I can eat 2 to 3 oz of protein and feel great on that. I don't miss large portions at all. At times I do miss eating sushi (lots and lots) or maybe a big plate of spaghetti or something like that. You will get use to it.

I am rejoining tomorrow and I'm going to see if I can follow the core plan. I like the point plan too but I can only lose on 20 points a day which isn't much.

Stuck and can't lose weight!
juliegeraci replied to Kmacum's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are eating too many carbs. Your diet should be 800-1k calories, 1200 max. I would start your day with a protein shake or protein bar . Eleminate the granola and for dinner eat protein and vegies. Your body isn't getting enough nutrition. -
Thanks for the posts guys. I truly can tell you I don't understand the band. I was at 3.2 and I was too tight to liquids. Then I was at 2.9 and too lose, then 3.12 and too loose, then 3.18 and too loose. Now I'm at 3.23 and fine. I can do liquids fine. What is up with that. 3.2 bad, now 3.23 good.

It has taken me more than a year to get to my sweet spot again. I have had fills and unfills numerous times. I PB frequently then gain weight. I have a very fickle band. 3.2 was too much, then 3.0 was too little, then .2 was too little and on and one. Funny thing is now I am at 3.23 and haven't PBd once. I eat really slow and small bites. He said on my loose days I should just eat more and on my tight days eat less. That makes sense. I am down 2 lbs. My goal is another 20 lbs with a stretch goal of 15 more. I now love my band again. I am so glad I've been patient. I have a great surgeon too. I go in for a barrium swallow on Wednesday just to make sure things are okay.:biggrin2:

New here--questions to all banded sister
juliegeraci replied to MiamiChick1532's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I first started to lose weight I weighed 320 lbs at 5'8" tall. I couldn't walk at a rate of 2 on the treadmill. I lost about 35 lbs by omitting carbs, sugar, alcohol and walking on the treadmill. I was banded June of 06 at 282 lbs. At first I lost my hunger then it naturally came back as the healing progressed. I am an average loser at 1 lb a week. You have to be patient with the band, Sometimes it takes months to reach your sweet spot. If you are too tight sometimes it is hard to get in good nutrition. . You have to really work with your surgeon to make sure your aftercare is good. I have a very fickle band so just this week 25 months later I found my sweet spot. I havenb't been there in at least 1 year. I am about 20 lbs from goal with a stretch goal of another 15 lbs. I went from a size 24-26 to a size 16. My goal is a lose 16. I have a lot of insight about restriction because I have been through so much with my band. It can be a tricky thing to get to your sweeet spot. Sometimes I do PB but that is if I really push it and eat too much or too fast. I can't eat eggs at all unless they are hard broiled. I do enjoy all foods. I eat sashimi (sushi) but can't get sushi down because of the rice. I eat all foods including pasta and rice, just less of them. I have the worlds best surgeon who is on call 24x7 for his patients. Aftercare is really important and can get quite costly if your fills aren't covered. So make sure you take care of that. The band is a tool. You will still need to exercise and eat right. Ice cream goes down too good. Best of luck to you with your band, You can PM me if you want more details. Julie from CA. -
If you are eating 1 whole chicken breast you need a fill. I would say 2 oz no more than 4 is the norm with good restriction. There is a however though. If you are still losing on such high quantity of food it will be up to you and your surgeon to decide if you need a fill. Some people can lost on 1 cup of food. For me its more like 1/2 cup. Good luck.

I have a few suggestions. First, what time of the night is your last meal? Make sure you are eating early. Seconds I would take a daily dose of an antiacid like Prilosec, even 2 times a day would be good. If this doesn't help in a couple days I would go in for a slight unfill. How big was your fill? I would take out .3 first then maybe .2 if that doesn't help. Reflux is a sign of being too tight. Good luck to you. Its not fun I know.

I feel for you. Lapband is definitely a journey. I've been banded 2 years and am 20-25 lbs from goal. I eat pretty healthy portions. The hunger gets better when you eat solid proteins that last longer. Fills and restriction can take some time to get. Your band is typically placed empty so some people complain about normal portions and hunger rampid after they are banded prefill. Good luck to you. I hope things improve with your hubby.

Hi Debbie, the stuck sensation you are feeling is most likely restriction and swelling from the surgery. The reason why you have no restriction and am hungry is because the band technically isn't working it. It doesn't give you loss of hunger and good restriction until you start getting fills. That is typically at 6 weeks. Don't be discouraged if it takes a few fills and a few months to reach optimal restriction. You will know you are there when your hunger subsides and you are still losing and eating less. Good luck to you.

Had my port replaced last week
juliegeraci replied to lindseyann2u's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I may have to have a port replacement. I had a tummy tuck in April and the surgeon had difficulty doing the lippo around the port. I may opt to have mine placed near the bikini line. Where was your new port placed? -

juliegeraci replied to littlefroggy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
stay focused and positive. This a journey you are embarking on. There will always be someone who rains on your parade. Good luck with your surgery. -
Megan, Weight Watchers is an excellent plan. I am thinking of rejoining to lose the last 20 or so. Congrats on your maintenance and future loss.

I think I waited a week or 2 to call. It was fairly quick. -
Salsa's Summer Surgery!
juliegeraci replied to salsa1877's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Salsa, I was exhausted for about the first 4 weeks at least. You really need to take it easy and heal. If you are dizzy I would definitely call your PS. You may also be low on iron since you have lost so much blood. Take it easy. It is 3 weeks to heal with 6 months afterwards to see the main differences. -

I am begging everyone and anyone to help!
juliegeraci replied to aarial02's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Don't beat yourself up. I drink with my meals too. It does help if you can stop though. Keeps you fuller longer. Good luck. -
Looks good. Shorter hair is much easier isn't it.

Congrats on your weight loss. I would definitely talk to her about it and inform her that you still need to watch what you eat and exercise. You are doing great! Keep up the good work.

It is quite common to be around 7ccs with a 10cc band. It is your body and you need to listen to it. I would definitely go down 1 cc and see how you do. You should be able to eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food, solids first. I would call your doctor and demand an unfill. Good luck and keep us posted.

eating lots of anything Help!
juliegeraci replied to dan59's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dan, what you are experiencing is quite normal. I gained 7 lbs between fills one time. You will lose it once you gain restriction with your fills. Be patient. Sometime it takes a few. Good luck and congrats on your surgery and weight loss.
