  1. i've been looking throughout the website and have noticed that the majority of people are from America, thought it would help teens from the UK to find each other... make it easier to discuss surgery, difficulties and the good parts... although... let me guess... i am the only UK teen here... brownie points to me lol...

    unlatched band

i had the same thing happen to me as itschoice. any chance they forgot to buckle it up the first time?
  3. i was banded on feb 24th 2009 and so far was okay until saturday 11th april. food gets stuck occasionally but the pain and stuck feeling generally pass about an hour after eating. this is fine. however, on saturday i ate a packet of dorritos which i shouldnt have. i threw them up almost straight after finishing them. this was at about 7pm at night. not long after that i was in extreme pain. this pain is still here even after almost 2 and a half days. i have not been able to hold down any food or liquids since saturday night. i am exhausted. on the sunday morning i went to the local hospital because i was worried that the band had slipped. they took an x-ray but said they couldnt see anything wrong with the band and that they could not 'hear' an obstruction in the band area. i know it was stupid, but i really need some advice. i haven't been able to sleep, and the pain is very intense. i have tried to take calpol but it generally comes back up. the vomit contains my stomach acid as well as the liquids i have tried to consume. any milk i have tried to drink has curdled into what looks like cottage cheese. also, the vomit has started to turn brown as of monday morning. any advice would be helpful. thanks

    Emergency advice needed...

alright, i am not long back from the hospital (yes i did go, lol) they said there was an obstruction and unfilled me. i was told the obstruction was gone and that liquid was passing through. (they had me do a swallow test to see if there was a blockage and that liquid went through) however, due to the amount of vomiting i have done my stomach and esophagus are quite damaged and i still cannot seem to hold much liquid down before i vomit. food isn't going down either. the doctors at the hospital said that there was not much they could do there that i could not do at home. my mum and i believe that if i had stayed at the hospital on an IV i would have become too dependant on it. i was already becoming dependant on it rather that drinking normal fluids. they have given me two anti-nausea medicines, no idea if they are working though. i will keep taking them just in case. so, at the moment i am still vomiting but no where near as much as before, and cannot hold much liquid down and no food. the new part, is i know have to start toning my muscles where they have wasted away from being in hospital. oh well thanks for everyones help. Claire

    Emergency advice needed...

well its now 10pm at night, i will give my surgeon a call first thing in the morning. i may be able to go to one of their closer offices, depends on where the surgeon is at the time. if not, i guess i may have a very long drive a head of me. does anyone have an idea where the brown vomit is coming from or what it is? thanks for your help and you don't sound nagging, beth (and its three to four hours drive, not 3/4 of an hour) lol

    Emergency advice needed...

i went to my local doctor, my surgeon is in birmingham and i live in bournemouth (about 3/4 hours drive) so i couldnt go see them. the band couldnt have been too tight (well i dont think so) as i had it filled for the first time about 2 weeks ago, 3ml put in, i think) may sound a bit odd but the liquids seem to be staying down if i take very small amounts and leave quite a bit of time between them. i remember when i had the Norwalk (nora) virus that ice lollies stayed down better than normal liquids so i have started to take them. i take a bit, put it in the freezer, take a bit, put it back etc. i am feeling a bit better, not back to normal or anything but a bit better. looking up the brown stuff on the internet, it seems that its gunk/bile for lack of a better term. i threw up and thought i was bleeding, when i remembered that i had eating a red ice lolly not long before, you should have seen how i panicked... lol as i am keeping a bit of liquid down and feeling a bit better (more awake, and less exhausted) i dont think calling the surgeon is necessary, if i am not totally back to normal by thursday morning i will call then, or if it gets worse tomorrow i will call then as well. thank you everyone for your help. i was really panicking when it all started happening. hope everyone else is okay with their band i will be taking better care from now on. bai

    Emergency advice needed...

i have just come back from my doctors. i was told that i am 'too well' for it to be totally serious. if it was a proper obstruction or band slip i would be in too much pain to lie on my back and allow an examination. as i cannot keep fluids down, i was told that instead of sipping Water, use a teaspoon as it is slightly less than a sip and you are less likely to over drink. i was told ribena is okay as it tastes better than water, lol. she said if nothing changes in about 24hours to call the surgery for advice. lets hope i am drinking by then. thanks for your advice.

no liquids/food have stayed down since before saturday 7pm Water will stay down for about 5 minutes if i dont take more than 2/3 small sips. any more than that and it comes straight up. if it doesnt come up straight away it seems to be stuck in my chest/just below my breasts, and will come up after about 5-10 minutes. i did go to the hospital, but i guess they were not much help. its only typical that this happens during the weekend i have off due to bank holidays. we are also meant to have family stay for a few days. thats going to be fun. however, i guess the doctor may admit me to hospital. Do you think i will be admitted? i think i need a drip to stay hydrated... thanks for everything. have you ever had any problems?

  11. hello all  i am new to the website but have been thinking about the op for ages. i have seen my doctor, but according to them i am not 'over-weight enough' to have the op on the NHS, so am thinking of paying for it myself. i like many others do not have limitless amounts of money so going abroad seems like the best option for me. just to be safe i will have my mother going with me so that i will have a helping hand with everything when i am there (i don't do pain lol, she will need to hold my hand  ). i was wondering if you could give me the names and places you had your operation, how to get in contact with them and their website address if they have one. also include those you would not recommend for others as i will know who to stay away from. who, where, when, website/contact details, price (doesn't need to be exact), what the price included. this discussion will help many more than me as i am sure there are many who are confused about going through the procedure. not the side effects or operation itself, but confused about applying for it. please post and help others :cool2:

    Recommendations for the operation

Just booked the operation. I will be banded on 24th Feb. it's gonna cost me £4950 for the op, plus travel to birmingham(Doland park) (about £100 ish). it's happening with WGA who are part of the hospital group. Steve - in the UK, and just to say i meant 'recommendation for where to have the operation'. i thought it was quite hard for people to know who to go with due to cost and what people say. fills will cost me about £125 each, and i can get them done in Southampton (i live in Bournemouth - about a 30 drive away) only bad thing, is that check-in on the day of the op is 7:00AM!!! well, wish me luck with the pre-op diet, lol. any questions regarding WGA i will happily answer.
  13. Nice to hear that dr chris and your op went well. i was wondering how you contacted him...? i am thinking of having the ?4000 op. any info would be good thanks.
