Hello... July 10th is my banding date!
juliegeraci replied to tnavarro5's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My doctor doesn't do a preop diet. Are you going to have to do one? Congrats on being banded. You will love it. Julie -
seriously considering lapband surgery!
juliegeraci replied to sara97a's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sara, you will love being banded. I've been banded a year and I've lost 56 lbs. It has been really easy for me. Now the work has begun to lose the remainder of my weight. My goal is 10 lbs per month. I can be at goal at Christmas! In any case, just know that the band is a tool. You still have to stay away from bad foods, drink your water and exercise. I think you will find it very motivating when you start to lose weight. I am glad your husband is so supportive. It makes a huge difference. You can expect to lose 1-2 lbs a week, but if you follow all the bandsters rules you can lose a ton your first year. It will probably take you a 2-3 years to lose everything. They say 30% of your excess weight the first year. I have seen some bandsters lose 100 l bs their first year. Exercise is key. Good luck to you. You will love being banded. Julie -
I would take your husband aside and tell him how much you are worried about him. Would he let you attend a meeting with his surgeon? He will never lose the weight on his own. That is why he was banded. Basically the band is not working right now because he doesn't have restriction. I would plead with him to get help.

Please explain difference between working and stuck (food)
juliegeraci replied to Oilburner's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When foods get "stuck" they are actually stuck between your new stomach and your old stomach. The only way to get unstuck is to either a)wait it out, b)PB or c)drink a little water to see if it will go down. For me, I usually have to PB. This gives me instant relief. Good luck. -
How many calories a day are you taking in. You should be taking low side 800, high side 1200. You should be losing at least 1 -2 lbs per week. Also, increase your physical activities. That should help. I always have a 30 gram protein shake for breakfast followed by lean protein at lunch and dinner. Good luck.

What you are experiencing is normal. You are right on track. Good luck.

I feel like I'm back in the Game!!!
juliegeraci replied to sherilynn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Sherilynn, glad you are doing well. I know what you are talking about concerning restriction. It took me a long time to get the right fill level. A year in now, I think I finally have it at 3ccs. Good luck with your weight loss. I think you will find it much easier with good restriction. Julie -
I am very happy with my lapband. I have lost 56 lbs this year. The easiest 56 lbs I have ever lost. I am 46 lbs from goal. My goal is to lose that in the next 5 months. So by Christmas I should be to goal! The benefits far out weigh the risks.

want lap band but afraid I may not qulify
juliegeraci replied to disneyfan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Disneyfan, sounds like you are doing everything right. Check with them to see what your BMI has to be. Mine was 40% so I was okay. If your BMI is too low sometimes they will take you based on other symptoms of obesity. Good luck to you. -
Those of you that drink alcohol
juliegeraci replied to PrincessChey's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can drink just about anything. I definitely go slower with the carbonation. I like Coors Light, tequilla and champage. -
My wife and I have lost over 320 lbs pic's
juliegeraci replied to Frank's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow, you both look fantastic. I think it is great when a husband and wife are banded together. Congrats! -
I would go to the seminar where you hear good things about the surgeon. There is nothing better than going to a surgeon who is recommended. Good luck.

Can water cause the pouch to stretch?
juliegeraci replied to Qvrfullmidwife's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Water typically goes right through the band. The only way I can see it stretching the pouch is if you drink with meals, especially hard protein and it sits there. But typically it goes right through. -
I would call your surgeon and have him prescribe you something for the reflux. It sounds like you might be a little too tight. If the prescription doesn't work then you may need a slight unfill.

The 3 ways I break a plateau is the following: Get a fill Exercise more and eat up to 1200 calories a day Go on liquids for a few days. I don't know of any other way. Julie

Need helpful answers from experienced bandsters
juliegeraci replied to Itz Time's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Valerie, I know what you are saying. It took me forever to get the right fill level. I went back up to 3ccs last week and weighed in yesterday at my doctot's office, down 4.5 lbs. I can't believe it. -

Aleve & Advil: DO NOT try this at home!!!!
juliegeraci replied to TerriDoodle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Baby aspirin should be fine. I find that any pill that is the size of an M&M goes down just fine. They are small enough. -

Minday, congrats. Your patience has really paid off. -
Yes, you are welcome to join us. You will be okay. Just make sure you are working with your surgeon to get the right fill level.

Aleve & Advil: DO NOT try this at home!!!!
juliegeraci replied to TerriDoodle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Terri, you actually made me laugh. I have no trouble with any types of aspirins so next time try and take them whole. -
Don't know what this pain was but has anyone had
juliegeraci replied to areellady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Deanna, how long have you been banded. Your band is in that general area. It is probably swelling and gas. You may want to share this with your surgeon. -
My doctor is putting on phentermine
juliegeraci replied to mommy2kyler's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I took the drugs probably 10 years ago. I lost weight but gained it all back. -
So if you lose 27 lbs in say 5 months you still have to wait 7 months? What if your BMI drops down too low?
