Hi Susan, each doctor is different. At my first appointment he introduced me to the lapband. He actually showed me what it looked like and how the surgery worked. We discussed my diet failure, my BMI and everything. I hope you have as good of luck with your surgeon as I did. Good luck.

Angela, congrats on the NSV. That is wonderful. Keep up the good work.

I wouldn't worry too much about the rapid weight loss. If you are getting in your protein that is all that matters. On the flip side, you may find that you will need plastic surgery. I've heard on these forums that when you lose faster the skins seems to weap more. Good luck on your continued success.

Yogurt, mashed potatoes, jello, creamy soups, soups with noodles or rice (no chicken). I think you have it down.

Should I be nervous?
juliegeraci replied to edieparks's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Edie, I went through food withdrawal big time. I mourned the loss of my friend as surgery approached. It looks like your weight loss has been really steady. I would just take a good look in the mirror and get back on the horse. You can do this. Happy Holidays. -
need a friend that "gets" it

Welcome to the lapband forum. I understand where you are coming from as far as the "failing" goes. I thought the same thing initially. Like, how did I get here? That is okay. Some of us need extra help. Good luck with your impending surgery. Keep us posted on your progress. -
This looks like a good place to settle in...

Hi Amy, congrats on your lapband. Its a wonderful tool. You have the right attitude. I hear you about riding the ponies. I use to have a horse and I felt sorry for him everytime my 300 lb body was on top of him. That is a great goal. Good luck. -

Hi Priscilla, welcome to the lapband forum. You will find great insight here. Hope your surgery goes well. You will do great with your attitude. Good luck. -
I would definitely do the lapband again. I have never lost 34 lbs without feeling hungry my entire life. Its been great. As far as the fills go, you can ask your doctor for a local at the fill - port site. The needle is long and it goes in with ease. I would definitely be numb first though. Some doctors don't use a local so it hurts more. Good luck.

I've been banded for 6 months now and have only lost 30 lbs. I have had trouble lately with restriction. It happened all of a sudden. I can now eat well pass the cup mark now. Last night I ate 2/3 of a huge filet mignon and a bake potatoe. Today I was able to eat a 6" subway sandwich bread and all. I've had 3 fills and I had great restriction then bam. Could I have a slip or is this normal to sometimes lose a fill?

Kynekke, I would definitely talk to your mom about it. I know she doesn't want to change but I would let her know that you need to continue to eat healthy. If that doesn't work always be prepared with healthy food choices. Go to the store while you are staying with her and stock up on good alternative foods. Good luck. I know how hard that is.

How do I survive the holiday foods
juliegeraci replied to blj5362's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums

Hi there Bandsters!!
juliegeraci replied to 1Life2Live's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Tammy, welcome to bandland. Its really exciting isn't it. My high weight was 320 at 5'9" tall. I was able to lose 40 lbs in 1.5 years by myself then I looked into the lapband at 282. I've lost 34 lbs so far since June. Its been a bit slower for me at 1 lb a week but its worth it. Its hard to believe I'm almost 1/2 way to my goal. I want to get to 200 lbs. Sounds like you and I have both been battling our weight for sometime. Congrats on taking control of your health and looking into the lapband. Good luck. -
Pam, wow you have lost a ton since June. I've lost 32 lbs so its been a struggle for me. You sound like you are doing great. Keep up the good work. Happy Holidays.

That is great news. Its it great to have control. As far as the food goes and leftovers I would order what I want on the menu and either chuck it or take it home. Good luck.

Congrats on your new found size Barbara. Good job!

Am I hungry or full????
juliegeraci replied to mypov's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The sensation u are feeling is the restriction. Since you are only 1 day post op you are swelling so that is why you are hungry but don't want to seem to eat. You will do fine. Just stay on your liquids are prescribed. Good luck. -

First Fill Advice: No restriction
juliegeraci replied to irwinlaura's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have a 10cc band. It took 3 fills for me to feel restriction. You should feel better after your 2nd fill. Good luck. -
Too Tight, now I can eat a cow. Advice, please.
juliegeraci replied to ChicagoCoco's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sometimes the slightest fill can get you the that sweet spot. I would try .1 cc and see where it gets you. Good luck. -
I would go in for a slight unfill. It can do no harm. good luck.

Lauren, you will do great. Don't let your family get you down. Surround yourself with lapbanders. Does your doctor have a support group? Good luck to you. Can't wait to hear about your progress. Its been a long road for you. Congrats.
