Have you checked with your surgeon's office yet. They usually have some type of financing. Good luck.

You sound like you have a great head on your shoulders. Congrats on making the life changing decisions. I love my band. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Best of luck.

Struggling with this decision
juliegeraci replied to Sophie248's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Maryrose, from my experience I think OA is a better program. They work on the root of the problem. Weight Watchers is more about quantity of food but not necessarily about the behavior . Good luck to you regarding which program you choose. It will all help regardless. -
Only 1 more day 'til banding!!!
juliegeraci replied to ginatae55's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Bailey, congrats on making the decision for yourself. Sometimes that is what it comes down to. We can't rely on others. I had a good friend that knew I was struggling for some time. I had already lost 40 lbs on my own. He basically told me I was taking the easy way out. It is not like that at all. YOu have to work with the band. It is your friend or your enemy. When they say it is a tool they mean it. You have to work at it. You will love it though. Best of luck to you. -
soon2bthin, that is great news. I know how difficult it is when your family practioner will not support you. There are plenty of doctors out there that will. Congrats and making the decision to improve your health. Good luck.

Be sure your Surgeon is QUALIFIED!
juliegeraci replied to The New Me's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sue, don't be discouraged if you gain a few lbs prior to your fill. I was up 6 lbs when I moved from mushy to solid. You will lose it after your first fill. Congrats on your success to date. Keep up the good work. -
Sounds like you are doing really well. Congrats. You got protein in 3 times today so that is fabulous. Keep up the good work. Mushy stage is okay. Just keep with the soft proteins and chew chew chew.

Great job. Congrats on the kick boxing class too!

I'm freaking out- 2 surgeries 1 month (ladies)
juliegeraci replied to BrwnEydGrl82's topic in The Gals' Room
I wouldn't worry about 2 surgeries in 1 month either. I wouldn't come clean though. I would tell them that they didn't get all the cyst out and they need to reoperate. I would suspect your surgery will not lay you up too long . Best of luck to you. -
having difficulty lap band three days ago
juliegeraci replied to skinnymom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was able to go back to work 5 days post op without any problem. Have you tried the gasx strips? They seem to help me. Good luck. -
My insurance had a stat that I had to meet and it was 40 BMI. Does your insurance have that? I went straight to the surgeon. I didn't have to go to my primary. I only went to him for the pre blood work but no referral. I took 5 days off of work. The recovery was really easy. Other than that, best of luck to you.

New advice where to begin
juliegeraci replied to barb12211958's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Barb, my journey actually started 2 years ago . I weighed in at 320 lbs. Prior to my lapband surgery in June I had lost 40 lbs on my own. I was banded June 6th with Dr. McKeen here in San Jose, CA. I am happy to report that I am down another 34 lbs. My goal is to reach another 7 lbs. That will put me at 1/2 way (from 282 lapband to 241) to my goal. If you are researching surgeons just make sure they have done hundreds of lapbands. I heard of one person who used a surgeon who was new and had a really rough time. Best or luck to you. It is so exciting. Keep us posted. Congrats. -
Steri-Strip Fall off Time

I pulled mine off in about a week as well. It hurt a little bit because of the dried blood but it helped them to heal quicker. -
Struggling with this decision
juliegeraci replied to Sophie248's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sheila, glad you are going through with it. You will love your band. Sophie, best of luck to you with your decision. The band isn't a quick fix but its a great tool. Hopefully you will decide to go through with it. I don't regret it at all. Its noon and I'm satisified with a protein shake and a bowl of soup. Not like before, that is for sure. -
Possible leakage? Would love some advice on this...
juliegeraci replied to stinaNYC's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Stina, I thought that was happening to me but it wasn't the case. My doctor said that if I developed a leak there is some solution they can fill the band with that works like fixing a flat tire. I don't know much more than that as my fills have been coming out 100% when I go in. Best of luck to you. -
I Want To Be Part Of The Challenges
juliegeraci replied to sarabluebell's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Audree, you can join in on the exercise challenge over in the exercise forum. There is a posting called "exercise today" that is where you challenge yourself and record how much activity you have had. Good luck. -

How long before you were eating mushy-food?
juliegeraci replied to IlliterateJedi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on solid liquids fairly quick. I believe on week 2 I was on creamy soups, yogurts, cottage cheese. I don't think I was on clear liquid that long. Good luck. Its worth it. -
Lap Band vs Gastric Bypass
juliegeraci replied to emmasmom60's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only reason why I didn't have gastric bypass was I didn't want everything rerouted. I also wanted to still eat sweets and drink alcohol. Good luck with your decision. -
Hello from Northwest Wisconsin
juliegeraci replied to deb4339's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Deb, I didn't have my surgery in Mexico but there is a lot of information out there about it. I would post something under Lapband support specific to Mexico if you want more info. Good luck in your journey. It is well worth it. -
Kat, if you don't feel you are strong enough to say something I would simply accept and throw them away. Good luck.

I was 320 before I started the process. I lost 30 lbs on my own before June. I am now down just over 70 lbs. I was a size tight 24 and now I'm a size 20, 18 on top. I had United Healthcare and they covered the entire surgery just not the fills. I've had 4 fills. My doctor is awesome. His name is Robert McKeen here in San Jose, CA. I would change anything. I love my band.

Sounds like you need another fill. I had to have 4 fills to have better restriction. Good luck.
