    Myths about Lap-Band

That it only takes a few fills to get restriction. I have a fickle band and I have had 20 fills and unfills in 2 years. Yikes!

Looking for input on stomach problem

Gwenn, that is really good news. Hope it works out for you.

    Lap Band or Bypass?

The stats are 60% weight loss with lapband the first year and 85% weight loss with bypass. At year 3 they are the same at around 65-70%. Bypass patients typically gain weight back. Good luck with your decision.

    Long Time Bandsters Experiencing Problems?

Starrgirl, I wish you the best and I hope your band is saved. It wasn't all in your head.

    Well...another... Is this normal???

Typically its the opposite and you can't eat until later in the day. That being said, if you can stand the hunger I would just eat throughout the day only or drink liquid at night. If you get an unfill you will lose some of your restriction. It is up to you though.
  6. The hunger will be there until you get the right restriction. It took me 5 fills.

    5th Fill

It can take up to 2 weeks. If you can't hold down liquids then you are too tight. If you move to a mushie stage and don't PB you can stick to a softer diet. Ideally you want to be on solids but a softer diet is okay if you wish per my surgeon. Good luck to you.
  8. I have a 4cc band and currently have 3.1 in it. I think 3.15 would be better for me as I a hungry. 3.2 is too much.

    Where did my fill go?!?!

It is very common to lose a fill due to a small leak. Next time have him fill it with omnipaque (spelling). It is like fixing a flat tire. It worked for me when I had small leak and lost part of my fill.

    Eating, Eating and Eating

Callie. try and go back on your post op diet right away. You are still healing. If you are on the mushie stage try and keep your portions to 1 cup. you may also want to count your calories and only consume 800-1k, no higher than 1200. When you get your fills it will help. Good luck.

Looking for input on stomach problem

Hi Gwenn, I would post this under lapband complications. That being said, I would eat more frequently.
  12. JP - the lapband can be pretty pricey when it comes to fills, etc. If you can have it covered under insurance it is better. Aftercare, band removal, etc. etc. is very expensive. Good luck with your decision.

    5th Fill

You are too tight. I would have .2 or .3 taken out.

    So I shouldn't have....

I love my band. The only difficulty I have had is MY band is very fickle when it comes to fills. I have been tight, not tight enough, PB'd, etc. I've been banded 2 years and have probably had 18-20 fills and unfills. It can get quite costly so make sure your surgeon includes fills for at least the first year. Mine are $200 each. Some doctors charge upwards towards $500 and even $750. I do love my band but it took me forever to get proper restriction and I am still struggling with that. Good luck with your decision.

When To Go Back To Work

I took of 6 days. 1 week is enough especially if you have a desk job. Congrats on getting banded!

    Changing surgeons mid way through

I agree with you completely. Aftercare is really important and I have heard horror stories. It is best to switch surgeons. Good luck.

    Am I doomed to fail?

Your doctor is full of shit. It is quite common to need more that 6.5 in a 10 band. You need another fill my dear. Good luck.
  18. My surgeon is $15k. Start to finish it was about 8-10 weeks. That is because I had to meet with a Nutritionist, blood work, EKG, etc.

    General Questions

The surgeon or his nurse is the one that fills the band. You can't feel your band. I can feel more port if I lie down and push on it. Other than that, no discomfort.

    Loose skin after losing weight

Hi Queen of Hearts. My thigh lift was $8600 and he cut me from side to side on the upper inner thigh along the butt line. To be honest with you I don't really see a difference so I am a bit disappointed. The only other way to get one is to have the incision down the thigh which looks pretty difficult for scaring and recovery. Good luck with your PS.

    My mum has shocked me!

Suzi, thanks for the post. I know it must be difficult for you to be honest with her. Congrats on doing so.

    Truth Please!!!

With the lapband restriction is key. If your fills are not covered under your original price it can be very expensive to maintain. I have a very fickle band and have had approximately 20 fills and unfills over the course of 2 years. My insurance is just covering them at $200 each. I have had some difficulty with PBing and when I'm too tight acid reflux. I just had to have a slight unfill or .1 ccs because I couldn't hold do liquids very well. Now I am more hungry. So the lapband is not an easy fix. You have to work with the band that is for sure. Good luck with your decision.

    Loose skin after losing weight

50 lbs isnt' a lot to lose so you may be okay. I lost 105 lbs and had to have a tummy tuck.
  24. juliegeraci

    What is PB'ing?

For me its just like throwing up. You get this way by eating too fast or being too tight.
  25. I love my band and I am a success story. I have lost 70% of my excess weight in 2 years and am 15 lbs from goal. I am down 105 lbs and went from a size 24 to a size 16. You have to be patient with the band when it comes to restriction though. It does take several fills to feel it. Good luck with your surgery.
