I can't believe you can't have coffee. I had and have coffee everyday. -
i met with the surgeon today ( second opinion)
juliegeraci replied to andielmt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Andrea, with the band you just need to know that you lose a lot slower. The average is 1-2 lbs per week. There are a few people who can lose 100 bs in a year. Also, keep in mind there is maintenance with the band. You definitely need to go in for fills, initially quite a few times. Most surgeons are pretty conservative when they start filling you up. It took me 5 fills to finally have good restriction. I've had to have unfills, refills, you name it over the course of the last 17 months. I am also only down 65 lbs. Good luck with your decision. -
Empty Stomach = Nausea...Anyone Else??
juliegeraci replied to beckymein1021's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, this is quite common. You can try and ask your surgeon for an anti naseau medication. If that doesn't work take Prilosec with your a.m. food. -
I had my tubal ligation when I was 35 years old. It was the best thing I ever did. That being said, they make you sign an infertility agreement to make sure its the right decision. I also was not banded and due to my weight of 308 the surgery wasn't as easy for me. Thankfully you have lost a lot of weight and they can do it laparscopically. My incisions were much bigger than that. Good luck. P.S. Lapband surgery was eaiser in my opinion.

Why is it that the surgeons are not filling!!!
juliegeraci replied to goodtimes's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know. I would never allow anyone to fill me but my surgeon. -
Right now my focus is on maintaining my weight until January. Then I'll go back up to 3.2 where I eat like a bird. I only have 23 more lbs to goal.

Suzzie, I can definitely tell the difference girl! Keep up the good work. Your hair looks better too.

Anyone been to Good Samaratin Hospital in San Jose?
juliegeraci replied to Daleharley's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I too was banded by Dr. McKeen at Good Samaritan Hospital. The care was excellent as well as Dr. McKeen. It is also nice to have the support group there. Good luck. -
Do I eat if I'm not hungry?
juliegeraci replied to jennibee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jennibee, congrats on no hunger. If I were you I would try to drink at least a protein shake during the day. It is quite common to not have as much hunger after you get filled. You may find that after you lose some additional weight the hunger may return. -
Fred, you are doing great! Keep up the good work.

Is it normal to be naceous every 2-3 weeks.
juliegeraci replied to SheShe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, that is normal. I spoke to my doctor about this recently. He told me to try Prilosec once a day for the nausea. You may want to try that. -
LYnn, it changes the amount of fill based on non leakage. For example, I had in 3 ccs but with my weepy tubing it went down to 2.5 or 2.7ccs. It does make a huge difference when you are talking about restriction.

I heard about that from my son. That is unbelievable.

Unsure what to do or how this works
juliegeraci replied to lisa_hawaii's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh the joy of the fill wonderland. You are not alone. The band is fickle. If you are hungry an hour after you eat my bet is that you need a slight adjustment. Even .1 ccs can help that. Just be aware that you may only be able to eat more soft foods if you go too tight. -
Its a thicker solution to help small leaks in the tubing. My doctor calls it weepy tubing. It works really well. I use it.

Just starting in Utah Please HELP
juliegeraci replied to Mekalucha's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dr. McKeen is excellent in Utah. I believe he is out of Salt Lake City. You can call his San Jose, CA office and find out. He works out of both locations. Good luck. -
Losing weight too fast
juliegeraci replied to anitak33's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Tracy. Some people can lose 100 lbs and be fine. In my case, down 85 I need a tummy tuck for sure when I get to goal. 23 more lbs. -

I can eat sushi fine but not that much of it. I have an occassional beer. I have coffee every day without an issue. Check with your surgeon. Good luck. -
How do you get used to 'leaving food behind' ?
juliegeraci replied to Mrs SmartyPants's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YOu will likely PB if you overeat. Second, you can eat around the band so be careful. An example of that would be at 15 minutes you are stuffed and you wait an additional 15 minutes to finish your plate. That is a really bad habit to get into so be careful. Throw your food away or take it as leftovers. You can do this. -

juliegeraci replied to Mrs SmartyPants's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a 2 fold response. First, with proper restriction you will not be able to eat as much. You will likely PB
