Hi Samuel, I had the same thing with the hunger. It goes away a bit after you start getting fills. The stomach sensors are close to the band so when it tightens it gives you a full feeling. You should see that happen with a fill or 2. Best of luck.

Cris, best of luck to you. I really hope it turns out to not be cancerous. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sorry about the loss of your band. Just try and move forward and find another surgeon. You can do this.

Hi Star, I love my band. I've been banded for almost 8 months now. I lose about 1 lb a week. I feel really good at that rate though. Keep the faith and I say go for it. Hope you can find a surgeon close by. Good luck.

gearing up for Surgery
juliegeraci replied to Amelia40's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Amelia, the recovery is pretty easy. I took off Tues-Fri. My surgery was on Tues and I returned on Monday. It was plenty of time. -
Welcome to bandland. I hope your surgery goes smoothly for you.

Counting my calories, how many should I eat?
juliegeraci replied to HamuChan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Some bandsters go as low as 800-1k calories a day. I think the 1k-1200 range is the best for weight loss. Good luck. -
I am sorry about the loss of your job. Just remember we are here for you. Get your resume together and hit the pavement. You can do this. Good luck with your weight loss. At least you have that going for you right now. Keep the faith.

That is fantastic news. I'm newly banded 7 months and have hit the 40 lbs range. I have 40 more to go with a stretch goal of 65. I love my band. You've done great!

I'm with the stomach crunches, ab work. That should really help you.

getting pressured to do bypass over band!
juliegeraci replied to skatkat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I got the band because I didn't want to have my insides rerouted. I also wanted to be able to eat sweets and drink alcohol if I so choosed. Best of luck with your decision. Either way you will get healthier. -
Check with your surgeon. Sometimes they can do the gallbladder removal and the band at the same time. Good luck.

Yes, you should have restriction. I can't eat more than a 1/2 cup of food at a time. I can PB If I'm not careful. You definitely need to listen to your body.

During the healing stage it is okay not to lose any weight. Its time to rest. You will start to lose more after you get your first fill. I had gained 6 lbs when I went from mushies to solids. That is quite common. Just keep on your post op diet. You will be okay.

How did you determine your "goal weight"?
juliegeraci replied to edieparks's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm going to stop losing weight when I feel like its time. I want to get down to an 18. Right now I'm a 22 or a really tight 20. I plan on losing 40 more lbs. The doctor says I can actually stand to lose 65 more but I don't want to struggle at a lower weight. I'll have to wait and see. -
I would go in for another fill for sure. You may not feel restriction for 1 or 2 more fills. Mental hunger is when you think about food constantly and eat when you aren't hungry. Hunger comes in many forms from weakness to a growling stomach. I get the growling stomach.

Good luck with all of your preop stuff. You will love being banded.

Yesterday I went in for a fill. I had 3ccs in there. He only took at 2.5ccs. So he used this solution (don't know the name) that is exactly like fixing a flat tire. Has anyone else ever had that. Was your surgeon able to remove all the saline on your next visit. He put 3ccs back in. Thanks

Those who feel they have hit their sweet...
juliegeraci replied to KathyH's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Go with the calories your surgeon says to go with they know best. Mine says we can go as low as 800 calories a day. I take in 1k a day and I'm happy at that level. -
I really like my support group. We meet every 3rd Thursday. She does round robin talking to each of us. She then has us ask each other questions. There are preop patients there that ask us questions as well. I think it is moderated good.

Those who feel they have hit their sweet...
juliegeraci replied to KathyH's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Kathy, that is the beauty of hitting your sweet spot. I am a)never hungry b)fill up fast and c)don't PB if I am creful. To me those are the signs of being at the sweet spot. I am losing more rapidly too which is a good thing. My average day consists of a protein shake, a light snack and more protein at dinner. I probably consume no more than 1k calories a day. I am losing .5 lbs a day right now. Good luck. OH P.S. I have 3 ccs in a 10cc band (which holds 4.2 ccs). -
Biggest mistake you've made SINCE banding?
juliegeraci replied to mypov's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The biggest mistake I have made is alcohol consumption. I like beer and tequila alot. I would say for those who are banded that its a ton of extra empty calories and to limit alcohol to a couple drinks a week. I tend to overdue it on the weekends. -
Make sure you get enough protein, chewable vitamin, water. I would also take an iron supplement. That helped me when I felt tired. Hope you feel better soon.

struggling big time - help! (sorry, but this is long)
juliegeraci replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
First of all, you need to stop blaming yourself and get off the wagon so to speak. You can do this. Recommit yourself now..today! Go in for that fill and just suck it up as to what has happened. Don't be hard on yourself, especially about exercise. Just remember how bad you felt 70 lbs heavier. We are all banded for the same reason...to lose weight. Just remember why you were banded. Go to a support group if your doctor has one. Talk on this forum as much as you need to. Stop the cycle now. You can do this.
