Poll: Do you still drink the protein shakes?
Joel Smith replied to ReadySteadyGo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
One can stop taking protein shakes once they reach the stage of solid foods. Instead of shakes try to get the daily intake of protein from solid food and a good whey protein powder. One can find proteins in beans, meat, eggs, dairy products, fish, fruits and vegetables, cereals, etc. My friend visited her doctor Dr. Nilesh Patel at Lap band Austin last month and consulted him regarding the drinking of protein shakes. He only suggested one can replace it with other items and can take shake every alternate day, if she wishes too. -
Suggestions Please On Best Tasting Protein Shakes
Joel Smith replied to slim2be's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Look for a brand that is low in sugar, contains no aspartame but still tastes good. You can also mix and make your own recipes of protein drink according to your taste. Try to get the daily intake of protein from solid food and a good whey protein powder. One can try Cytosport Protein Pure Performance Drink; it was suggested to my friend by Dr. Nilesh Patel after her surgery from Lap Band Austin -
Any October Bandsters!??!?!
Joel Smith replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations and all the best for the upcoming surgery. Good to hear that you got your approval. It’s difficult to get approval my sister is waiting for her approval. She has her test all done and now anxiously waiting for her date, once the dietitian says yes. She has already talked to her doctor Dr. Nilesh Patel who will do laparoscopic Lap Band procedures for her. Laparoscopic Lap Band procedure has much advantage like fewer incisions and quicker recovery times, as well as decreased chances of complications during and after surgery. Will pray for your early recovery and good health. -
A protein drink which contains 35-45 grams of protein per serving and around 180-200 calories is good for Lap Band patients. Look for a brand that is low in sugar, contains no aspartame but still tastes good. You can also mix and make your own recipes of protein drink. Try to get the daily intake of protein from solid food and a good whey protein powder. Protein is especially important following Lap-Band surgery. A good protein powder or shakes should contain less than 5 grams of fat, 14-25 grams of protein, 150 to 250 grams of calories. Choose a brand with the least amount of sugar. Jay Robb Egg white Protein Powder, Whey protein and Genisoy one can try.

Surgery in 2 days! Day surgery???
Joel Smith replied to teachergirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My friend had her lap band surgery as an outpatient basis (day surgery). She has little pain in the first two days but with pain medicines her discomfort was over and she became fine after a week. Dr. Nilesh Patel who was her surgeon helped her to lead a healthier fuller life. Laparoscopic Lap Band procedure has the advantage of fewer incisions and quicker recovery times, as well as decreased chances of complications during and after surgery. She is healthy and fine now and is busy with her daily activities. Have realistic expectations and don’t worry within a week you will be fine and will be back to your normal life. One thing you will have to abide by the new diet plan and eat accordingly and it is advice not to stretch the small stomach pouch. All the best for the new life. -
A good book to read, MP3 player when you want to listen to your favorite songs. Tooth brush, comb, a pair of comfortable slipper and a dress to wear. That will do for now.

Mindsets that sabotage weight loss progress
Joel Smith replied to MelissaMcCreery's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Interesting post, thanks for sharing. The mistakes that you have pointed out are true and we people often indulge ourselves to them. We set before us some unrealistic goals which impede our progress and health. The idea of being perfect affects all. To do too much within a short period of time overwhelms us and led to self-sabotage. -
The First rule Of Lap-Band Eating
Joel Smith replied to Dr. Duc Vuong's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
One needs to follow the diet information that goes along with the Lap band procedure instructions. First thing is eat only three times a day, no snacks in between meals. Solid foods only at meal time eat slowly by properly chewing the foods. Eat as much required once you feel full stop eating and try to choose healthy foods. Protein intake should be increased. Drink plenty of fluids or water to keep stay hydrated. Do not drink for 30 minutes before or after meals. -
How Do I Know How Much Protein To Eat?
Joel Smith replied to Dr. Duc Vuong's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
After a successful Lap band surgery my friend is very delighted with the results. She is taking care of her eating habits which helped her to be healthy. She takes 45 grams of protein daily and drinks plenty of fluids. One can find proteins in beans, meat, eggs, dairy products, fish, fruits and vegetables, cereals, etc. It is important and generally recommended to drink plenty of fluids during the day in order to stay hydrated and replace the fluid that is lost due to weight loss. Water is a good, but other drink options can also be include like low-calorie, non-carbonated liquids, such as broth, tea, and black coffee. Follow the diet information that goes along with the procedure instructions to recover soon.
