Looking for those of you who have dealt with acid reflux. My original symptoms were a ball like feeling but now its more like travelling ball up into my esophogus. I am not coughing anything up. I'm using Gas X strips to see if that will help. Warm tea seems to also aid. Any other suggestions? How long did yours last. I'm 10 days post op.

Did you lose weight before your first fill?
juliegeraci replied to sleepyjean's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes, I am 10 days post op and have lost 12 lbs. I am not hungry and do not know how long it will take for my hunger to come back. I plan on fill only if I feel I need one. -
God will work his grace with you as he has done with me. Congrats on your insurance coverage. Mine was sticky too and it was approved. I've been banded 10 days now and feel good. Good luck with your surgery.

:cry Have any of you ever had a "ball" feeling in your stomach? I've had it since surgery and it doesn't seem to want to go away. I've tried warm tea and that helps but just for a few minutes. I'm having a swallow test on Monday. Could it be swelling? If so, how long does the swelling take to go away. I am 9 days post op.

Hi All, I had my first post op appointment yesterday and I'm down 11 lbs. I feel good. I still have a "ball" like feeling in my stomach. So Monday he is going to do a swallow test. He didn't do that in the hospital before I checked out. I think it is swelling. Did anyone have that feeling too? Seems like warm tea is what is helping the most.

Good job. Weight loss comes in all signs including not having your shoes as tight, rings looser, even tying your shoes easier. Keep up the good work.

I call myself 5'9" but I'm actually 5'8 1/4". My goal is 175 but I would be happy under 200. I'm at 275 right now. Only 9 days post op.

I would advise to try and make smart food choices during your lack of restriction. Drink a lot of water between meals, make sure you don't drink 1 hour before meals or during. Protein will keep you the fullest. Good luck.

Shontel, I'm a newbie but I understand what you are talking about. Just being on the post op diet its been interesting. I know we are not suppose to cheat because of the healing time, but I am finding myself wanting to eat solids much quicker. The lifestyle we probably share has happened over time. Changes doesn't take place immediately, its done in baby steps. Just appreciate each meal as it comes and focus on what is healthy. The band will provide the support (more when you have restriction) that you need. Good job.

I'm in. I'm 8 days post op but I want to start exercising. That is my big goal right now. Let me know if its a go and I'll join.

Lucy, congrats on your upcoming lapband! I'm 8 days post op and feel great. You will be shocked how fast the lbs comes off on the liquid phase. Good luck.
-
Leila, congrats on your band. My gas was in my shoulder/neck area and lasted a few days. Very minimal. Post op 8 days now and I'm loving it. Good luck!

Good luck. I feel great 8 days post op. The weight is melting off.

Sorry to hear you are pin pointed. This isn't fair. We all have our weight loss journeys and that person was insensitive. Good luck.

Cindy, I am 8 days post op right now and doing the same thing as you. My doctor stated in the hospital that I will not have restriction for one month and I shouldn't worry to much about it. I feel that the weight will come off regardless, even if it doesn't start right away. Try and stay on the post op diet the best you can and hopefully you will get a fill sooner then later. Mine is at the 4 week mark. Good luck.

The Embarrassment of Being Overweight
juliegeraci replied to Tired_Old_Man's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know exactly how you feel. I was reading a book about the amazing power of grace. In the book I read that you should reach out and have grace help you in the areas you cannot help yourself. That is when I decided to contact the bariatric surgeon on my area. I went through roughly 2 months of pre op information, appointments, etc. I feel that God has placed me with the right surgeon and that is the road I needed to get on to get this in control. You are not alone when you say you feel you can't control your own hand to mouth. We all need help and we come here to support our decisions to seek it. I am now 8 days post op and feeling wonderful. I know this decision will change my life. Good luck, we are all pulling for you. -
Molly, hope you are feeling better. Try and focus as to why you had the lapband in the first place. Food will always be there. I have no restriction yet but I'm still on the liquid phase so it is harder to cheat. I really hope you are feeling better and just remember one day at a time.

If you haven't had your DH meet with the surgeon with you, please do that. I found it very helpful and he was able to see for himself and hear for himself that mobid obesity can be managed but not cured. It was really helpful for me. All of the emotions you are going through are normal. I've been banded 8 days and feel great. Best decision I ever made.

I wore loose sweats with a loose fit waist band. I went bra less because I figured I wouldn't need it.

How are you doing? I am 8 days post op. You on the liquid phase? Do you feel full when you drink liquids?
-
Hi, I am 8 days post op and I think this is the best decision I have ever made. With exercise I know I will lose this weight. I feel great. I don't have restriction yet because I haven't had a fill. I am on liquids until next week, then mushies. I can't believe how full I am, even on just 3 small meals (liquid). The weight is already shifting. Good luck with your decision. For me, this has been a true blessing.

Jennie, I feel your pain. I had joined WW for the 10th time and lost about 8 lbs up and down before I made the decision gto do this. I feel it is the best for me. With restriction and following the diet (not snacking, picking the right types of foods, limiting quantities, liquids, etc) along with exercise I don't think there is a way to fail. When I met with the nutrionist we went through all of my diet history. She said that with 3 small meals a day the band allows around 1200 calories a day. That is not even close to starvation. I am excited and feel great 8 days post op. I go in for my first checkup tomorrow and I know I have lost this last 8 days. I too was sick of the roller coaster. I believe that with this tool and lifestyle change there is nothing but positive ahead. Good luck with your decision. I was at the same place you are just 2 short months ago.

Veritas, I am 7 days post op and I cheated last night. It didn't make me feel very good so I'm back on liquids today. He told me that the liquid phase is whatever will pass through a straw. I had a little bit of lean chicken and some squash. The squash was wonderful because it turned to liquid in my mouth when I chewed. But then I had to take my anti naseau medication last night. The healing process is vital so that is why today I am on full liquids again. I am suppose to go to soft/mush food next week. The "ball" in the stomach feeling is getting better. I hear that is the sensation you get when you are full after you have a fill. Sounds like you are on the right track. Just make sure you don't overdue the foods because you will not heal as fast. Good luck.

My incisions are really small, all about my waist line. Once they heal I think they will be minorly visable. Yes, I am full on liquids. I'm 7 days post op and my stomach is still swollen. I have no hunger so I sip throughout the day. Yes, I'm an emotional eater. I haven't attended OA. I am just praying that with the restriction I will eat the recommended 3 small meals a day and H20 in between.
