when do you go in for your 1st fill
juliegeraci replied to blessedofelohim's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my fills at 6 weeks. During my first year I had 5 or 6 fills. You will need a fill when you are constantly hungry or can eat a lot of food. If you can eat 1/2 cup to 1 cup of food AND still lose you are okay. But if you aren't losing you need more restriction. Don't be shy about asking for a fill. It took me a long time to get restriction. I am much happier now that I have some. Good luck. -
I showered right away. Just watch the stiches and gauze that is on them.

With the band you only lose x lbs. Why?
juliegeraci replied to JodyG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The band is very gradual. I have seen people lose 100 lbs in a year but they really worked out a lot. You need to know that ahead of time. I havent worked out that much this year and have only lost 50 lbs. So it can be true that the first year you lose 30-50% of your excess weight. In my case it was 50%. If you have to lose say 125 lbs plan on it taking at least 2 years. That is my bet. Good luck. -
June Bandster?? Could This Be True
juliegeraci replied to Sweety's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Sweety, what you are experiencing is normal. I felt so anxious myself. You will be fine. -
can someone explain?
juliegeraci replied to Brenda320's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ditto, it is to shrink the liver. It makes surgery easier, however my doctor doesn't do preband liquid diets. -
That is great news. I love hearing stories like this. You will be fine if you get the right restriction level.

If you are able to eat 2 pieces of toast it may be time. I can only eat 1/2 of a piece of toast. Also, if you are able to eat more than 1/2 cup to 1 cup of food (1 cup being too much) and not losing it is time. It all depends on if you are losing or not.

I can do popcorn fine. My surgeon said it goes down like sand because of the roughness. You should be fine. Just try a little at a time.

Banded yesterday... Feeling good!!!
juliegeraci replied to NURSEDSD's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Donna, congrats on getting banded. I remember when I was banded. Isn't it great not to be hungry!? You may find in time your hunger returns so that is when you get a fill. My doctor gives fills starting at 6 weeks. Good luck to you! -

I hope your band is okay. I am glad you are back on the boards. Keep the faith. -
I was banded on a Tuesday and returned the following Monday. You can go back sooner but the most difficult part is staying on the liquid phase diet. I would think if you take a week you should be okay. Especially if you are on your feet all day. Good luck.

Lapband is great. If you have faith in your surgeon and follow the instructions you will lose. Good luck to you.

I hope your surgery went well. I felt the same way as you did. I was very scared leading up to surgery. I am really happy I was banded though. It will be worth it. Good luck today.

Start your day with a protein shake. That will give you close to 30 grams of protein. Eat lean protein throughout the rest of the day and keep your calories under 1200. You will lose at least 2 lbs per week. Good luck.

I understand how you feel. I tell just about everyone. Thankfully I haven't gotten any negative feedback. Good luck with your surgery.

Need Help Feedback Would Be Great!!!!
juliegeraci replied to beena's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have been banded for a year and I'm down around 50 lbs. The weight loss for me has been average but it feels slow. Just remember that you can lose 30-50% of your excess weight the first year. That being said, I have seen people lose 100 lbs their first year. It just depends on how much you exercise and how soon you get good restriction. It will take you some time to lose 150 lbs but the wait will be worth it. Good luck. -
Combine surgery with Gallbladder removal - Save money?
juliegeraci replied to Kahuna's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have heard about that before. You should be fine having your gall bladder out at the same time. -
2 weeks post-op and doing well
juliegeraci replied to missrhondalynn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Tuna salad seems to be a good fit. Also, cottage cheese. Don't forget protein shakes too. They are full of protein and very good for you. I have one every day for breakfast. -
Good luck to you. The surgery was a breeze. I had a sore throat from the tube they stick down there. Other than that, it was easy. Good luck.

A HUGE hello from a Virgin with lots of questions ...
juliegeraci replied to BandVirgin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What you are experiencing is normal. Your stomach is probably swollen so I wouldn't worry about it. Just sip all day long and make sure you get in enough fluids. You will be fine in a week or 2. Also, let your surgeon know how you are doing. -
Just remember your goals. Set some mini goals for yourself, say 5 or 10 lbs. Also, make sure you have enough restriction. If you are eating too much get a fill. Its as simple as that. Good luck.
-
I don't think you are unrealistic. Just know that it will take you time to get there. Make sure you work with your surgeon to get optimal restriction as soon as you can. You will be fine. It will just take you more time.

I never should have left the board for this long...
juliegeraci replied to sherilynn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sheri, keep getting fills until you get good restriction. It took me 5 fills to get there. Good luck. -
I wouldn't worry about your band stretching. You are probably okay. If you eat 1/2 to 1 cup of food and still lose you are lucky. If you aren't losing at 1/2 cup of food then you definitely need another fill. Let us know how you are.
