I started the day off fine with a protein shake this a.m. I was starving come 11:30 so we decided to go out for chinese food. I had literally 2 bites and PBd. I couldn't even have one more bite. Fast forward to this evening. We went over my friends house for a cocktail. On the way, because I was famished because I couldn't hold down lunch I decided to try beef jerky. Good for protein, correct? Yes, BUT then I PBd the beef jerky. Tonight at dinner I decided to eat really light and try some mash potatoes. No way, I PBd those too! Finally I was able to get in 2 tablespoons of masy potatoes and a little yams. For desert I mustard up enough power to get in 2 bites of cheesecake and a little ice cream. I am not too tight. This is very rare for me. Some days I can eat like a pig and other days like today I totally suffer. What is up with this fickle band? I am taking in protein shakes tomorrow and hopefully by dinner time I can have some solid protein. Go figure!

How much protein do we really need?
juliegeraci replied to MollyBrown's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I heard that 60 grams is good but if you get a minimum of 40 that is okay. Not sure how accurate that is. -
Is it bad not to want a first fill?
juliegeraci replied to Gus123's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you are losing and happy with the results there is not reason for a fill. Good job! -
Weight Watchers - any success?
juliegeraci replied to juliegeraci's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks everyone! I am joining this Saturday with my sister. I have 40 lbs to goal. My doctor wants me to get to 185 which is still considered overweight at 5'8". 160-165 is normal weight but it is really hard for me to maintaine that weight. I will have him write me a doctor's note when I reach 185 so I can become lifetime. Thanks for the tip! -
Donna, that is so fantastic! Way to go

I think I'm eating to much - help!
juliegeraci replied to Debbie P's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep in mind that if you are losing 1-2 lbs per week and eating a cup that is fine. If not, then you need a fill. Most likely at 6 weeks. Try and stick to 1/2 cup of food to 1 cup of food and 800-1k calories a day. Protein first, 60 grams a day. -
Question re. eating
juliegeraci replied to MissMom24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Shortgal. Try and get your 60 oz of protein in daily. Even if you sip protein drinks alll day long. Welcome to bandland. Isn't it great not being hungry! -
Kristin, the same exactl thing happend to me but worse over Christmas. I couldn't keep solids down on Christmas Eve. I even PB'd water! It can be caused by the stress of the Holidays. Yes, your band is fickle and yes, it can be good days or bad days. In your case, that was a bad day just like me. Today I stayed on liquids and mushies again. Pretty much the same thing yesterday. 2 weeks ago I was able to eat 4-6 oz of protein at one sitting lunchtime chicken salad. I can only take 2-3 bites now and be full. It is the life of the band unfortunately. Good luck trying to sort this out! I can bet you that in a matter of days you may lose your restriction again. Keep us posted. Julie

SequoaiHealth, my doctor has performed thousands, not hundreds of lapband surgeries. I have lost 65% of my body fat the first year. Statistically that is quite common. I am a slow loser. I lost 40 lbs preop and 65 post op the first year. I love this forum for support. Not everyone hits their goals the first year. My surgeon is very pleased with my results.
