hi there!!! are there really gay people here?!?!?!?
ginabee38 replied to anninva's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had to wait because of my work schedule, but it's been interesting because it it forcing me to REALLY look at my bad habits. It is highlighting all my bad choices and really looking at what has me give in, give up and say "wtf, I'm already fat" and "what does it matter, my sugar is alresdy high"...."I mean, I HAVE to eat, right?" I think it's partially laziness and partially hopelessness. I completely lost sight of even the IDEA of being a thinner, somewhat "normal weight" adult. Until I came across an article written in one of those free magazine-type papers (by my now current surgeon), I had completely resigned myself to being fat for the rest of my life, and watching my diabetes get worse and worse. I think VSG is the answer I've been waiting for. So, if I have to wait a few months, so be it. Hopefully, by next year, I'll be waving my little flag at PRIDE! Wow, that was really fast! I started early June...first consult was June 8, but it took me all summer to jump through hoops and get initial clearance letters from a handful of doctors (pulmonologist, cardiologist, primary and endocrinologist, because of diabetes). I wasn't able to get my surgery date until September 6, my first day back at school. I wanted to have it done during thr 3 weeks I had off, with about a week to spare for recovery. That didn't happen and I was disappointed. I am now scheduled for December 23, since I can't take off now. Hoping and praying for a quick and easy recovery. I have about 9 days to recoup enough to return to work. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
Hoping someone can tell me about chia seeds

Good to know...I guess after 8 weeks, you'll be mostly healed. I'd rather be safe and wait, than get those things stuck in my healing sleeve. That sounds like a recipe for disaster! A year to lose 30 pounds and 3 minutes to gain it back! So true...I'm gonna keep this one in my back pocket if/when I feel the need to explain my reason for surgery...so true! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
My friend went out of her marriage, on her wife's encouragement (somewhat different circumstances), but she wound up really connecting with the other person and now they are separated and the marriage is pretty much done. On the other hand, all that was just a catalyst, and possibly a good thing in the end. All situations are different. Have fun, but proceed with caution. I watched a lot of You Tube videos on VSGers...one woman had the same issue...a big drive before surgery, but no drive afterwards...it did come back for her a few months later, so fingers crossed for you too! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

Ketosis - How safe is it?
ginabee38 replied to IveGotThePower's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm diabetic too...I am a bit worried about this because of diabetic ketoacidosis, but I read that ketosis is different than that. This is an article I came across...seems legit: content: content://com.sec.android.app.sbrowser/readinglist/0920215551.mhtml I'll have to read the link someone shared above, as well. Just fit in a booth at a resuraunt with room to spare!
ginabee38 replied to Bama2012's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm definitely looking forward to experiencing THIS NSV! Last weekend, I met up with some friends...as we were ushered towards a booth, I panicked a bit. I fit, but just barely. Luckily, I was with a very close and wonderful friend who "measured" her side of the table with her menu, and as it turned out to be a few inches larger, we switched. It could have been worse, but my friend was so great about it...very matter of fact. Later on, I told her about my plan to get the sleeve. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
Hoping someone can tell me about chia seeds
ginabee38 replied to Icantbelieveit's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
I love chia seeds. I can't quite describe the taste...maybe a mild nutty taste? Not sure. I imagine that I will have to wait to eat them again for some time after surgery (VSG for me) as they are very tiny and will absorb liquid. I don't even want to imagine getting those stuck in a healing stomach. I hope to add them to shakes when I start my liquid diet in December. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
Hello everyone! I'm new...pre-op from Long Island
ginabee38 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! I'm pre-op VSG on Long Island (NY) but due to my work schedule, I won't be able to have the surgery done until December 23...the day before Christmas Eve (guess I won't be eating any holiday goodies THIS year!) The only problem now is that I have waaaay too much time to worry about all the possible complications! Still, I want to stay positive. I have jumped through all the pre-PRE-op hoops (before I could even GET a surgery date), but I am still waiting for my insurance to approve me. Anyone in Western suffolk, south shore? My surgeon is Dr. Atwa of East Setauket. Anyone have him? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
Favorite Protein Shakes?

Favorite Protein Shakes?
ginabee38 replied to Ewants2shrink's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to find pre-made Premier Protein shakes in Stop & Shop in NY (specifically Bay Shore )...I think about $8 for 4 shakes. I just tried a new brand of powder this week...Syntrax nectar Protein Powder. There are 15 different flavors- so far I've tried Wild Grape and Caribbean Cooler (tastes a bit like Piña Colada). So far, I've found these to have much less of a "protein" taste and the aftertaste is pretty mild too. I'm pre-op, so I had no issues with tolerating it in my system. I like this better than unjury so far, and I think it mixes better. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -

I'm having my VSG done on December 23, so I really want to be out of the hospital and with my family, even if I'm passed out. I don't want them stressed that I'm in the hospital on Christmas eve (our big celebration...Italian-American here!). I need to stay positive that my surgery will go well so I can go home the next day. Fingers crossed! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

Tracking troubles/accountability
ginabee38 replied to ginabee38's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who bailed on tracking crappy foods. Someone above said it's sple to track, but I have always found it quite challenging (it's a very simple concept, but not necessarily easy for me to maintain the practice of tracking). I guess, from a medically safe perspective, it's really crucial to track, especially in the beginning with liquids and Protein, so we don't wind up in the hospital dehydrated. I guess this is the perfect opportunity to establish good tracking habits, so that it becomes second nature. Thank you all for your input and responses! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
Hello...just wondering if anyone improved in their ability to track food after surgery, especially with any long-term effects. I am aware of many tracking apps and whatnot, but I have struggled with consistency and accountability. If I eat something that I feel others would judge as unhealthy, then I wouldn't want to put it down. Ifeel like the only way to be completely honest would be if I knew no one could see my tracking. I know that having others see it is part of the idea behind being accountable, but for me,it doesn't work. Also, I struggle to stay committed to writing/recording stuff down. I guess I'm a bit lazy, in that respect. I know the sleeve and other WLS as well, are just tools, but have any of you with my experience made a **real change** in your tracking after surgery, and what do you feel impacted that change? I'm curious and very worried that I'm going to be one of those "people who regain all the weight back". I have occasional binges, but I feel that my weight is a combination of my low thyroid (but on meds most of my life), slow meyabolism, over eating (often beyond full, but rarely to the point of being sick), bad choices and inconsistent behavior when choosing healthy foods. Thanks! I'm looking forward to hearing your responses. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

Found a protein powder I can use!
ginabee38 replied to busybeebug's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just ordered a sample box of Syntrax nectar Protein. Last night I tried "grape" and it was quite good! Not much of a protein taste or after taste. I am still pre-op, but I'm trying out different powders now. Each package has 23g of whey protein isolate. Some of the flavors look very sweet and fruity, so I'm not sure about those. I ordered it right from BariatricPal. I definitely liked it better than unjury, but I guess I'll have to try again post-op (11 weeks away, but who's counting? ) Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
