I vote with Jack. Sum this up as an experience. I have had both positive and negative comments, mostly positive. Just know that your mom probably cares but she doesn't know what to truly think. LIke most they just see our current patterns, what diets we have failed on, etc. etc. It will all work out. In the meantime, just try and stay focused and negative. Show your mom the after care diet if you are concerned that she "knows it all". Other than that, I would try and limit talking too much about it. The lapband is a tool and its not an easy road. You have all the time in the world to be successful and this too shall pass. Good luck and stay positive.

What is the real deal here. I was told we couldn't have carbonation. I don't miss it. But today the Admin in my surgeons office said it was okay as long as it didn't bother me. Frankly, I thought it hurts the new pouch. What is the truth? Thank you.:clap2:

Missie, how are you feeling? I was worried about you today and I wanted to check in with you.

I went by my surgeons office today and I'm up 5 lbs. They explained to me the band isn't working because I need a fill. I wish I knew more about this post op so I wouldn't bitch so much. I have to wait until July 17th for my fill. I also scheduled a 2nd which I can cancel if I don't need 2 wks after that. Wish me luck and thanks for the support. 7 lbs down is better than gaining I guess.

I was banded on June 6th. At my post op appointment I was down 12 lbs. Its been a roller coaster to say the least. I was doing okay and then when I hit regular food it was like the weight wanted to sneak back on. I don't get a fill until July 17th so I am afraid of gaining back all that I have lost. I am going to liquids again today to see if I can jumpstart the weight loss again. My husband is very supportive and is going to start going to the gym with me. I really hope and pray the lapband was the right decision for me. Without a fill and without seeing the scale moved it has been depressing to say the least. Can you give me some ideas on how you beat this "real food" thing before your first fill? How did you stay motiviated when you feel like you are on an island by yourself. Please help.

Hello. My BMI is 40 and I went for it. During the consult the doctor told me all about the band, showed me the band, showed me pics of the surgery, talked about foods, restriction, it being a tool, etc. He was very helpful in me determining whether or not it was for me. Have a good time and enjoy all that you are learning. The work will come later.

I'm not from Cincinnati but welcome to the board. I live in Northern CA and was banded on June 6th. Good luck with all your insurance approvals.

~*~Have you ever lied about your weight?~*~
juliegeraci replied to moon goddess's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dear Moon Goddess, Up until now I have never spoken about my weight. Just how much I lose. Now I am open that I started at 320, was 281 preop and now am 269. I talk openly about it. It was just time for ME to come clean about how big I had actually gotten. I am not embarrassed as it is my story. I don't tell everyone, but those that I do trust. BTW, my drivers license is still a lie....tee hee..... -
Thanks Emily. I know everyone is different. Right now I am just trying to be my best friend and to keep my motivation up. I know this is a journey and not a destination.

Girl, we are on the same boat. I was banded on June 6th and was down about 12 lbs post op. For the last 2 weeks I have been bouncing around like a ping pong ball. Today I busted my exercise to try and start losing again. I am not sure what my body is doing but it is NOT making me happy. Hang in there. My first fill is July 17th so time will tell.

3 weeks out you are probably not eating very much. I would consult your doctor on how many calories you can intake. Make sure you are getting enough. As far as the caffeine goes, I am drinking 1 cup of coffee in the a.m. Ask them if you can have some tea or coffee. That may help you get off the sodas. Good luck.

I had that happen to me last Summer. It was totally embarrassing. Sounds like you handled it well. Disneyland is the only place I can visit as their ride accomodate me.

I'm 38 years old, married with 2 boys. I was banded June 6th. I get my first fill on July 17th. So far I am down around 12 lbs. Just getting use to stopping when I am not hungry anymore. That is the biggest challenge. Nice to meet everyone.

Try this for an exercise: Tilt your head up towards the ceiling. No using your chin muscle, open and close your mouth. I saw this on a face exercise tape one time. I think it helps to strengthen that muscle. I do it and I have no double chin after losing 52 lbs. Good luck.

Thanks Angie. I will not give up. I know I'm a newbie and have a lot to learn, 1 of which is to stop when I am no longer hungry. Thanks again.

Thanks Angie. I went back on liquids today to see if I can get another jump start. I also went for a nice walk this a.m. so I am hoping that if I can continue to do that it will jump start everything. Thanks for the support. I know I am eager. This weight didn't come on over night. smile.

You will be okay. The preop and post op diets are really important. Once you return to real food you will be able to eat pretty much what you desire just in smaller portions. You will be fine. Hang in there.

At my support group they called this "how skinny people feel". Its the phase that you don't feel hunger, you forget to eat, etc. I would be happy as a clam to have this feeling. I'm not hungry, but because I am use to eating I eat. So I am defeating the band right now. Sounds like you have a perfect handle on it. Good job.

I would definitely make sure you aren't animic or something along those lines. Its difficult and our bodies have problems when we drop in calories. I am a slow loser and totally understand where you are coming from. My weight loss has stopped and I don't have a fill scheduled until July 17th. HOpe you feel better soon. Don't lose the faith.

Hi Dee, yes it was the right decision for me. I am finding that bad habits are a major contributing factor as to why I'm having difficulty. I am newly banded as well but have only lost 12 lbs. If you can go into this knowing that it is a tool and you will have to put work into it as well you will be okay. My weight loss is slow so far. Good luck.

How Long Before your Bad Habit were broken w/Lapband
juliegeraci posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just trying to find out how long it took for you to get your s* together after surgery. With no restriction I am finding that its been a little difficult for me to gauge when I'm not hunger or full. So the old tapes are starting to play around how, what, when to eat. Can you give me some advice as to how you conquered this. Also, do you not eat when you aren't hunger. I am finding that with no hunger I get a little dizzy and I don't know when to eat. :hungry: -
Donna, you are doing great. The exercise is just about ruining my lapband experience. I just don't seem to be motivated. I go to the gym and I only do 10 minutes of cardio. I am going to try going to the beginning (all level) classes starting Wednesdsay. My first is Pilates. I need to make a goal poster. Right now I can't see beyond 269 lbs. Its hard but I need some serious visuals. Now!

Dr. Placed Band In The Wrong Place
juliegeraci replied to mwillis's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow, I hope this all works out for you. Sounds like a nightmare but you have your head on straight. Keep the faith. -
I had reflux really bad due to swelling the first few weeks. I tried Pepcid AC one night and Zantac the next. It went away really quickly. Don't be afraid to take that. Aloe Vera juice from Walmart is suppose to help as well. Good luck.

Good for you. You are doing great!
