Did you lose weight before your first fill?
juliegeraci replied to sleepyjean's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Maurine, yes ...some people feel restriction with just the band in place. I've been banded for 2+ weeks now and I first felt restriction but now its more difficult for me to gauge my hunger/fullness. For me, I will need a fill. For others they have had restriction from the beginning. I guess it comes down to owns body. Hope this helps. -
Does the liquid diet get easier??!!!
juliegeraci replied to Stephanie MG's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Stephanie, sounds like I could take some of his advise too. I want my weight to fall off. I lost 11 lbs post op 1 1/2 weeks later. I'm stuck right now but have my first fill on July 17th. Good luck with the procedure. Mine was a piece of cake. -
Sip sip sip. Make sure you don't take liquids down too fast. It probably is gas as well. You should know the difference between gas and hunger pains. Good luck.

I am not SURE if I am ready for this!!!!

Keep the faith. This is a journey, not an overnight thing. The band is a tool and hopefully when you get the restriction you will rethink what you are putting in your mouth. Good luck. -
Photonut, you are an inspriration. I am so proud of you. That is a huge accomplishment. I am a wee bit jealous naturally since I'm new at this gig. I just hope and pray that God will help me through this weight transition. My first fill is July 17th and so far I'm doing pretty well. Good job.

DOC, Sugar is NOT my friend woman. Please try and divert yourself to other healther choices. Once I'm on that roller coast (like the cookie dough bite I just took BTW :} smile) its hard for me to stop. Be good to yourself and keep your goal in mind. Its not worth those calories in the end. Good luck. Go girl!

A Liquid Diet this long after being banded?
juliegeraci replied to Kathy473's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
protein shake meal replacements are better for you then just protein shakes. they have more vitamins. I would look into a meal replacement IF you are going to use it as a meal. -
Does the liquid diet get easier??!!!
juliegeraci replied to Stephanie MG's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
1 month sounds like a lot to me. My doctor had 2 weeks liquids, 1 mushies, 1 reg food. In the meantime, follow what he says but double check. -
The ultrasound probably would have shown any abnormalities as well. Call your doctor and ask. In the meantime, try and ignore everyone that gives you information about yourself including your Daughter or Husband. They mean well, but you need support around your decisions. Let the professionals decide what and if you need help before surgery. Good luck.

My incisions are not high enough so I can wear a bra or sports bra right now. You may be okay after surgery.

I am just a little over 2 weeks in. When I had the band placed I had total restriction and now I'm not sure when to stop eating. Can you please tell me what "types" of feelings you got when you felt full? After a fill will I get more of that type of feeling? Thank you!:hungry:

4 Weeks since banding...no restriction
juliegeraci replied to JeannetteW's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Jeanette, I am glad you asked this question...I was asking the same thing on another thread :-} I've only been banded about 3 weeks and I have no restriction on intake. My doctor said I had no restriction but when I first got home I was not hungry at all. The hunger isn't the issue, its the consumption. My hunger is still down but I don't know when to stop eating and I don't know if I am eating too much. Glad you posted this. Its been very helpful to know I am not alone. Thank you! -
Good for you! Take it easy and stick to his diet. It is really important to heal right now. Good luck.

Glad you are feeling better Sherri. Good luck with your surgery. It will be worth it in the end.

I've been (in the past) 10 lbs from goal on weight watchers and then I started yo yo dieting. Just watch those signs because it could be a sign that your body doesn't want that 10 lbs off. good luck.

Good for you. I have UHC and I had to use the out of network plan to have mine covered.

My psych test was just Q & A about my past history with dieting, etc. They just want to make sure that you are level headed about it. The only rejection he said he gave was when someone came in that was on disability and looked like she didn't need to lose too much weight and wanted to use her life savings to pay for it. He felt it was unnecessary and would put her in a financial detriment. I'm sure you will be fine. Good luck.

Did you lose weight before your first fill?
juliegeraci replied to sleepyjean's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I really think everyone is different. At first, 2 weeks ago I felt like I had total restriction. Now I am finding that I am able to consume more so the weight loss isn't happening. My first fill is July 17th. I think everyone is different although I must add I am a bit jealous of those who lose without a fill :-} -
How long will soreness lat at port site?
juliegeraci replied to Buckeye62's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded on the 6th of June and my port site isn't sore anymore. I think it takes 2 - 3 weeks. HOpe this helps. -
I am 14 days post op and I wanted to hear some stories about how it was banded without your first fill. I am finding that I am not really hungry but when I do eat mushies I see myself overeating. I'm sure this is natural without restriction. Can you give me some advice as to how not to overeat before my first fill on July 17th. I can't wait to feel that restricted feeling like I did when I got my band and I was swollen.:hungry:

Has anyone had the acid reflux and/or golfball feeling? I am 10 days post op and have had it since the beginning. I am still on liquids. Did you have to get some medication from the doctor? I told him about it yesterday and I have a swallow test on Monday but he didn't say anything about how to help me. Please advise.

I took some pepcid ac last night and today I purchased some zantac along with the aloe vera juice. I feel MUCH better today and when I had my liquid protein shake this a.m. I slowed down and I didn't have nearly as much reflux. Thanks everyone for your response.:clap2:

I was banded June 6th and I'm down 11 lbs. I did have more restriction but I think a lot of this is in my head. I slowed down today and only consumed a little food this a.m. So now I am trying to listen to my body to see if this is hunger, habit, over eating, etc. I think having a fill really helps as well. Mine is scheduled for July 17th Good luck.

I had the tightness in my chest like a golfball feeling and that was acid reflux. I am 14 days post op now and its gone. I used zantac and within 2 days it was better. I did the same thing you did and my pouch is fine. You should be fine too. Just stay on the program. I'm on mushies now and my restriction is gone from when I first had surgery. I go for my first fill on July 17th. Good luck.
