How does one become a disciplined eater
juliegeraci replied to rebandit's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Truthfully, with good restriction I eat so little that I really only have a choice of healthy foods to ensure I get in all the nutrients that are required. So for me its not a matter of will power. Its more a matter of must. -
Cheesecake is the best for you so says my doctor. Enjoy!

I'm being banded 12/27!!! Can't believe it!!
juliegeraci replied to cjforrest's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
CJ, the surgery was a breeze for me. The only discomfort I had was at the port site and some slight nauseau. You can get a perscription for the nauseau if you ask your doctor ahead of time. Good luck to you and welcome to bandland. -
I take Zantac almost daily for acid reflux. Unfortunately acid reflux is a by product of being banded. I would call your doctor and see if they should administer you something if you are not sure what to take. Good luck.

Emotional Wreck even before surgery

Take it easy and be good to yourself. Make sure you are getting plenty of protein. You may also be over exercising so be careful. Good luck to you! -
Can a very tiny fill make a difference?????
juliegeraci replied to Janine's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, .1 or .2 can make a difference. I would shoot for either 1.8 or 1.7. Good luck! -
Great NSV. Good for you!
-
I would say just be prepared.

Is it just deliberate starvation???
juliegeraci replied to soozan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't starve myself. While I eat less I always hit my protein alottment for the day too. I love being banded. Its the best thing I've ever done. Good luck. -
Feel better. Ask your doctor for an anti nauseau medication. It will really help you post op.

Hi Frenchvanilla, there are a ton of people on the boards that are successful. In my case, I am considered a slow loser. I have lost 65 lbs in 1 1/2 years. I am 30 lbs from goal. I have great restriction and am quite happy. The only problem I have had is acid reflux. I take Zantac pretty much on a daily basis. That is one of the reasons I am not losing right now because I had to have a slight unfill. I feel good though because with the Holidays all I wanted to do was maintain which is what I've done. I am down 100 lbs from preop though. I lost 40 lbs on my own prior to surgery. The thing I like most about being banded is that I can eat everything, just less of it. The hunger is tolerable as well. Getting fills is really important. It took me 6 months to finally hit my sweet spot. Good luck with your journey.

NSV is a non scale victory

If I didn't like you so much I would tell you to fuck off. Happy Holidays!

Wheetsin, what you are experiencing is very normal. My heart goes out to you. While my mom was pretty supportive, she mentions now that she always sees me barfing. That is not true. She also mentioned that when I drink alcohol it reacts differently now that I don't eat as much. My mom is obese too. Funny how she has been on Weight Watchers for like 3 years and is still down only 20 lbs or so. Hopefully you and your mom can have a sit down and talk all about how you feel. Good luck.

Lapband Doctor in Alberta
juliegeraci replied to CIBCSlayer's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Dr. Davey/Birch's clinic at the Royal Alex in Edmonton. I got this off of the internet for you. Hope it helps. -
lol., that is too funny. Just think of it this way. Once you do it, it becomes easier. Shucks, I even PB sometimes brushing my teeth!
-
Fills are essential. Keep going until you have adequate restriction. Good luck.

Congrats on almost making it to goal. I have probably spent at least $1k on clothes the last 18 months.

Honesty about drinking soft drinks please ?
juliegeraci replied to TNNurse Linda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I drink an occassional Fresca. When you have good restriction the carbonation can bug your stomach, at least for me it does. -
Try and take your wife to an informational session with the surgeon. Those are really helpful.

Do you have a time table for your goal weight?
juliegeraci replied to AmberWaves's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I really didn't have a # but more a size goal. My goal was to get into an 18. I hit that at my first year mark. My goal now is to hit 16 and I would like to lose 30 more lbs in the next 6 months. That puts me a little over 1 lb per week. I'll be down almost 100 lbs at that time. I am 65% at goal right now. I am considered a slow/average loser. My goal is 185 and I'm 218 right now. Good luck! You can totally lose 100 lbs in a year. You really need to exercise though. -
Ate solid foods immediately after fills-feeling no restriction
juliegeraci replied to Mary25's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Its not the solids. Keep going back until you hit your sweet spot. Good luck. -
I have PBd water before. It does happen. I would take a large sip and wait it out until the next.

Well Hello Onderland...nice to meet you!
juliegeraci replied to mumof2boys's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That is fantastic news. I have 18 lbs to go to hit onederland. Good job! -
Personally speaking I would gain the 13 lbs and say the hell with it. You will lose that the first month being banded. Hope you get the surgery! Julie
