eye opening experience
juliegeraci replied to jacole1820's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can only eat 1/4 to 1/2 of a small cheeseburger from McDonalds. Restriction is the best! -
Stress is not your friend sometimes with the band. What you are experiencing is sliming. It happend today to me too and then I had to PB because it got so bad. You are not alone.

Beating the ODDS 100% Goal. Help needed
juliegeraci replied to beth122's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am considered an average loser. I have losat 65 lbs and 65% of my goal weight the first 18 months. My doctor said it takes 2-3 years to typically reach goal. You may end up an average loser at 1-2 lb per week or you may lose more rapidly. It just depends on whether or not you exercise that much. In my case, I do not exercise religiously. Good luck. You can do it! -
What you are experiencing is normal when you don't have proper restriction. Bump your fill up if you can. Keep going back until you can only consume a small amount of food, have not as much hunger and are losing 1-2 lbs per week. It took me 5 fills and 6 months to get there. Good luck.

I agree with Chris NJ.
-
I would ask your doctor. Especially if he said it was really "tight". Could be that he filled it partially during surgery.
-
mlevel, I typically will wait a week or 2.
-
I can eat everything except eggs. They always make me PB.

For those with "Last Supper Fears Syndrome"

Isn't restriction the best! Good job throwing the chicken tender away. -
I was so excited. It was such a great time. Good luck with your surgery!

Good restriction...but now I gurgle
juliegeraci replied to crazy4jags's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, very common with restriction. I can always here my liquids go down with a gurgle. Food however, I don't. -
1/2 cup per meal??
juliegeraci replied to want_so_bad's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! 1/2 cup is perfect restriction. Just make sure you are getting plenty of protein. Some folks would argue that you don't get in enough nutrients when you consume 1/2 cup of food but my doctor specifically said that 1/2 cup of food is fine. Welcome to your sweet spot! -
Someone who hadn't seen me for a year....

It's My Turn Now!!!
juliegeraci replied to angelsvoice's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Angel~! You will be. The pounds will melt off after you get good restriction. Just be patient and don't be shy of fills once you heal. My doctor starts the process 6 weeks after surgery. It took me 5 fills to finally get restriction. Thankfully I lost 1-2 lbs per week during that time. Right now I just want to maintain through the Holidays. I have about 30 more lbs to go and will get tightened on 1/2. I lost 3 lbs a week when I was at 3.2ccs but wanted to be able to eat more again so recently I went back to 2.9ccs to maintain. So far so good. Good luck! P.S. I started in a size 24 as well. -
Support forum for the positive aspect of banding only
juliegeraci replied to rebandit's topic in Rants & Raves
I agree. Before I was banded I would read the other threads about complications and band and would understand the complications, etc. I also don't think all posts are positive. What is the real issue? Are you having problems already? Let us help you. -
Nessa, I have heard this happen before but it hasn't happend to me. I would ask your surgeon and maybe get an anti nauseau medication.

It's My Turn Now!!!
juliegeraci replied to angelsvoice's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Angel, I am at 218 from 282 and I'm in a nice fitting 18. My goal is 16 or 14 which would put me at 180-190ish. My doctor said 185 would be perfect. If I have a Tummy tuck and lower body lift after I get to 185 I'm sure I'll be in a size 14 or 12. You will love the band. Good luck. -
My doctor had me on liquids, then mushies then solids. My first few months was a slow process because I didn't have good restriction until 6 months out. Just take it easy, heal and wait for fills. Good luck.

body wrap as alt to surgery
juliegeraci replied to MikeC's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Out here in CA they have a place called Simply Beautiful. They guarantee 10-30 inches gone permently if you don't gain weight. They are mineral wraps that take an hour. -
It's My Turn Now!!!
juliegeraci replied to angelsvoice's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Angel, we almost have the same stats. I am 5'8 and I'm currently 218 from a high of 320. I started the lapband at 282. I am considered a slow loser but I am very happy with my 65 lbs gone. It is such a great feeling not to yo yo diet anymore. I love having control. I am going in for a much more agressive fill in January. You will find that restriction is key. You will do great. Congrats on making this life changing decision! -
Missy, it is normal to have barium swallows although my surgeon only does that when he has a hard time finding the port or if there are other concerns. What your surgeon is doing is just his preference.

All of a sudden "I'm Scared!"
juliegeraci replied to AllGirlToo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor didn't have me on a preop diet so I can't comment on that. For me, I had a breakdown just before surgery crying over how it had come to this. I think all emotions are normal. Good luck. -
Yes I have in the past. The only thing that has worked for me is the band.
-
Yes, a runny nose can indicate good restriction. Same thing with a hiccup.

Amber, what an exciting time! Good luck to you.
