Aimee, following the days after surgery you are generally sore at the port site. You have to stay on liquids, then mushies then solids for about 4-5 weeks leading up to your first fill. You can get a fill typically at week 6. In the beginning, you do not have any hunger (typically). Sometimes the hunger will return with avengence after a few weeks. At that point you get anxious for a fill. The fills really help with hunger. Julie

Baby Cereal Liquid or Mushie?
juliegeraci replied to gettin skinny's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
if it is really runny and can go through a straw it is full liquid. So is creamy soup. Keep up the good work on the post op diet. Julie -
Marie, good for you. It just sounded like you were too tight. Hope you feel better. Julie

Hi Junbies, hard to believe we are coming up on a year. I am doing well. Better this week. Trying to focus more on the exercise. I am down 52 lbs so far. I am considered a slow/average loser at 1 lb per week. At least it is a little more than 1 lb though. I started in a size 24 and now I'm in a 20 so I'm happy. I can't wait until I can get my butt back into a size 18. Its probably been 20 years. Thanks. Julie

Sorry about that. I would wait to see when they do it again and bug the insurance company. Also, if you have surgery scheduled sometimes they will authorize quickly. Just a suggestion. YOu can alwasy reschedule. My surgeon allowed that. Good luck. Julie

Guess who has sleep apnea?
juliegeraci replied to jdarrwest's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jodi, that is great that you found out now and not when it became to serious. Best of luck with your surgery. Julie -
I've heard that if you drink 1/2 cup every 1/2 hour you should be fine. Does your doctor allow you protein shakes? If so I would sip one of those thew first hour. That will really help. Julie

Berry, it sounds like you are doing just fine and eating the right amount of food. Good for you. When you get restriction you will notice how much less you eat. It is good that you are preparing yourself nicely now. Way to go! Julie

LapBand before Government Academy?
juliegeraci replied to pilate74's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Robert, it sounds like you would be the perfect candidate for the band because you are so active. You should be fine. The only thing you should think about is that the port site can be injured or bruised. That is the only place I would be concerned about. It is just underneath the muscle about at the waist line. Good luck in your journey. I love my band. I will be banded a year in June. Its been great. I love the restriction that comes along with the band. I eat like a bird now. Julie -
My doctors philosphy is filling slowly. Truthfully, I wish he was a bit more agressive with his fills. It took me forever to get to my sweet spot. 8 months. Julie

Hotpink, you will do great, just take it slow on the solids. You definitely need a fill so good luck. Julie
-
Don't be surprised if you don't. It typically takes a few fills to feel the big difference.

Not much bread but rice and pasta go down fine, in fact...too fine.
-
Just stick to it now. I seriously doubt a week is going to make a difference on the diet. My surgeon doesn't even ask for one. Good luck.

I agree with you. I would have come up with the money somehow.

Keep your eye on the prize, it will be worth it.

Yes, I love a good tri tip. Just make sure you cut the pieces the size of a pencil eraser and chew really well.
-
I believe you are allowed tuna salad with mayo and chili.
-
Yes, if you feel full and can't consume a ton of food and are losing you are at your sweet spot. YOu may find when you start losing weight that you need another fill. That is totally common. Congrats on bandland. Sounds like you are doing great. Welcome to a happy fill. Isn't it great not to b hungry!? Julie

Becca, what types of proteins are you eating? Make sure they are solid proteins and not proteins like cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, protein drinks. They will keep you fulller longer. I had the same issue recently and when I spoke to my surgeon he said I was filled enough. I just wasn't eating enough solid protein. Good luck.
-
Almond are my friend. Just a handful keep you full plus they have protein. Julie

Hi Roger, welcome to lapband talk forum. I have been banded for 10 months now and I'm down over 50% of my goal. Congrats on getting banded.

The procedure was pretty easy relatively speaking. I took 6 days off and had surgery on a Tuesday and was back to work on the following Monday. The only thing that was sore was the port site. I am considered a slow/average loser at 1 lb a week. I am down 52 lbs since last June. Julie

Jen, welcome to bandland. Good luck with your surgery. Julie
