Bandster, you actually wear it around your tricep. You enter your vitals on the website (height, weight, age etc.). You also enter how many pounds you want to lose per week. Based on that information, the bugg calculates how many calories you need to consume and how many you need to burn. The bugg monitors the number of steps you take, your exercise activity, and of course, your calories burned. For example, I am supposed to get 30 mintes of activity everyday. I'm also supposed to walk 10,000 steps. I'm also supposed to burn 2450 calories a day. If I meet those goals AND eat only 1700 calories a day, I should lose 1.5 lbs. a week. You enter your foods on the website and it calculates the calories. If your a good food journaler, the bugg will instantly help you achieve your goals. I am not good journaler, but I believe the bugg has helped me in that it motivates me to at least meet my exercise quotas.

kcmagu- what do mean by using a pouch? I bought a pair of Nike shoes so I could use the Nike + Ipod. However, I don't really care for them. There's a way to use the system without the shoes?

I'm back in. I'm going to try for 75 miles this month. Yesterday did 4.75.

Done. Hope to get in a few more miles before the end of the month. Between the intense heat and the effects of surgery, this was not my best effort...but August is a new challenge!

One month of Boot Camp & the scale hasn't budged!
openag replied to Ewiedbingcott's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Ewiedbingcott, I agree that you should cycle your calories but 900 calories is incredibly low. You should not go lower than 1200 calories, especially if you're doing a boot camp. You should cycle between 1200-1500 calories. At 900 calories, your body will hold on to the fat because it thinks you're starving. -
I'm in. I'm recovering from surgery so this will be a nice rehab goal.

Hopefully I get all of my drains out on Friday. With my drains removed, I hope to get back to the gym for some moderate exercise. My only concern is the swelling factor. I have read on several threads that swelling increased when folks over did it. I am terribly swollen as is. The last thing I want to do is make the swelling worse. Any advice? Thanks.

No, I asked the surgeon and he said I didn't need to unfill. I was quite thrilled. It wasn't the eating concern but the financial and logistical issues. My fills are $100. Also because they damaged my port once during a fill and had to replace it, I am required to do my fills under flouro. They only do flouro fills once a week and those appts. fill up quick. It will often take me 3 or 4 weeks to get an appt. These are also the reasons I've been hesitant to call now. The good news is that I'm seeing a decrease in the worst aspects of the swelling. I actually have human instead of Hobbit feet. Hopefully I can get an appt. with the ps tomorrow to remove the last drain. That way I can actually exercise comfortably. Although he gave me permission to ride my recumbent bike, the drain makes it very uncomfortable. Thanks for the advice and the kind words.

Got 3 of 4 drains out. Although I wanted them all out, 3 is certainly better than nothing. Ten days ago, I had a breast reduction and circumferential abdominoplasty with vertical incision and a little lipo. The dr. took over 30 lbs. It wasn't really by design, but when he laid me out, I had more body surface than he expected. I expected the swelling as, per my research, heavier people tend to swell more and I am heavier than most of the ladies on this board who've had these procedures. The procedures were done to assist in mobility, not really for aesthetics. However, I'm impressed by what I see hiding behind all the swelling. I really need to get the swelling down a bit. Again not so much for aesthetics as for sheer comfort. I'm so swollen that it is QUITE uncomfortable. In addition to the obvious issues, the swelling is confusing my band into thinking that I've eaten way too much, when I haven't eaten anything. I'm having a ton of neck and shoulder pain (the kind I get when I eat too much or too fast) and of course the most lady-like burping you could imagine. Walking seems to help a bit (at 1am, 2am, 3am....) but I can't really do any significant walking because it so incredibly hot outside. Sadly, I'm not Jachut who seems to thrive by running through the Outback with a 50lb pack at the height of summer. I got permission from the dr to use my recumbent bike. Hopefully that will do the trick and I will be able to sleep for more than 30 minutes (if I'm lucky) at a time. Thanks for the well wishes and I will keep you posted.

BR and abdominoplasty went well (just took forever). Relatively little pain just really, really swollen and tired. I also have horrible blisters from dressings and tapes. Did anyone have horrible skin sensitivity? If so, any suggestions? The biggest problem is that they are under the compression garment and when I move it, they become aggravated all over again. Thanks.

Thanks ladies. I will definitely try the t-shirt idea.

Loser, you and I have very similar stats. I was also banded in 9/07. Surgery weight was 269. I'm about 199-202 range (it fluctuates). I'm having a TT and breast reduction on Tues. Hopefully removing the excess fat and skin will help me reach my goal.

Congrats on your engagement! -
I'm scheduled for an abdominoplasty and breast reduction on June 9th. I have my final consult on Friday.
-
Outstanding! Keep it up!

Mrgrta, you stated that you have lost some weight on your own since the surgery. What are you doing? You can't be exercising so soon after surgery. My surgery date is coming up soon and anything I can do to help my post-surgery weight loss would be helpful. Thanks.

Looking good!

Good luck but you probably can't get it all done at once. I'm having abdominoplasty and breast reduction together. I really need to get my arms done but the doc said my surgery was already 6+ hours. He couldn't do the arms too. Although I was disappointed, safety first. Also it might be best not to be completely sliced and diced in one sitting.
