Why did YOU get the Lap Band?

Hello everyone! I just thought it would be nice if we could all share our reasons why we got banded. I think it would give everyone motivation and also give confidence to those who need it. My reason why I got the lap band is because I wanted to be healthy. I was tired of being the fat kid. I want to be able to see my great grand children....many years from now. I want to be able to go up the stairs without being out of breath. I want to play volleyball again. Merry Christmas to you all, and thank you for sharing why you got your lap band!
  2. Hello everyone. My name is Nicole. I'm 19 years old. I was banded on December 16th, 2008 at 8am. I was reading this forum pre-op, and your posts really gave me confidence. I hope that we can share our trials, temptations and our incredible happiness together. I'm looking forward to reading and replying to all of your comments. Merry Christmas! -Nicole.

New kid on the block...or band rather.

Guess what!?!?!? On my one week post-op appointment today (12/23/08) they weighed me. I lost 15 pounds!!!!!!! In one week! Oh my goodness I was so excited to see that the band is actually doing it's job! Congrats to all who have lost weight. This is a great way to Celebrate Christmas this year. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!

New kid on the block...or band rather.

Hello again. I'm having terrible pain in my left shoulder. It's worse than the pain i had 4 days ago in my right shoulder. I know it's from the air, but seriously...OUCH! The only way it feels slightly better is if I hold it up in the air, or keep it extended. When will the pain stop?
  5. Hello Heather! In response to your post on my thread. Yes, those first few post-op days are the worst. Post-op life has been a little rough. I have a very low pain tolerance, and I'm not very good with it, so the pain has been the number one factor. The only place where the pain is quite bad is the area of skin in which my port is. The rest of the scars are just itchy.

Secondly, pre-banding, I could drink 50oz. of water everyday. It kinda sucks not being able to even finish 160z. of water in a single day. Maybe I'm afraid of drinking too much and throwing up, but it's sad. And I'm more thirsty than hungry.

Third, I'm beginning to feel lonely. I hate bothering my family everytime I drop a spoon or can't reach something. I feel completely useless whenever chores need to be finished, and I don't know. I guess I didn't know I would be dealing with the emotional baggage this early into my lap band journey.

    Thanks for listening!

    -Nicole.

  6. Hello Julie, it's nice to meet you! In response to your question. Post-op life has been a little rough. Third, I miss the texture of food. It's not that I'm hungry. I just miss the different textures of food. I'm 7 days post op and I feel kinda bored with liquids. Anyway, thank you for the question. Have a blessed holiday!
