Mantee, my goal is 185 and I'm currently 218. I have about 32 lbs to go. My goal is to maintain during the Holidays then get a fill in January. Last time I was at 3.2 ccs I was able to lose 6 lbs in 2 weeks. Right now I just want to maintain at 2.9 ccs. Good luck.

Lauren, I love pork ribs. Good job on the weight loss!

Restriction Days After Fill...Is This Right?
juliegeraci replied to justwant2lose's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, it is very common to have a fill kick in days or even a week later. -
i feel really bad about what i ate today
juliegeraci replied to andielmt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Jachut. Make sure you eat your protein first followed by vegies then starch. Your diet doesn't look too bad if you would just add in a vegie or 2. -
Kathy, you should always consult with your doctor. However, My doctor said I could have anything that fit throug a straw. Creamy soup was the first thing that kept me full. It is milk based so it helps with the protein and keeps you full. I also ate a ton of jello and protein shakes.

That is such a fabulous NSV. I started at a size 24 close to 26 and now I'm in a size 18. I haven't cried YET. Maybe when I hit 16 I will! Keep up the good work. The pounds will melt off. Good luck!

Always follow your doctors orders. In my case, he said that I could have anything that fit through a straw. That is why I moved to creamy soups.

Melanie, I can only consume about 2 oz at a time. If you are not losing at 4 oz I would recommend another fill or cutting down to 800-1k calories a day. How much can you consume? 1 cup, 1/2 cup? For me protein is most important. I always start my day with a protein shake to ensure I get enough in. Good luck.

Twiggy, if you are starving try some creamy soups. With the milk as protein and the consistency it really filled me up. Good luck.

Just a few questions
juliegeraci replied to Jillbeme65's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Jill, see comments inline.... If I have a bump on my arm I constantly touch it or pick at it... is the port going to be something that is noticed easy? I hate to write that but that has been one of my concerns. No, I cannot feel my port. The only time I can is if I lie down and search for it. It is under muscle I believe. What happens if you really really get hungry? I get hunger pangs. Do you miss food during the liquid diet and how did you over come your desires? Yes, I missed food. I was able to have anything that fit through a straw. That being said, creamy Soups really helped me early on. The milk you use in creamy broccoli for example is a good source of Protein. Plus they are thicker soups so it really helped me. How long before you felt that the lap band was apart of you? I felt like it was a part of me pretty much from the beginning. You don't have much restriction so it really did take me 6 months to get the right restriction level. That would probably be a better guess is at 6 months when I knew when I had to stop eating. In other words how long before you felt normal? I have felt good for a year now. I do PB sometimes but I am fine with that as it is really part of being banded. Do you get to eat steak or anything like that on occasions?? I eat everything, just not much of it. I can eat steak, chicken, tacos, spaghetti, everything. Just like a bird though. Make sure you follow the post op diet to the tee. It is very important for healing. -
I remember how excited I was a year and a half ago. Enjoy the ride!

Katz, there are 2 types of too tight. Too tight to liquids and too tight to solids. If you are tight to liquids that is bad. If you are tight to solids and don't mind softer food and can still lose you may be okay. If you can consume 1-3 oz of protein without a problem you should be okay. In my case, it takes me really eating a softer diet to lose. I hope this helps.

feeling like this is stuff and nonesense
juliegeraci replied to lainee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
lainee, until you have good restriction the band isn't working. You are not a failure. -
Katz, what you are experiencing is good restriction. Try and stick to just a couple oz of lean protein followed by a vegie. 2 sausauges is about all I can eat as well. Good luck.

How close to goal to you have to be to get a tummy tuck?

will i gain weight when i advance to next phase in my diet?
juliegeraci replied to andielmt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Andrea, a bandser typically eats 800-1k calories. Not sure if you are losing on 2k calories or not. If you are good job. If not, you should decrease. Yes, I gained 7 lbs in between fills. -
Spent the night in the hospital...(not band related)
juliegeraci replied to blahblahblah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Rain, I am glad it isn't band related. Probably a good thing that you found out about your heart. Glad you are okay. -
Should I have a slight unfill or wait a full week?
juliegeraci replied to LovingWhatIs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi There, if it were me I would wait it out for the week to see how you do. My doctor told me there are 2 types of tightness. Tightness to liquids which is really bad and tightness to solids. If you try solids and PB then move to a softer diet and lose it will be your decision on whether or not you want an unfill. You can lose on a softer diet ie. cottage cheese, cheese enchiladas, etc. but may have difficulty in solids. It really is your preference. I prefer to lose and eat a softer diet at 3.2 ccs. Julie -
I actually found the Oprah show today very motivating. While the weight loss challenge people didn't have WLS it really motivated me to lose the extra 35 lbs I have to lose. I am going in for a fill soon! Who else enjoyed it?
-
Derry, so sorry to hear about your loss. Yes, my doctor did a swallow test after surgery.
-
Yes, I can totally feel my food go through. Especially if I drink while eating.

What's Good to Eat after the Post-Op Diet?

Thank you for the post. -
Oh but so ready to become a loser!!!
juliegeraci replied to ThunderWheels's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome to lapband talk. The only thing I would recommend is plenty of protein shakes. Creamy soups were a life saver for me when I got hungry. They seem to have kept me fuller because of the milk used. Good luck. I want a ribeye steak! -
Lish, you have done everything you should to prepare. Just make sure you follow your surgeon's diet when you have the surgery. It is very important to follow the diet so you don't do harm to the band. Good luck.

Just starting the process
juliegeraci replied to Healthy Grandma's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Helen, getting banded was the best thing I have ever done. I've lost 65 lbs and it is the easiest 65 lbs I have ever lost. I have about 35 more to go so it is much slower now. I love the fact that I don't gain weight!
