Try and keep your calories under 1k per day. That seems to do the trick for me. My doctor recommends 800 calories to reach maximum goal. That is really eating like a bird though. Good luck.

How many calories a day to you consume? What types of foods do you eat and how much?

I really like GNC protein powder. I believe it has 25 grams of protein when taken with skim milk. It is good. I buy the huge bucket of it and it lasts a long time.

Regained weight, scared, need support :(
juliegeraci replied to HamuChan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Especially doing weight training you are probably gaining muscle for sure. Did you happen to take your measurements? Are you clothes loser? They say not to go by the scale which I know is hard. There are body builders that no kidding weight 175 lbs but are size 10. Its the truth. Good luck. Don't be depressed. The weight will come off, just be patient. -
I eat only when I'm hungry. Sometimes that is only 2x a day. I try and keep my calories under 1k a day.

juliegeraci replied to derbygirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I hate the son of a bitch. I can never have the ticker work. -
Feeling empowered finally!!!!!!!!
juliegeraci replied to shell04937's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Glad your weight loss has continued. That is great. Funny how the body works. Who would have thought you can lose weight uping your calories. -
how long was your hospital stay?
juliegeraci replied to Ready to Lose's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mine was an overnight visit but now my surgeon does them in outpatient. Recovery time for me was 6 days before I went back to work. -
I think that is a fabulous idea. I really miss my teenage years, especially high school. It was so darn fun renting tuxes, getting the dress, taking an hour and a half to get ready. Go to a nice dinner beforehand and rent a limo too. You will have a blast. YOu can do this!

Does Anyone Follow the Weight Watcher's Program After Banding?
juliegeraci replied to Jill Klein- Auerbach's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You couldn't pay me to go on Weight Watchers. I've tried the plan probably 6 times without luck. I got the band to get restriction. If I don't have restriction I need a fill. A fill usually does the trick to have me start losing again. I would take my 40 lb lose in 8 months over an 80 lb loss on Weight Watchers any time. I hate counting points. The core program is okay but is limiting. I got banded to eat, just smaller amounts. -
I understand why people go to Mexico now.
juliegeraci replied to anonemouse's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would go with another surgeon and have the surgery when you want to. That is my opinion. Just make sure you can find an aftercare doctor. Call the one in your area and ask them if they would take a patient who has been banded by another doctor before you make the decision for sure. -
I had evaporation. My surgeon called it weepy tubing. He filled me with a thicker solution which is like fixing a flat tire. I am going in next week to see if I still have 3ccs in my ban or not. As far as your weight loss, typical weight loss is 1-2 lbs a week. You sound exactly like me. I lose 1 lb per week. In 3 months that would be exactly 9-10 lbs like you are reporting. I am down only 40 lbs in 8 months. Good luck to you. Keep the faith.

I know a lot of doctors include fills in their price. I wish my doctor had done that. I wish I knew before my surgery my insurance wouldn't cover it.
-
I have UHC too and they covered the surgery. They didn't cover the fills however. My fills are $200 each. You have to take that into consideration just in case they don't cover. Also, try to find a provider that is in network. I had mine approved but I had to state my case because there wasn't an expert within a 30 miles radius. Good luck to you. You will love being banded and it will work.

Coffee and the band...
juliegeraci replied to trinitys_mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love coffee. I am totally addicted. I couldn't do without it. I am drinking a triple nonfat latte as I type. You can definitely have coffee with the band. Enjoy. -
2nd Fill Questions
juliegeraci replied to chattanoogabrat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there. I can only eat 1/4 to 1/2 a cup. It sounds like you may have first bite syndrom. I often PB after the first few bites. Have you tried warm liquids before you eat? If this doesn't help it sounds like you may need a slight unfill. If you are still losing weight at the lower level then that would be considered your sweet spot. Keep the faith and best of luck to you. -
45 - 50% Weight Loss w/ Band?
juliegeraci replied to MCOBandita's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't believe they did that to you. You deserve better. Find another doctor. There are plenty of good ones out there. Mine is Dr. McKeen. He does surgery in San Jose, CA and in Utah. Good luck. -
Newbie in TX, wants to do Baylor program for LapBand
juliegeraci replied to getinthin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't know this program but 2 weeks off work is a lot. I was back to work on Monday and had my surgery the Tuesday before. Good luck. -
I can't see and I can only feel my port if I lay down and search for it. Its an incision right at the waist line on my left hand side. You will love the band. I like the sound of that electronic filler. I hate getting fills and they are expensive. I have spent $1k so far. Good luck.
-
Yes, if your appetite is out of control it is time for a fill. You have done remarkably. Good luck to you.
-
You are normal. It sounds like you are ready for your first fill. Have you had one yet? If you are super hungry a fill will help. There are nerves at the top of the stomach when you are filled send full signals to your brain. It really helped me. Good luck.

Hello Everyone
juliegeraci replied to deborah_martin7's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Deborah, welcome to lapbandtalk forum. You will enjoy this site. I don't know your doctor but I'm sure you will do fine. Stock you house with chicken broth, creamy soups (no chicken inside), popsicles, yogurt, those types of foods. You will do great. Good luck. -
two week post op
juliegeraci replied to chunky monkey's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Love the chunky monkey name! I have been banded for 8 months and I'm down 40 lbs. I had trouble with fills. I'm on my 5th fill soon to be 6th. I am currently consuming under 1k calories a day and that seems to really move the weight loss. I am hooked on triple non fat lattes. They give me energy during the day plus some protein and liquid. Best of luck to you on your upcoming mushy stage. Soups were my friend. -
Soup saved my life, especially creamy ones. You can have anything that fits through a straw. There are some good yogurt drinks out there too. Good luck.

Newbie, preop diet help?
juliegeraci replied to dmmedina's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Soups saved my life. If you can have mushies I would have a minestrone or chicken noodle (don't chew the chicken). They kept me really full. Good luck.
