Be sure your Surgeon is QUALIFIED!
juliegeraci replied to The New Me's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sue, sorry to hear you went through all of that. I hope you recover well. I have a great qualified surgeon. He has done hundreds of lapbands and I just love him. Good luck. -
New here... young male and my story.
juliegeraci replied to Exude's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Jason, congratualtions on making your decision. It will be life changing. We have a lot in common with the athletics. It was the peak performance time of my life. Having an active exercise routine will be very important. The band is a great tool. I truly hope you can lose your weight and keep it off this time. It will be life changing. Congrats on your nursing degree and job. Best of luck to you with your girlfriend. It is wonderful that she is supportive. Keep us updated. -
First Fill Advice: No restriction
juliegeraci replied to irwinlaura's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Betsy, it sound like you definitely need another fill. You should have good restriction most of the day. You will be able to eat breakfast after another fil but it may consist of a simple protein shake. Typical for you that the band opens up later in the day. Best of luck. -
A Lapbanster's Christmas Confessions
juliegeraci replied to flabuless's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I put on 3 lbs. Now I am trying to get it back off! -
Congrats, that is my New Years resolution.

Cherg, I'm not at the same place as you but I understand where you are coming from. On one hand you want the restriction to continue to lose and on the other hand you want to eat higher volume of foods. This is a tough one. How much a week are you losing? If you are losing more than 2 lbs I would go in for a slight unfill. You will then probably lose 1 lb a week. The danger is there if you continue to vomit. I see where your coworkers are concerned. I would be too. The band is not designed for us to use it this way. I would really try and just portion out your food better and get into therapy. It will be all worth it in the end. Best of luck to you!

That is excellent news. I know I nearly fell over when I hit the 20 mark on the bottom. I want to get down 1 more size that is for sure. Congrats. Keep up the good work.

That is really good. Restriction is key. Keep me posted.

Hedwig, we are in the same boat girl. I am down exactly the same as you, 34 lbs since June. My doctor has me at 3cc in a 10cc band. I don't know what my problem is. I have days that I can barely eat. Today I took 2 bites of sushi and had to run to the bathroom. My band is really fickle. I am waiting until after the Holdays to decide on more restriction. Its discouraging, I know. Some days I exercise, some days I don't. My alcohol consumption is still there which I know is a detriment. From the sounds of it, I think you need another fill. The worse thing that can happen is you are overfilled and you would have to have some taken out. You should be able to consume a lot of food. Write me back and lets stay in touch. Maybe we should try a written diet together for a week to see how we do. Keep in touch.

mental evaluation
juliegeraci replied to nicknack34461's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would ask your surgeon. They have a list of psycho doctors that help them. Good luck. -
Hi There, my insurance and all the preop work took about 6 weeks or so. I took only 5 days off and was back to work. I do have a desk job though so I don't lift or stand all day. I guess it depends on what you do for a living. Enjoy your preband. The work starts afterwards! Good luck.

GNC carries an excellent high protein shake. I think it has about 25 grams of protein per serving when served with skim milk (1 cup). BTW, if you doctor said you don't have to do it, I wouldn't. Enjoy the time you have while eating regular food. The liver wont matter that much when he is in there. Good luck.

Yogurt is a good thing to take to work. Also, you can take a potato and microwave it. Creamy soups are good too if you don't mind opening a can and microwaving them. I take my magic bullet blender. Its really small and its very convenient for things like work. Good luck.

getting banded at 7am
juliegeraci replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Denise, congratulations on your impending surgery tomorrow. It is really exciting. Just rest and take care of yourself. You'll be up and about in no time. Keep on those liquids! -
I cannot believe I fit in that.
juliegeraci replied to ladysplenda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congrats on your NSV. YOu are doing great! -
Sorry to hear that. I have UNited Healthcare and they covered 100%. I wonder if I have a different plan than you. Good luck. Its worth it.

New and Just Banded
juliegeraci replied to forgivenbygod2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You shouldn't be too concerned, you are still healing. You are swollen. If you are on mushies then try and stay on them. If you feel you get stuck too much taper back to liquids for a couple days. It will get a lot easier, trust me. Good luck. -
Hi Jeanette, I think it is great you are considering the lapband. I don't regret it for one minute. Its been a long road for me. I am down 70 lbs but 34 are from lapband surgery in June. I'm considered a slow loser at 1 lb per week. Everyone is different. Best of luck to you.
-
Sometimes I am able to get down 1 or 2 slices of pizza. I can't do burgers much. I think I can eat 1/2 of a small hamburger from McDonalds. I try to avoid these foods but sometimes it is nice.
-
Good luck with your surgery. I take the GNC high protein shakes. They have 25 grams of protein I believe when taken with skim milk. Enjoy your time off and recovery. It goes really fast.
-
Hi Teresa, you are right it is one day at a time. Thank you for reminding me of that. I was banded in June and I'm down 34 lbs. I am considered a regular/slow loser at 1 lb per week. I creep up and down most weeks. Good luck with healing. It is great you have already lost 12 lbs. Good job.

Researching in Florida
juliegeraci replied to honduras's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, I have United Healthcare and they covered 100% of the surgery. They however are not covering my fills. I've spent $100 out of pocket for that. I don't regret getting the lapband at all. I am a slow loser at 1 lb per week. The only regret I do have is that I haven't given it 100% as far as exercise and water intake goes. You have to really want to lose the weight. The band is only a tool. Good luck with your surgery. -
Hi Telly, I have the lower profile port right now so hopefully that will help. Thanks for the info.
