Depressed and Obese - Is banding helpul?
juliegeraci replied to caz1970's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would go back on your meds first then get banded right afterwards. I have been on meds for a couple years now and have never felt better. Getting your medication straight is important regardless if you get banded. A healthy mind is a healthy body. Good luck. -
I am a year out next month and I am desparately trying to kick my ass exercising. That is my downfault. I know I can do this but I need to stop drinking too much alcohol for one thing! You can do this. Just recommit, get a fill and get back on the treadmill. One day at a time.
-
The next fill will help. I can't eat more than 1-2 oz of protein at a time. Typically if you can eat up to 4oz you need a fill. You may be someone who needs to decrease her calorie consumption down to 800-1k to lose consistently. You can do that with another fill. Good luck.

LeeAnn, any idea on how many calories you take in? If you eat 1200 calories and burn up enough exercising each week you should lose about 2 lbs per week. That is if you should be eating 1600 to maintain. -
I gained 6 lbs when I moved to solids. You will be okay once you get a fill or 2. I remember I took it off fairly quickly after that. Hang in there.

People Magazine - 1/2 Their Size Issues
juliegeraci replied to Superali72's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
They didn't mentioned if any of them had plastic surgery. I too was shocked that most of them didn't have a stomach. Some of them run 10 miles a day to keep that thin. I have no idea how they could have all avoided plastic surgery. -
Glad you made it through your first fill with flying colors. It is super easy isn't it!

It was typical media doing that. I actually enjoyed the articles of the woman who lost weight. I found it particularly interesting that most of them are protein deprived. I was shocked that some of them carb load their diets to extreme yet still maintain a healthy weight. I also like the fact that one in particular didn't kill herself to maintain but rather just walked 30 minutes a day. Interesting read. -
I lost 7.5 lbs my first week with a Trainer. I am sure most of it is water but I'll take it. I go work out with him again. Tomorrow I am going to get my cardio in. He wants me to do 30 minutes 3x a week. I haven't done any cardio this week yet but tomorrow I am going with my husband.

When are you getting banded. I have seen a lot of people your size be able to lose 100 lbs in a year. You will be fine at Disney World if you do that. Good luck. -
I am really happy for you that you are getting your band back. Congrats!
-
You can probably negotiate that with your doctor. My doctor had me pay roughly $2k up front to cover the anastesia and some fills.
-
Hope you feel better soon. It sounds like a good unfill will be the best thing for you.
-
Honey, relax. You need to start getting fills. You will start to lose after you start getting fills. Good luck.

If I remember correctly my doctor has me on the post op diet for about 4-6 weeks until I could get back on solids. Now that I have been banded almost a year I can eat anything, just less of it. I just ate a salmon fish taco on a flour tortilla. I could only get down about 2-3 bites and had to wait. It took me about 45-60 minutes to finish the entire thing. You will just have to slow down your eating and your portion control. Other than that, I drink wine and eat anything I want...just less of it!:hungry:

Lisah, it sounds like you may need a slight unfill. I was having the same issue especially with solids and he took out .2 ccs and I can hold down solids fine now.
-
Sounds like you have a tough time with solid protein for sure. I would move to softer proteins like the filet mignon. Yogurts, cottage cheese, tuna salad, baked potatoes. You may not stay as full as you would if you were on solid protein but it may help you with your diet.
-
Try to keep you diet to lean proteins and remove all the garbage. Fill up on protein and vegies. You will lose.
-
Lauren, I knew if you asked they would accomodate. Good for you!
-
Try taking Fibercon. You should go once a day. Lots of water.

Barbara, I was at 3ccs for about 8 weeks then all of a sudden I had complete restriction and couldn't hold down solids for a week. My doctor said that the stomach lining can thicken around the band and tighten you up. So he took out 1.5 and brought me down 1/2 way. I stayed there for 2 weeks and didn't have any restriction. I gained 4 lbs but had a food blast along the way. He then brought me to 2.8 so its less that 3 so I am very happy. I've lost 3lbs since Thursday. My goal is to lose another 50 this year. I am really motivated now. Especially after reading People magazine where they had 6 woman who had all lost 100+ lbs.

I will be banded one year on June 6th next month. Its been great for me. I am down around 50 lbs so far. My doctor is thrilled with my 1 lb per week weight loss. I had an issue with my stomach lining thickening last month that lead to to much tighten. I couldn't hold down solids for a week. He took out 1/2 my fill and that rectifined it fine. I am proud to announce that I am back on the losing streak. I am down 10 lbs this week. I will probably go back to losing my 1 lb a week very shortly. I think the 10

Thank you for this post. I am a slow loser at 1 lb per week. I feel great though. I'm glad my body is adjusting properly.

Elizabeth, I ran into the same thing. It was because I was not eating enough solid protein. I would try and make sure you eat lean meats throughout the day so you will get in your 60 grams of protein. It will keep you satisfied and full all day. Almonds help me too. -
I am 32 lbs from 200. My original goal was to just make it to 200 lbs. Now I really would like to hit 175 or 180. Can't wait to hit the 1s!
