Dr. Phil tomorrow with Sharon Osborne
juliegeraci replied to Chris S. - L.I.'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I must be mistaken. I just saw the commericial and it definitely said gastric banding. -
I had no preop diet at all. I ate up until midnight the day of surgery as well.

All my efforts...down the tubes today...

Rachel, don't give up hope. She if they can take him out of network with explanation of surgery. Mine did. I have United Health. Otherwise I would go to a new surgeon who they provide and they should take your nutritional consult and your psych eval. Don't fret, you can work this out. -
Support meeting left me with more ????s

Wendy, I have to be honest with you. In my case (and I'm not saying most) it has been a very slow process to lose weight. I am down 32 lbs in 6 months at the normal rate of 1 lb per week. The lapband is not a quick fix. For some of us it takes a lot more work then a bypass would. You may find that you have better results because of your metabolism but for mine I haven't. Just know that the lapband is a tool, not a fix for obesity. You have to eat well, exercise and make sure you are taking in enough protein. If you do that you will lose. But you do have to be patient. Good luck with your decision. -
I have a friend named Dana who is in my Tuesday morning bible study. She is doing a drug intervention on her husband this weekend. He'll have to go into rehab down in Southern CA for 90 days. I pray that she will get the loan approved and that her husband will be willing and able to go. Thank you.

I had good restriction until the 4 week mark at which point I went in for my first fill. Some people feel restriction right away and it sticks to them. Others don't. You'll have to wait and see what happens. Good luck.

Hi Margo, I have no idea how much my doctor cost was. I want to say just under 10k but I could be wrong. The expensive part was my overnight stay in the hospital which my insurance paid for. Now he does them outpatient. Good luck with your lapband discovery. I am really happy that I am banded. It is so freeing to be able to lose weight. Good luck. -
That is awesome Mariecarmon! I like your dedication. Exercise is not fun no matter what others may think. I joined Curves and I'm enjoying that. My scale is moving down slowly at 1 lb per week. Keep up the good work.

Welcome to lapband forum. You will gain a wealth of knowlege on this site. Congrats on your impending surgery. -
Start over. Also, if you can get 2 slices of pizza down with no problem you may want to consider another fill. You shouldn't be able to eat that much at once. Sad but true. Especially bread. Good luck.

Don't know where to start?
juliegeraci replied to ARayOfHope616's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It took me about 8 weeks to be approved and get through all the preop stuff. I think it is great that you have decided to do this. This is the first time in my life I have lost weight without dieting. All you do is eat less so it is really easy. I'm a slow loser as I have lost 32 lbs in 6 months. So please keep in mind that for some of us it is a slower process at 1-2 lbs a week. -
Hi Havin, I am 5'9 and my highest weight was 320. I am now down to 250. I lost 40 lbs myself before surgery. My BMI was quite high so I qualifed. It sounds like you would. This is a very personal decision for each of us but hopefully with the right information you will get what you need to make the decision. Good luck. I'm glad I did it.

I am having another fill on Monday but I'm really concerned that somethingn may be wrong. I have had good restriction up until 2 days ago. Now I am able to eat up to 2 cups of food. Could it be that some of my fill has dissolved? I don't feel like I am stuffing myself. It just feels like no restriction. How dangerous is it to overeat IF you can't feel the restriction. Could I stretch my pouch? Please advise.

Need a fill or pouch stuffing?

I am happy to report I had a good doctors exam today. I am down 7 lbs since my last fill on 10/23. He took out all 2.7cc from the band and put in 3cc. He said that sometimes when you lose weight you actually lose weight inside the organs so that is why I lost my fill and needed it tighter. We are going to monitor things to make sure there is nothing wrong but I definitely felt restriction after receiving 3ccs today. Thank you. -
As far as your diet goes I would have the protein shake for breakfast and avoid the carbs. I would then, (if you can) stop the lean cuisines because of the sodium. It would be better if you could eat 2-3 oz. of a protein alone. At night, I would cut the protein down. 4-5 oz is a lot for a bandster. You may want to go get another fill if you feel you need to eat a lot to become full. I know it is hard where you are but from the sounds of it your head is in the right place.

I was down another 2 lbs, 7 since my last fill the end of October. I am now down 32 lbs in 6 months. I am losing 1 lb a week total. Slow but I really hope I can stick to this long term. I know it will take some time to get to goal but it should be worth it.

Researching lap band...Doc. not supportive
juliegeraci replied to maryrose's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Mary, I am going to be blunt here. I would tell her to go fly a kite. It is your health and when it comes down to it you are mobidly obese. She can rant and rave to you all she wants about you being healthy enough to lose it on your own but obesity is a disease. I have never lost 30 lbs with such ease in my life. I would go back for more information and politely switch doctors or just tell her you had it done. She should support your decision. Good luck. -
Mastino, I understand where you are coming from. I actually cried right before surgery as I think I was releasing my emotional tie to food. I have done well since then. Everything has changed for me after the band. I use to eat a lot of junk, fast food and big quantities. I now graze throughout the day usually with protein foods. Its been tough getting all the protein down. I think you will be okay after you get some restriction. It may take a fill or 2 to reach a comfortable level. It is a wonderful feeling being in control now. Good luck.

Alicia, congratulations!
-
Terrilen, it really sounds like you are on the right track. Have you thought about revisiting your surgeon and combined with your therapist be completely honest with him regarding your purging. If you binge maybe you need a good fill so you cannot. Just a thought.
-
I have 3cc in my 10cc band. I was wondering how much the rest or you have in your bands for good restriction.
-
Mine is 1 day liquids, 1 day mushies, then solids. I would go with what your current doctor recommends. You will be able to tell if its too soon for solids. You can then move back to mushies or liquids. Good luck.
