Laura, lapband weight loss is slower than RNY. The stats are 30-50% of your excess weight with a year and 1 - 2 lbs per week. The bypass is much quicker. I love being banded. There is not doubt this was the right decision for me. I am down almost 50 lbs since June. So I am running at the 1+ lb per week stat. I am happy if I hit 52 lb my first year which is 1 lb a week. I have already lost the 50% at 10 months so I am happy. Best of luck to you with your decision. If he loves RNY so much how many lapbands has he done. YOu may want to go with a surgeon who has done more.

LLSibley, that is what we call a NSV, non scale victory! Way to go!
-
I was allowed to have anything that fit through a straw. So I moved to creamy soups right away. That really helped.
-
Me too. I love spicy food. I had jalapenos just yesterday without a problem.

Here is the list you are looking for: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/post-op-checklists-t14814.html congrats on getting banded!

Bea, if he can't get the whole 2ccs out you definitely have a small leak. He can fill you with a solution which is thicker than saline to help. Its like fixing a flat tire. I would try that. I worked for me and I've held my fill for 2 months now. Good luck.

I wrote earlier in the week I was feeling bad, wasn't sure if I needed a fill, my best friend dumped me, etc. etc. I am feeling much better. I spoke to my surgeon earlier in the week and we established that I wasn't eating enough hard protein. Since switching I have lost 3 lbs this week. I am at 49 lbs, almost 50! I feel much better these days and I wanted to thank you all for the support. Julie:clap2:

Just wondering if any of you have ever used Chantix to quit smoking. I just started on the program today. Were you able to quit within the 7 days? I think I'm on the program for 3 or 4 months.:clap2:

Cyndi, you are welcome. I hate all or nothing attitude. Onion rings wont kill you in 1 meal so have them! Enjoy some wine with them and have fun. Being banded is not suppose to be a jail. We are suppose to be able to eat all our favorite foods just in smaller portions. Good luck being banded. I eat everything I love! Including my favorite sushi with sake! -
Terri, I think it is a miracle drug. I haven't wanted to smoke all day and I just started on the drug. Interesting.
-
WASabubble butt, I don't really know how it works but it does. With my experience today I feel like I just don't want to smoke. I think it must affect the brain sensors for nicotine or something. I just felt really funny picking up a smoke today. I can't describe it other than the fact that it doesn't taste that good. It is taking me a long time to finish one and I haven't really been able to. I just started the drug today. I think it is a miracle drug,,,I swear! Let me know when you start okay. Julie

I'm new...and in need of support!!

Melissa, everything will be okay. Let the band help you. Its a great tool. Just follow your doctors orders and you will lose. Once you start getting your fills you will feel restriction which will help you with your overeating. Your hunger should go down too. There are sensors at the top of the stomach and when you are banded it makes the pouch smaller thus filling up faster. The sensors send messages to your brain that you are full and not hungry. You will do great. Congrats on getting banded soon. Julie -
Ralheit, good for you! I am glad you kept the faith. Job changes are really stressful. Congrats on your new job and not giving up hope. Keep going!
-
Cyndi, you will be okay. Think about all the positive side effects of being banded. $18k is a lot of money but your health is worth much more. I would go for it. Have you thought a out going to Mexico or Denver. There are great doctors there that do the surgery for a fraction of the cost. You just need to get a follow up doctor in your area that will do the fills. Good luck.

Appointment with Dietician Scared Me
juliegeraci replied to Dustmouse's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Cyndilou29, an onion ring and fried oysters will not kill you if you eat them once a year. You just might not be able to eat as much. I would totally ignore your dietician on this one. She is throwing you overboard to get into a binge eating or eating dysfunction. Enjoy the event and eat what you want for that one night for crying out loud! -

Go into tickerfactory.com Pick a password and join for free Go to tracking your weight loss Put in your starting weight, goal weight, etc. Follow the next button to pick out which ticker to use After you are done you will see a bbc code. copy for (img) to (img) and go into quick links above on lapband talk Go to edit signature Copy it into your signature Good job on getting banded. -
Collector, a barium swallow is an xray. You have to drink this chalk like milkshake and stand up next to the xray machine. They can see the positioning of the band. Good luck with your surgery.

WASabubble butt, glad you went to see the doctor and everything checked out. congrats.

having trouble finding someone like me
juliegeraci replied to becca4uf's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you have to be approved by your primary before you have surgery? I didn't have to go through that loop. I would say pay him/her a visit and tell them how serious you are about the surgery. If they don't authorize switch doctors. -
I would definitely drop your protein to 60 grams and see where that takes you.
-
I have 1 more lb to hit the 50 lb mark!
-
With protein comes calories. How many calories a day are you consuming. I stay to 1k a day and I'm steadily losing.
-
Mal, everything will be okay. All you have to do is follow what your surgeon recommends on the food, preop diet, post op diet, etc. etc. I love being banded and you will too. Good luck with your journey.
