How do you know a goal weight?

I'm also 5'8" but my goal is 175-180. I don't want to struggle to keep my weight at 160. I have been 162 before and I was way too thin. My goal is a size goal of 14/16. My original goal was only an 18. But now that I'm at size 20 I think I can get thinner. If you look at BMI I need to get to a minimum of 170-175ish to be in the Healthy category. Anything more is overweight. I'm 232 now and still in the obese category.

    first fill experiences

My fill was really small. I think he put in .5 or 1 in my 10 band which holds 4.2. I wasn't as hungry initially but was back for a 2nd fill pretty quickly. I have had 5 fills in 10 months.

    gaining weight

Personally, I would go sooner and discuss it with your surgeon to dispell any concerns that you have. You may be eating too many carbs and not enough protein. Julie

can you sleep on your stomach

Laura, I could sleep on my stomach and side a few weeks after surgery once the port site healed without a problem.

    New to forum

Bev, I have been banded for 10 months. For me, the surgery was pretty easy. I had a little gas afterwards and took gasx to help. I also just had a sore port area which is normal. I was back to work in 5 days. I am considered an average loser at 1 lb per week. I'm down 52 lbs in 10 months. The say that average person loses 30-50% of their excess body weight the first year. That would put me at an average weight since I have lost 50%. I plan on taking this next year to get to goal. I have ramped up the exercise. The first 50 lbs I hardly exercised at all. That is probably why I didn't lose very rapidly. Just know the lapband is a tool. I hear that Dr. Ortiz is wonderful. If My memory serves me correctly he is an author of Lapband for Life. Its a great book. You can order it from Amazon.com. Julie

    learning the ins and outs

Hi Perry, I was banded last June and I'm down 52 lbs. I am considered an average loser at 1 lb a week. Although its been slow for me I am down 2 sizes on the bottom and 3 on the top. They say that the first year you should lose 30-50% of your body weight. That would put me at a little past normal since I have about 50 left to lose. You have to work with the band, exercise and drink your water. The reason why I haven't been losing more agressively is because I didn't exercise the first 9 1/2 months or so. I just started back to Curves plus my treadmill. Just remember you can do this if you put the work into it. Julie

    Terrible Sore Throat!

Mine went away in 1 day but I used that throat spray . I'm not sure what it is named but it numbs your throat. I would go to the pharmacy and see if you can find it. Oh, I think it is Cloraseptic spray. Julie

PB Question - Just had one! Help!

PB is productive burp. It is exactly like vomitting. Sometimes chunks come out or sometimes it more like vomitting where you vomit what is in your pouch. Depends on how full you are. I don't get gas now, but I had it early on. Julie

    going crazy pre op?

Tanderson, the thing you should do is eat protein, lots of protein. You need to get in 60 grams a day when you are banded. I would also try and drink 1 protein shake a day. A lot of bandsters use protein supplements to get their protein in. In the liquid phase they will be your friend. Eat your protein first, then your vegie, then a carb. Naturally you will eat a lot, but it will give you a feel for the diet. I can only eat 1/2 cup at a time, just an FYI. Julie

    Regiratation

Great job. I feel really good today. I haven't PB'd all day either. Ate my tri tip in small bites and took my time. I think I was actually able to get 2 oz down tonight.

    Who is right??

My insurance was only BMI of 40+. I didn't have to go through anything else. I have United Healthcare.

    Damn

Frozen meals are terrible for you. There aren't a ton on the market that I would eat. I did find some seafood the other day that was really healthy. But after looking at the super market I found it difficult to buy anything frozen.

    Grazing!

Grab a cheese stick. I think they are only 80 calories and protein.

    reeces pieces mmmm

Better food choice. I can at pretzels no problem. Can't really eat too many of them though.

    Fast food question

If I eat out I try and eat a McDonalds grilled chicken caesar with the reduced fat Paul Newman's dressing. It is difficult for me to get all the chicken in. It may take me an hour to eat just the chicken. That is a great choice though. If I eat a hamburger for example I can only eat 1/4 go 1/2. I feel like its a waste of calories. Good luck. Make healthy choices. That is what is most important.

    Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Tomorrow!

Bec, congrats on getting banded. Just take the next 6 weeks before your first fill and heal. Don't worry if you gain a few lbs moving to solids. It will come off after your first fill. Good luck in your journey. Julie

    Banded on Thursday

Hiccups are totally normal, especially when you eat. Sounds like you are exactly where you should be in the healing process. Just take your time healing, follow the preop diet and heal.

I just had a fill, am I too full

I've hear that a 7 day wait is typically the best to have a fill set in. I would give it some time.

Yes, hiccups are normal. I get them all the time.
