what I eat before I go to the testing. My surgeon said I won't have to do a pre-diet because I don't have a lot of fat around my liver. I hope it is not long after all the tests before I can have my surgery. I am very excited, expecially reading all of these posts about your weight loss experiences. Thanks, -

edwina63 replied to plakeway's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello Lone Star Loser, I went to the seminar at the Hilton near the airport. Yes, Dr. Marquez is with the Southwest Bariatrics. She is the one that did the seminar. I have heard good things about the Round Rock hospital. WOW, 52 lbs in 2 months. I hope I'm that successful. I hope none of my test will stop the surgery. I didn't have any problem getting my insurance to approve it so I hope none of my test fail me. I'm been looking at the forum for a while and I haven't seen anyone talk about the psychologica test. Is that to make sure your aren't crazy. I'm sure that it is to make sure you are ready for a life change. It really hit home today. I went for a motorcycle ride with my DH and I got so out of breath putting on my socks and shoes that I had to sit down for a minute. My stomach is so big. I'm really hoping my surgery will be in January because I'm tired of having my stomach on my lap. Thanks for answering me. Edwina63 -
