Weight loss leads to need for a fill?
juliegeraci replied to Angelator's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, this is true. Every time I lose about 5 lbs I need to go back in for a fill. I've lost 40 lbs and have had 5 fills. Trust me, it has to do with the fat around the stomach. Good luck. -
My doctor is roughly $15k and $200 per fill.

Question- After Post Op but Before 1st Fill
juliegeraci replied to Nella337's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! You are still in the healing stage prior to your first fill. Also, you don't have any restriction so technically the band isn't working. I gained 6 lbs when I went to solids but it came off after my fill. You will be fine. Hang in there. -
My scars healed up nicely. They are, however still visible. Good luck to you.

Banded Friday Jan 19th
juliegeraci replied to Deb-Texas's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Lynn, just to give you an example, my home scale said I weighed 237 and when I went to the doctors office I was 245, 5 lbs more than when I had my fill. I am addicted to weighing myself because I feel like its a check and balance. I try to get into my doctors office every 6-8 weeks to weigh and their happy to do it for me. Good luck. -
Hi Carrie, bert of luck with your surgery. You will love being banded.

scales are the devil. If I were you I would weigh in once a month at the doctors and leave it at that. -

In need of some success stories
juliegeraci replied to Ryanband07's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm only down 40 lbs in 8 months but I feel like that is a success. The reason why is because I don't pig out like I use to. I am able to enjoy the foods I like with limitations. It hasn't been hard to lose the 40 lbs unlike most conventional diets. It seems like the last 40 are going to be the most difficult for me. -
Yes, you can eat chili at the soft phase. Enjoy.
-
My doctor highly advised protein shakes. I use GNC Protein 95. It has 25 grams of protein in it.
-
That seems like a lot to me. I can only eat about 1/2 cup at a time. Good luck.
-
Pills no bigger than the size of M&Ms go down fine. I'm surprised you can't take your small pill. I sometimes do use a crusher for 1 of the tabs but recently its been going down fine. Just make sure if you move to liquid that the med isn't time released. You have to make sure you can do liquid.

MONTH Five - I NEED A SAMPLE MENU
juliegeraci replied to gottaluvave's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
protein shakes, tuna fish sandwish (1/4, wait 15 then the other 1/4), apples, soups, fish. I eat just about anything. Eggs don't go down very well for me though. -
I can eat everything just in smaller portions. The only food I have difficulty with is chicken and eggs. I can eat pizza, just not too much of it. I am lucky if I can get down 1 slice. I have to eat it very very slow. Good luck.
-
I can do rice fine. I can't eat very much of it though.

SuperDaddy: Back to the Starting Line(?)
juliegeraci replied to SuperDaddy!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Missy, its okay to think you haven't done as well as you could have. I would suggest stepping up and going to your surgeon to discuss. I would definitely consider a fill to jump start the weight loss again. If you start to eat healthy and have good restriction the weight will start to come off again. You can do this. -
I'm out 8 months and I have had 5 fills. Good luck.
-
Don't be fooled, it is exactly like vomitting. I do this at least 1x a week. Good luck.

Welcome back. Glad you are back on the wagon with your exercise. That is inspiring to me. Good luck. -
Lauren, sorry you are still having difficulty. I have been following your story for some time. I really hope the insurance company approves it soon for you so you can move on with your life. Best of luck to you.

I love my lapband. Its been a slower process than gastric bypass but I think I've learned more about food intake. What you are describing about your hunger and portion control is exactly why I chose the lapband. You sound like the perfect candidate. Now about erosion and slippage. Those cases while they do happen are rare. I took the chance. I wouldn't look back if I were you. The lapband is a great tool. Good luck to you on your journey.

SuperDaddy: Back to the Starting Line(?)
juliegeraci replied to SuperDaddy!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Superdaddy, thank you for the story. You are being very honest and direct with your circumstances. I really hope you can get back on board. Have you considered getting a fill? That always jump starts me again. You can do this. I think just cutting out the snacks and measuring will help you tremendously. Good luck to you. Keep us posted on your progress.
