If you are having trouble with restriction it could be that you need another fill. My doctor waits 2 weeks before he will fill again. Don't be shy. Call your doctor and find out. Good luck.

My story starts about 2 years ago when my doctor suggested gastric bypass. I put it on the back burner for quite some time thinking I could do this on my own through diet and exercise. After joining Weight Watchers for the 50th time I decided enough was enough. After research and finding out more I knew this path was the right one for me. Good luck with your decision. I am happy I made mine.

I Posted This on the Food Thread & No One Responded...
juliegeraci replied to clovermeg's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You should be okay. The only reason why they say not to drink is because of the caloric intake. Make sure, if you have beer, you let it sit out in a cup for a little while so the fizz goes down. Otherwise you should be fine. -
Lactose-Free Protein Drink suggestions
juliegeraci replied to jgandg's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
GNC has a great soy based protein shake . It has 25 grams of protein. There are a lot out there you shouldn't have any trouble finding one. -
Thank you all for your support - I love these forums

I love these forums. I was banded on June 6th and its been a roller coaster ride. I am now in the right mental space and fortunately I have rebounded from a gain. I am working out on a regular basis and it feels good. I would just like to give my thanks to all of you for all your coorespondence. It means a lot to me. Keep up the good work. My first fill is Monday.:clap2: -
I met a girl that was in high school and 15 years old at my lap band support group. Her father is a doctor and he recommended she go through with the surgery. Like your daughter she had a lot of support around her. She will do fine. I WISH I had this years ago. I wouldn't have had to diet for all those years. Best of luck!

Vicki, you will do fine. Just remember why you had the surgery in the first place. Eat when you are hungry and use the band for your restriction. You can do this. Just remember we are all here for you. It is difficult, that I know, but you must have faith. Good luck.

Hi Rugersmom, Welcome to bandland. You will do great. Make sure you stay on the doctor's postop diet. It is really important to use this time to heal. I found out the hard way by eating a piece of chicken (bad choice) 2 weeks post op. Make sure you follow. Good luck!

I had UHC and went out of network. They don't cover as much but I am happy to have had the surgery. Best of luck.

Hola, If you are down from 245 to 200 right after surgery that is very fast weight loss. Was that with your preop diet?

What is or was your "Last Meal"
juliegeraci replied to GotGlock21's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My big meal before the big day was sushi. I love sushi and I knew I would only be able to eat a little of it after being banded. As it turns out it is hard for me to get down so I try and avoid it now. Bummer. -
Count me in.

I'm currently not in therapy while being banded, but I am starting to read books. I pick up "why women hate their bodies" yesterday and a book about overcoming food addiction using the 12 steps. Both seems to be good, but the 2nd one is a better read. I am working on my head simulateoulsy through positive imagery and talk. That is the best way. You can do it Mary. Its a journey not a destination. We all fight the food gremlins. You are no different. I wish you the best of luck. Always be good to yourself, there are enough people in the world that can beat us up. Don't beat yourself up. Food will always be there for you. Good luck.

When I was really tight and swollen after surgery it really helped me to sip warm liquids. For some reason it was really soothing. Maybe a warm cup of team might help. Good luck. My first fill is MOnday so I am eager to see how I do.

I hit full about 3/4 into my meal. I don't have a fill yet so I don't have restriction. For example, yesterday I ate a 1/2 of sandwich with 1/2 of chicken salad. Towards the end, I could feel it on my diaphram. Without a fill it can be tricky. You may hiccup or burp and that is a tell tale sign to stop eating. You will have to eat slower as well so that may help you feel full. This is great. Have a good time with the band. It works.

I didn't do too much to prepare for the surgery other than read the literature and attend the support group. Its an exciting time. As far as Las Vegas....girl...have fun. You will not be able to eat like that again so enjoy it. The only thing I had before surgery was 24 hours on liquids, nothing more. Hope you enjoy the next month. Its an exciting time. Don't worry about a thing. My surgery was a breeze. Good luck!

Hi Sherri, congrats on your new band. Just an FYI. My hunger didn't come back for a couple of weeks. Take advantage of that. You don't have restriction until you get a fill so when you go to solids you may find that you can eat more than you think. With that being said, you also may find that you do not feel hungry for the first 6 months. Its totally up to your body. Make sure you stay on the doctor recommended diet. I went off on week 2 and got in trouble by my surgeon (bite of chicken). Be good to yourself. Now is the time to heal. Welcome to bandland! Its so exciting and you'll do great.

NJ Chick, there is a gym I go to where I live that have a class for arthritic patients. You may want to see if there are any activities at your local YMCA or gym. This is a 55+ class but all ages are welcome. Good luck.

Which side is your port?
juliegeraci replied to CanadaSunshine's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Mine is on my left side supposedly. I can't feel it though. I should know more Monday during my fill. -
Well ladies and gents, I'm back on the losing side again. I had lost 12 lbs post op and promptly put on 5. I am about even right now . My first fill is Monday. I'm just trying to stop eating when I'm no longer hunger. Its is difficult to gauge so I am hoping a fill will help me. Good luck to all. I love these threads.

Hedwig, sometimes it will take a few fills to hit that spot . I've heard of 1-2 for some. My doctor charges $200 a fill with $50 deposit once he bills insurance. Good luck. My first fill is Monday. Keep the faith.

Here is a thread you might want to look at regarding prego: You can ask question there. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=20089

Dr. prescribed diet before surgery..?
juliegeraci replied to msbrookins's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just had to do 1 day of liquids prior to surgery. Easy. -
I would think that if she is consuming enough food and not feeling bad she is okay. There is another thread out there right now with the same circumstances. Her doctor wants her to eat 1800 calories a day. He also suggested an unfill. Just an FYI.

$25 a session is very reasonable. I use one strictly to continue to be movitated and to get the best results possible. Good luck.
