Liz, you truly need to figure out what you want. If you do want to lose weight then you can with the band. First thing I would do is to eliminate sugar, alcohol and carbs. The 2nd thing I would do is to increase my water consumption. 3rd thing I would do is to walk 20-30 minutes a day. With that being said........if you can eat 1 cup of food that is too much! I eat 2 oz at a time and am full within a few bites. My weight loss is 1 lb a week, 2-3 with good restriction. I would really have an honest dialogue with your surgeon about what you are consuming. Popcorn and sugar go down just fine, as does ice cream. Please be honest with yourself and face the lapband music. Good luck. You can do it!

What size is your meal portion???
juliegeraci replied to hastalabyebye's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Kayla, for me 2 oz is about right. I've been banded for a year and a half and with good restriction it is no more than that. That being said, if you can consume 1/2 to 1 cup of food and still lose then good for you. Don't force yourself into 2oz if you don't have to! If you lose at that rate that is your sweet spot. For me its much less, sometimes only 3 bites. Hope this helps. Good luck! -
The breathing tube was the worst part of the surgery for me. It gave me a terrible sore throat and I had a hard time in recovery with it and had to take a throat spray to numb my throat to relieve the pain.

So cute. Congrats on your weight loss to date and your 2nd pregnancy.

Just wanted to let you all know that Oprah is having a show on Friday about this very subject. Its about WLS folks taking on new addictions. Should be a good show.

Sue, this is quite common until you get proper restriction. It took me 5 fills and over 6 months to get there. I would keep going back until you are losing, not as hungry and cannot eat a large portion of food. Good luck.

Great NSV. Good job!

I agree with Wheetsin. Also, if you can eat 8 oz of beef you definitely need a fill. I would see how you do moving forward to see if you get stuffed with 2 bites. It could be that your restriction just kicked in.

My testimony-I'm losing weight again!!!
juliegeraci replied to Crishell's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Crishell, good job! Thanks for the tip. -
I would ask your doctor how many ccs your band takes. Let me tell you though that it took me 5 fills to get good restriction. You are just at the starting point so it doesn't surprise me. I would call and ask how long you need to wait in between fills. My doctor does fills every 2 weeks. Sounds like you need another one. Good luck.

Sleeping Positions, Black&Blue marks,& Chills
juliegeraci replied to Rosie15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember that I couldn't sleep on my side a week or 2. As far as the chills go I would ask your doctor. -
I agree with Wheetsin. In my opinion it comes down to whether or not you are losing. If you can eat 1 cup of food and still lose you are lucky and shouldn't get a fill. If not, then you should get a fill. Just be prepared to only consume 1/2 to 3/4 cup after a good fill. Make sure you get plenty of protein. Protein shakes are vital for me as they give me 30 grams a day. I hope this helps you. Good luck.

As a side note, I eat everything just smaller portions. You should be able to enjoy all your favorite things.

Fill doctors in Northern CA who take insurance
juliegeraci posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Does anyone have a fill doctor in Northern CA who takes insurance? I have UHC and my doctor isn't on the plan. I live in Gilroy so anything within 40-60 miles would work. Thanks! -
yes for sure. Most bandsters eat 800-1000k calories a day.

Saying hi and freaking out
juliegeraci replied to jewelee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What you are going through is normal. I had a complete breakdown before surgery thinking to myself "what a pig, I can't believe I've done this to myself". Band surgery is fairly easy. Just take it easy the first week and make sure you follow the post op diet. Good luck! -

Your adjustment/mental to restriction
juliegeraci replied to littlelove's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Littlelove, congrats on your restriction. You will have to see how you do with alcohol caloriew. In my case, since I have 2 drinks a day I typically maintain. Good luck. -
Kittee, you are doing great. Keep up the good work!
-
Could be that it is time for a fill. You can usually have one at 6 weeks. Good luck.
-
Lori, you are doing fabulous. It took me over a year to lose 65 lbs so you are doing great. Keep up the good work!
-
Good for you. Isn't it wonderful to see the difference in your face! Good job!

Am I the only bandster not losing?
juliegeraci replied to Liz1531's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very common to eat a cup of food when you don't have a fill. You are not stretching your pouch. -
what to eat during the first week
juliegeraci replied to tremily's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you are originally banded now is the time to heal. The weight loss really starts when you start to get fills. I would go on amazon.com and search there for a good book. -
Kim, it is all about restriction girl. Some people can eat 1 cup and lose. In my case it is more like 1/2 cup. I always start my day with a protein drink with 30 grams of protein to help. Keep going back for fills until you feel good restriction. Make sure you can still eat solids though.
