Lost 20 lbs and...
juliegeraci replied to mrsgriffin2u's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
June 6th is right around the corner. Personally I would wait. Not so much to eat, but the sea sickness would worry me. You probably will not have any restriction early on so food consumption should not be a problem. You can also go to the doctor and give you a patch for the sea sickness. Have fun and good luck. -

I also had no problem with them. I didn't have to go through a 6 month supervised diet #1. Not sure if it was my doctor or them that needed an appointment with a nutritionist, psych eval, EKG and blood work. They approved me pretty quickly. I was out of network so that did take a little bit longer. Also, because he wasn't in network I had to pay for my fills the last 18 months because I didn't know there was an exclusion I could have fought out of network for fills. I think my copay was around $2k. Good luck. -
Insurance says "yes" and after surgery "no"

Fran, you are in my thoughts. Let me know what happens. Julie -
I am just really frustrated today. My husband was laid off due to lack of work in the automotive industry in November 07. He is an automotive Technician with 26 years of experience. We have been barely making it on his unemployment and side work. He is terribly unmotivated saying there are no jobs in his industry, etc. He hasn't looked in the industry for month. I make six figures but our savings has gone down significantly since being laid off. Living in CA it is very expensive to own your own home. He does a little side work here and there but it still isn't enough. I went so far as to hook him up with my old career counselor to work on his resume, job skills, passions, interview skills, etc. It cost $1200 but he worked on her Mercedes so it was a wash. Can someone give me some insight how to nicely motivate their spouse? I am just so frightened right now with his unemployment running out in 6 months. Any advise would be appreciated. Julie

Suzie, the vomitting could have triggered the reflux. The best thing you can do is take an antacid and stop eating 2 hours before bed. That may do the trick. If not, you will need a slight unfill. I'm sure you band did not slip. Good luck.

I do pretty good with 3.0 or 3.2 in a 4cc band. You should do really well. good luck.

.3 should work. .5 you will gain a few lbs. Take it from me, I am having plastic surgery soon and .5 was too agressive. Have fun. You will probably only gain 3-5 lbs. Good luck.

That is great news. I remember how it was for me 22 months ago. You will love being banded. Food will be so different for you. Good luck. -
Great news. I had to have a nutritional consult, EKG, blood work and psych eval. I did not have to have a sleep study however. I really hope everything goes as planned for you. Good luck.

Still losing...will they do my fill
juliegeraci replied to CarlaG's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The doctor usually looks at 3 things. Volumne, weight loss and hunger. If you have problems in one of these areas it is time for a fill. Given the fact you are doing so good however, he may opt to not fill you until the weight loss slows down. Tell him you are constantly hungry and maybe he'll give you a slight fill. Good luck. -
when can you eat meat?
juliegeraci replied to mstars's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
3-4 weeks. Make sure you follow what your doctor recommends. -
The only pain I had was at the port site. It was just a little uncomfortable. I did have some nauseau too. My doctor prescribed me an anti nauseau medication for that and I took it for a few weeks following surgery. Other than that, the surgery was very easy.

Quite possibly regretting my UCSD decision
juliegeraci replied to SanDiegoPhotog's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are plenty of Bariatrics surgeons out there. Imagine feeling like this and then dealing with after care which is quite extensive. I would research another doctor. -
Unfortunately acid reflux is a sign of being too tight with the band. Some people get it really bad at night, others through the day. There are only 2 ways to get rid of it. Medication followed by motified diet and a slight unfill. It is common.

From first visit to surgery... how long?
juliegeraci replied to kaytiebugs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't remember exactly but I think it was 2-3 months to get through the nutritionist, ekg, psych eval and bloodwork. I didn't have to have a sleep study. -
April/May plastics 08
juliegeraci replied to juliegeraci's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Hi Kat, not sure exactly what to do at home. Any suggestions? The PS did say that I need a lot of pillows which I have. Other than that I do have soft diet things in the house ie. soup, yogurt. I was told by my surgeon that you do get more restriction when you have surgery so we'll see. I think I have gained about 7 lbs since my unfill. Just an FYI. Wait until the last minute to have an unfill. I did it 2 weeks early which was a big mistake. I was PBing alot but he took me down .5ccs. So I have a little restriction but not much. I am also hungry every 2-3 hours now. Julie -
Advice needed! Lipodissolve? Tummy Tuck??
juliegeraci replied to Hello Kittee's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Hello Kittee, it sounds like you are ready for a PS consult. My goal is 185 and I weight in about 218 right now. So that puts me about 38 lbs from goal. My surgeon said I could easily lose the rest of my weight and it will not have any impact on the TT. Let me know what is happening. -

Stepping out of denial...
juliegeraci replied to Nuali's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Nuali, I remember being new here almost 2 years ago. How exciting! Good luck with your surgeon's appointment. Welcome aboard. -
A friend of mine had to deal with that. After about 12 weeks she is pain free and back to normal with good restriction. The doctor couldn't believe how big her esophogus was. Glad you are okay. Good luck with the fill.

Yes, I couldn't hold down solids. My doctor said that sometimes the stomach lining can thicken adding additional restriction. The only cure is a slight unfill. Glad you are okay.
